Well, the system seems more cohesive at the very least. I’m certainly curious as to what else will be coming down the pike.

All very auspicious, but I’m going to give Paxton (gah, I keep wanting to say “Fettel”) a few more months his wonders to perform. Elemental 1.5 (second expansion or so) sounds about right.

These seem like solid starter changes, but the real question will be can he turn Elemental into something fun to play rather than a bland also-ran?

One thing I notice with his stat breakdown is Essence no longer exists. I knew there wasn’t going to be a “Channeling” stat ala Age of Wonders, but the removal of Essence is interesting. They made a fairly big deal about it early on, with having to decide how you spend your Essence (more powerful Sov or more imbued heroes).

Yep I got an email about that, I read it and went MEH.
What gets me is that there is this 1000 characters limit for describing your spell. What can you describe in 1000 characters? a fireball spell perhaps. But any interesting background lore on a spell, any more intricate mechanics have to go. A wasted chance to collect some unique writings, I guess.
Unfortunately I found out about the 1000 characters only after I wrote my 7.000 character piece of art. Silly me, I guess.
Also, I think it would make sense to add a voting mechanism.

That’s still going to be a factor- Essence now has a mana upkeep, and is a boolean (sovereign, descendant, imbued, or none)
Sovereigns get to ignore INT requirements for spells.
Hopefully they get the beta out next week so we can see the changes.
I know people complained about a lack of flavor in Elemental, but a 1000 character limit should not be an obstacle. If I bring up a spell description and I see a wall o’ text, chances are that I’m not going to read it.
Of course. But the 1000 character thing ideally (in my opinion) should contain some additional info (for example the text for the tech to be researched), some implementation notes and some discussion about how the spell can be used. Any fireball type spell doesn’t need any complicated explanations of course. Anything more interesting, like a spell that may have positive OR negative effects depending on some conditions is impossible to be described properly in just 1000 characters.

I submitted a spell idea not a complete spell with flavor text. I used way less than 1000 words. I didn’t bother with details about the mechanics as those would be tweaked by the designers as the system changes anyway.
1000 characters, not 1000 words. 1000 words is more like 6000 characters.

I just updated to the beta version that was released today and I received a runtime error (and subsequent closing of the app) after opening the “Elementopedia” and clicking on the first entry.

Played through the beta. The game- while it still needs a good bit work, is getting there.
I actually had fun. Kael and Brad need to keep up the good work, they are definitely starting to head in the right direction.
So…is this good now? I seem to have a bunch of credit and discount codes to burn.
