Haven’t read either, but you’re obviously not alone.
You mean drop out of SC? I was already in it at the time, and trying to get close enough for the interdiction tether. I did eventually turn around, go back to it, and drop out of SC but nothing was there. I may not have been close enough
Oh, sorry, I thought you were in normal space. If you’re already in supercruise, you should be able to drop out at the wake like any other destination* and your target willl be there. Sounds like your time wasted let him get away.
- Not exactly like others - you don’t get the same distance meter and mass lock effect, I don’t think, so it’s easier to overshoot.

When that has happened to me in the past (with other games, I haven’t seen it happen with this one) it has generally been an issue with keys on my keyboard sticking a bit, or me inadvertently tapping the windows key while trying to mash my way out of something hairy going on on-screen. Are you sure something like this isn’t going on? Alternatively, is there some kind of process on your computer that tries to grab the foreground to tell you “Job’s done” or some such?
The other issue you mention, about losing input control of your ship, has happened to me a couple times, and was solved by alt-tabbing out and immediately tabbing back. I’m running my game in a borderless window (I think that was the video setting), and I’ve found the game very alt-tab friendly, in that it will quickly handle the transition. But while this was happening to me early on in the game, it hasn’t happened to me in a while, so I assume that either changing over to a borderless window resolved it, or the devs fixed it on their end at some point.
Right ok, there’s a speed / distance indicator in the left hand panel which I can use for that, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks. Your Google-fu is much superior to mine. I’ll try windowed mode and see if that makes a difference.
This reminded me that I was online with Hark and Kelan last night on Hark’s mumble server and had to randomly interrupt to comment how gorgeous the vista greeting me on station egress was.
It was just awesome to randomly leave the station at just the right time and facing that I would be immediately greeted by a stellar moment like that.

I bought two portable/ adjustable laptop tables to hold my hotas setup (they are also helpful for my job to hold extra items when working).
The problem I am having is that the tables are sliding on my chair pad. I need to figure out how to make them stop sliding. Does anyone know if there is something that could be put on the feet to prevent sliding? Special tape or something?
Yes, there are adhesive pads you can use to stop things sliding round. I’ve got them directly on the bottom of my HOTAS X stick. You can get them in a hardware or home improvement store.
And i just died. From lack of power (that led to suffocation). An interesting and important lesson of fuel usage keeping your systems going, even if you are just sitting there letting gravity and momentum slowly spin you around, you are still burning that fuel.
And shutting down all systems except for Thrusters, Power Distributer, Life Support and Power Plant still leaves me using 41%. Shame we can’t rely on some kind of nuclear core for much of this? So i can see if you want to spend proper time enjoying the sights of the galaxy fuel scoops are pretty much essential?
Well, what I really want to do is just to blow up enemy ships while working for a faction in some kind of campaign, but I think my Sidewinder is a bit too weak to do any of that yet, so I need to do the tradegrind to become rich and powerfull :)
I’m pretty much doing the tradegrind, and some of the missions pay quite well for a beginner. I had an in-system delivery mission worth about 10,000 credits. There’s also nothing like getting jumped, holding off long enough for System Security to show up, then collecting a 9,000 credit bounty for nailing the sum’bitch that interdicted you.
If you’re not finding many available missions, maybe try solo/private group for a bit? I had zero trouble finding easy, fairly lucrative light haulage missions in my starting Sidey. Every trip will net you several k plus whatever you make from your spare cargo space. It shouldn’t take you more than a couple of hours to trade up to an Adder or the like.
Find a Resource Extraction Site and take your Sidey in there for some hunting to see how you fare. :)
You can buy fuel too…for a small ship like the Sidewinder or Hauler, it isn’t very expensive. I didn’t get a fuel scoop until I got my Cobra. It is more essential if you are doing exploring and not sure when you’ll find a station, or if fuel is expensive (for the larger ships). In this case, it sounds like you were sitting outside a station just watching it for hours? :P Maybe you should have tried docking and gassing up when the tank hit empty (and you were just on your reservoir). :)

Flew around last night in my Asp, getting rares from here to there. The view from that cockpit is just astounding. Its an expensive ship to run. I have a class 3C fuel scoop on it which scoops at 126p/s max and still it can take an eternity (like ten minutes or so) to completely fill her up. Wear and tear is also starting to cost significant amounts. Next on my want list are A grade thrusters and shield. I want to start pwning pirate face again.
Krok, is you running those black ops missions for the feds? As much as my browncoat self dislikes the feds, flying black ops sounds like a whole heap o’ fun.
Anybody got good tips for podcasts to listen to while traveling?
In general, or specifically Elite podcasts? Lave Radio is the big one, though there are a couple dedicated to (official and semi-official) fan fiction. If you want general, there are a couple of podcast threads in the TV subforum with lots of good suggestions.
Amazing. My wife hears this the same way.
Hah, I didn’t until I read it on Reddit, and now it’s the only way I hear it. One of my best friends heard it this way from the outset though. So weird.

Thanks for the feedback earlier on in the thread, everyone. I bought the game last night, and I’m looking forward to crashing into stations!
Finally got my Cobra, outfitted with some decent guns (all gimbal mounted, as it happens). Earning 300k credits was a slog, partly because I didn’t want to rely too heavily on outside guides etc. Only had time to get into a couple of scrapes with it at the local roadhouse errrr nav beacon. Blew it up crashing into a ship at a dogfight, had to rebuy with insurance. Looking forward to getting back out there and starting some brawls!
