Only played a little today but had a good night. Within moments of reaching an RES, killed 3 wanted Eagles and an Anaconda. Shield charges and Chaff, along with targeting the power generator, really make a world of difference with Anacondas, I tells ya.

Gaa, no fair. The servers just went down for maintenance and supposedly it’ll be an hour.

So…Back Enterprise was a bit bugged tonight, it seems. First, here’s a ship that’s just flying into the wall:

Then, later this even after my second time docking there, this ship was also stuck to the wall, having lasers either shot at it or from it until it s’ploded:

Loving that F10 key. ;) Just gotta remember to use it more often.

Ah yes, servers down means a chance to check my screenshots folder!

Something odd that I can’t figure out. When the game went to gamma 1, for all my joystick buttons to be recognized I had to start leaving my Saitek X52 Pro controller device config open while playing in the background. I didn’t know if it was the game or my messed up hardware. To my disappointment when I finally got everything swapped and fixed I still have that same issue. Anyone else heard of such a thing?

Two frames that I grabbed yesterday. First the Lakon Heavy that I successfully defended from two pirates last night. Fighting against a star is challenging, and several times enemies would flee directly towards it when their hulls were down, which seemed quite intentional because it’s pretty hard to see them against the glare once they get some distance between you.

One that got away. Trying to take down Epredator’s FSD, but I couldn’t get it any lower than this, and he jumped away shortly after this. I wasn’t taking this on by myself despite his harmless rating (yeah, right); I had two Fed on the case as well.

Good idea! I browsed through my 25 or so screenshots and came up with these as my favorite so far. It takes a bit of skill to take your attention away from fighting just enough to hit the F10 key, but I am getting a little better at it :).

Nice pics guys!

I traveled 35 light years to meet up with Kelan, on the way I checked the price of a new Cobra at a station along the way, and holy heck it’s about 40K more expensive! I’m going back to the other dealer. Wait, is that right? Now I have to fly back to check, but last night I could buy the Cobra with enough change to buy an upgrade or two, now not so much!

Hmm, that is strange. Not sure on the price change.

I am now in Gilgamesh as that appears to be the place many are hanging around. I sent out some more random PMs to folks to try to get more into mumble with us. At least a few of you have full PM boxes, though, so feel free to PM me for info if I missed you or after you clear your inbox :).

Thanks, that’s fascinating. Never heard of CH Control Manager, but then, I’m new to this flight sim stuff.

Are you sure? I thought the prices were the same everywere.

I thought so too, but my friends and I were playing yesterday and it required about a 100LY trip to all meet up. We were checking outfitters along the way and it seemed to me that the cost of equipment fluctuated from system to system. I could be wrong, but I swear a laser of the exact same type/mount/class/rating was a few thousand credits different than the other outfitters I checked.

Yeah, I’ve seen prices fluctuate from system to system as well. I’m still on route to get my combat schamers sidey up to spec, and the two items I’m still missing are the two class E beam lasers, and those aren’t 37k each at every neck of the woods. In some places they are much more expensive. I’m currently at Frey, which is about 80 light years from where I was two days ago, and they seem to be generally more expensive on most equipment here.

I can’t comment on ship prices though, since I don’t even have my sidey up specced yet.

Well I could have sworn is was cheaper, because I calculated how much spare change I’d have, but there’s a lot of price consistency in the systems I’m in right now, so unless prices are similar unless you travel large distances, perhaps I imagined it.

Anyway, I am now the proud owner of a Cobra Mk III. :) What pushed it over the edge was being awarded 97K bounty for killing a wanted Anaconda! In my Sidewinder no less. Naturally I had a teensy bit of help, but it nearly didn’t happen at all. I’d just been awarded a 23K bounty for killing a wanted Cobra, plus I had another 15K in unclaimed bounties so I figured it was time to head back. After I’d selected the destination, I saw a fight in the distance. I needed one more pirate kill for a mission, so I figured what the hell I’d check it out. Could be a Sidey, easy pickings. Except it was an Anaconda (Competent) being shot at by a security Viper, as the Conda was wanted. Throwing caution to the wind, I figured I’d see what happens when my beam lasers hit the hull! It felt like poking a crocodile with a stick, it whirled on me and offloaded rather a lot of lasers in my general direction. Shields down! Hull 80%! SHIT! Time to get out of here. I was literally in the process of charging the FSD when I noticed another three Vipers were now harrying the Conda. They had its shields down and the hull at 80%. Man, that was too tempting, so I cancelled the FSD and returned to the fight. What followed was a enormously enjoyable dust up, trying to stay below the Conda out of reach of its turrets, occasionally losing my shields and running to a safe distance until they recharged. I wasn’t sure if I’d get the kill shot in though, because it was under some heavy fire by this stage. I like to think that I contributed a fair bit to it (and I did!) but the worst part was see the hull at 3% and being 1.5 km outside my beam laser range! THRUST! THRUST! THRUST! Getting back into range… 2%… NO! Finally, I closed into weapons range and overheated the hell out of my weapons melting holes in its hull. So satisfying to see that reassuring blue message flash up. 97K credits! Nice.

So with 170K of Sidewinder plus 515K of credits, I figured it was time to upgrade. I’ve joined a few other players near Gilgamesh, found Roosa Gateway nearby, and bought my new ship. I took it for a quick joyride, and when returned to the station it wouldn’t let me land. Same bug as mentioned upthread: definitely the correct landing pad, definitely the correct orientation, definitely had the landing gear down, but it wouldn’t switch into landing mode. Eventually I left the station, cancelled docking, requested docking again, and the second time it was fine. Well, apart from my flying, given that the ship is twice the width of my Sidewinder.

Some more pretty pictures…

Sydney’s Anaconda narrowly avoids some missiles…

Not that time! whump

A Sidewinder allows a closer inspection… wait, is that…? It is!

Congrats on your new Cobra, krok, I hope you love her as much as I love mine. Nice Conda kill too, well done!!

I got up to 500k total assets and decided to try out a Viper. I barely had enough to kit it out in C rating gear, but man this thing is nice! Need a little break, but will be back for more soon!

I’ve had a little bit of time to learn the controls, how to travel, dock, etc… I’m not finding any good trade missions, so I skipped to a few different systems looking for some. I’ve found 1 or 2 appropriate missions. For example, one of them is “bring us 4 fish.” Ok – how do I find which systems have fish? I’ve turned on trade routes and looked around the galaxy map, zooming in on system maps and checking out individual ports, but so far, I don’t see any indication of fish. The same thing has happened with several other commodities. With the trade routes showing on the galaxy map… is that just an indication of where prices are lower/higher?

Some Ag economies have fish. BTW you don’t get the trade lines for commodities from/to a system till you’ve either been there or paid for the trade data on the galaxy map. The trade flow lines just show the flow of a commodity from one place to the other (hopefully because it’s a profitable run, but that hasn’t always been so).

Clay: I just start clicking on nearby systems on the map, looking for stations orbiting earth-like worlds. They export things like food and other things. Even if Fish isn’t explicitly listed, when I go there, they usually have Fish available. Same with Animal meat, which is another common request.
