Are you asking about the original Elemental or Elemental: Fallen Enchantress?

Either or? I though FE was just one of the many add ons that will eventually become a gold pack on release or close soon after it?
Sort of like what every stardock game has done?
Wait for FE, unless you see Elemental for fire-sale prices (under $20) at a store. The reason I say that is there will be a substantial discount for FE for owners of Elemental, and it should make FE cheaper then buying it stand-alone.
LOL at the Eye of Argon stuff- I had a friend who just found out about that a couple of weeks ago, and I just found out about through here.

One does not simply close the Elemental all-purpose thread.
Then why is this the last page?
Probably just a post to fix the elusive last page after post deletion phenomenon.
This is the first page … of the rest of the thread’s life!
This is Brad’s idea? It doesn’t make any sense to me or something.

jpinard was troubled. Someone had to do it.
There’s a new journal entry about traits, and a Design-A-Trait contest.
This looks interesting, and more like what I had hoped the unit design feature of WoM would be in the first place.
The available traits will be based on your tech. I hope there’ll be some faction specific traits or modifiers that bring some distinction to your units from the start of the game.
I love seeing consistent reinforcement that Kael’s design instincts are strong. The traits as described sound similar to the ones that characters acquire in the Total War games, but chosen by the player instead of applied automatically.
I hope they’ll take another cue from Creative Assembly in having certain traits pop up as a result of what the character actually does in-game. For instance, a character who delivers a research or gildar bonus when stationed in a city would only get an advanced form of that trait if he stays in the city for a minimum number of consecutive turns; a trait that gives a bonus to destructive spells only becomes available if the spellcaster uses a lot of destructive spells; a trait that gives a character a leadership bonus in combat only becomes available if the character wins x number of battles when the odds were even or worse. This would reinforce the role-playing aspect of the design.
Along those same lines, it might be cool if characters were occasionally assigned negative traits based on in-game actions, just like in the Total War games. An “Empathetic” character could lose morale every time a friendly unit is killed in battle; a “Glutton” would consume extra food whenever stationed in a city, etc. That idea probably wouldn’t fly, though.
I hope that the traits don’t aren’t all just +x% modifiers, which has been an historical weakness of Stardock’s games. If they are, then I hope at least the quantity and variety of unit “special abilities” are upped considerably.
I also hope that some day they will improve those godawful character portraits.

I like this change. Reminds me of the leveling system in AOM. Having to distribute points between stats is boring.
Also, maybe Enchantress deserves its own thread, being a different game and all?

Yea, I was thinking the same, but I figure this thread makes plenty of sense until Fallen Enchantress at least nears release. Right now there’s not a whole lot to discuss about FE specifically.
As for AOM-style leveling (i.e. choose traits) that’s something I’ve been asking for since early Beta… one of a chorus, of course. The stat system was boring, traits are where things get interesting both in terms of customization as well as the creatures you’re fighting against.
All in all, FE is sounding much closer to what I wanted Elemental to be originally.
Fool! This is the Elemental all-purpose thread.

When are they going to get rid of that absurd name auto-generating? It kills it for me every time.
