Sucker!

Also, there is a journal entry on the world in Fallen Enchantress.

Man, Fallen Enchantress looks to temp me away from my no buying Stardock games policiy. Damn you FE!

You’d have to be a colossal idiot to outright buy FE without waiting for all of us who are getting it free to give it the once over. And you sir are no idiot. Save your money!

I sir, live by that policy. Many of you like to buy asap. So I get to learn by watching others in the case of things like Dragon Age 2 and Elemental.

I still hate myself for buying this game. Mostly because I went to check what happened with all the updates and instead of a working game I had (pre-patch) I got a blank frozen screen when I try to start a game. I’m just gonna wait for a patch that fixes it again…I don’t want to update my graphics drivers.

From Tom’s mulligan review:

But the price of this new graphics engine – at least I’m assuming the graphics engine is the culprit – is a serious stability problem. Using different computers with different videocards, I had frequent crashes and hard locks. You do not want to play Elemental without the auto-save safety net widely deployed. This is pretty alarming in a brand new game. It would be a real shame if this was happening in a game that had been out for, say, eight months.

Which mirrors my thoughts.

I haven’t fired it up in some time, but it certainly looks like I’d be best served by waiting for 1.3 when I do. I didn’t know about people getting the hard crashes, as my versions always played just fine. It’s interesting to speculate where the issues are coming from - would a graphics engine cause all of that, or something more mundane like a memory leak?

I still really hate the 3d modeled character cards, or did they finally make those look a little better? Why can’t we just have had old school 2D artwork ala BG and the like? Dangit.

I agree. They do look terrible and out of place.

It’s kind of unrealistic to create 2D artwork for all the different variations of race, armor, weapon, etc.

Derek has posted a new dev journal that talks about champions: http://forums.elementalgame.com/409755/page/1/#2954349

Interestingly enough, champions seem like they’re now going to be a limited resource which should help to increase their importance in the game:

Champions don’t run around as they did in War of Magic, they don’t come to you, you must go to them. There are no randomly generated champions in the game, each champion is specifically designed to be unique and interesting. Most are found in the world, but some unique champions can only be earned through quests.

Also, the UI looks far more satisfying now, thankfully.

So I figured what the hey, I’ll give Elemental a shot.

Turns out you can still be a civilization destroying monstrosity with an int focused character and arcane arrows (and the +2mana pt attribute). Also, the AI really has wood for spamming cities and not defending them.

Guess it’s totally crippled by the pop requirement thing. With all my conquering I’ve got a four hundred citizen deficit so I feel their pain. Unfortunately for the AI, I’ve also got a sov who farts out death. So, uh, yeah. Lunch break over, very uninterested.

That requirement thing is going to be phased out soon- Brad admitted in a dev diary this week that it was a failure as it’s currently implemented.

Haha, first PoN and now Elemental? You must be a glutton for punishment! :)

Yeah I’ve been picking some real stinkers for lunch hour madness.

On the plus side, at home I’m dinking away at WFAS and would you believe it’s amazing?

edit: Also the devs on the WFAS forum are chatty as hell. So I’m getting pretty engaged in conversations.

So basically they are implementing the hero system from Master of Magic? Find them in world, cast summon hero/champion or get the special one (Torin).

Sounds good to me!

It amazes how much of MoM they skipped out on after touting it as a spiritual successor…

What is WFAS? Just curious. Google hasn’t helped.

With Fire and Sword, a game based off of Mount & Blade and its expansion Warband.

It is indeed pretty fun, though I haven’t tried it since the most recent patch dropped apparently improving many things.
