This is, to coin a phrase, a gamechanger.

I will wait Elemental 2 with some hope now!

This change is innovative, in-your-face and visceral. 2 of 5 stars.

Congratulations Kael!

I had pretty much given up on Elemental entirely. This is the probably the only change Stardock could have made that will guarantee that I’ll take another look at it.

So when does Elemental come out?

Buuhhh… I wasn’t expecting that at all. Grats Kael!

I can’t imagine how hard it’s going to be to bail all the water out of this boat – but at least there’s someone that’s capable of being creative at Stardock for the first time in the company’s history.

Yeah, I’d be even happier about this if Elemental were still unreleased.
I hope Kael can rescue this trainwreck regardless.

I’m happy for him, especially after that deal for a boxed FfH fell through just recently, but I’m also a little sad, cause it probably means no FfH3 for Civ5.

I’m happy for Kael, but at the same time I’m sad that now he wont be modding Civ 5 into something I feel like playing.

If only we could have gone back in time and had this move happen two years ago.

I’d rather he mod Elemental – he’ll have the ability to make more sweeping changes. Hopefully. If Brad stays out of his way while backing him up. Plus Elemental needs the love a lot more than Civ5 does.

Good luck Kael, there’s a helluva job ahead of you to make an engaging world out of this.

This is true. Having to be constrained by Elemental’s generic setting and concerns of broad appeal aren’t really a recipe for recreating anything like FFH. There, he was free to make a game for gamers by gamers, with as much depth as they felt like modding, with that crazy lore he had been developing for more than a decade. That would be against the grain of Elemental’s “streamlined” philosophy.

The more I think about this, on a purely selfish level, the sadder I get. I’m happy for Kael for professional reasons, but I think we’ll be losing out on something much more substantial and unique that he may have otherwise made with the freedom of a modder.

maybe he’ll be able to make a ffh type mod for Elemental? maybe even as a full blown expansion? Well Elemental is definitely back on the ‘watch’ list for me. CivV is a little ‘lite’ for my civ taste, so i’m very happy about this news, for Kael and for PC gaming.

Someone on another forum I frequent had an interesting take on this - just when will we able to play a game of elemental, as it is meant to be? With a new lead designer, things are bound to change…and now what - a years more of development??

Yeah, I wonder how much Kael will want to (and be allowed to) change Elemental’s various systems that are already being changed for the next expansion/patch. I’m happy for Kael, but it is an odd decision to bring in an entirely new Senior Producer so late (so late it is after release!) in the development process.

If they are smart, he’ll be designing the first or second expansion right now. And E2.

Well, technically speaking, Elemental’s still in Alpha, so a lead developer change isn’t out of the question.

GC3 will come next. Brad inferred that in one of his mea culpas.

I can’t see an Elemental II before 2016 or 2017.

Congratulations Kael. It is like another ray of sunshine to bring in the day. Well, that plus it is early morning right now.

It will be great to see what you can bring to Elemental. And without a doubt, I believe it will be great.

While that’s true, I’m glad he’s getting paid (hopefully very well).

Congrats Kael!

I’m glad for the guy but I wonder what he can do with such a crappy dev team/studio behind him or at least whats left of it.

It’s a shame someone like Firaxis didn’t pick him up.
