“Rares” are goods that you can only pick up at certain stations, for example, “leathery eggs” at Ridley Scott station (get it?). They usually have to be transported about a hundred fifty light years plus in order to make the best profit on them.

Is there a specific place to sell them? Will all stations accept them? If so, do the prices vary greatly once you hit the 150 LY distance?

Got docking handled after doing all those trade missions at least, shouldn’t blow up any more now :)

Using keyboard/mouse I would wish that the throttle had some sort of acceleration function the longer you held it, so it would start a bit slower to avoid going too fast with tiny ‘taps’ on it, and just double-tap quickly to go max maybe.

If they are looking for inspiration on how to expand the game, I’d prefer they look towards Space Rangers 2 rather than World of Warcraft/Destiny. SR2 had lots of cool dynamic systems that would be terrific if imported into Elite.

I got my rep question answered a page before and have a new question (was hammered from getting caught smuggling goods twice). What’s the best/fastest/cheapest way to increase rep with Federation? If I can just get back to neutral as opposed to being unfriendly that’d be nice.

I would assume doing Federation navy progression missions, but they’re probably not available if the Federation is unfriendly to you. Failing that, look for reputation gain missions in Federation aligned stations. Even trading at those stations will increase rep over time.

Was lucky and got a gold delivery mission that netted me 18000 credits. Now I’m only 28.000 away from a new ship.
Shame that the good missions are so far in between.

God Bless the Queen? When you say you ran into it…you do mean that you rammed into it (or it into you?) and died from the collision? I guess it was an accident rather than an act of war (why would the Empire be trying to kill you?).

Hours it was, maybe 4? What it did teach me was about energy usage of my ship. So if you go into panel (key 4) and select your subsystems, it seems that most of the fuel use is for your Thrusters, even if you are not using them. They also seem to power other parts like your internal heating, as to get that icy cockpit effect you need to take the power off on your Thrusters first (maybe in combination with Life Support, not sure exactly how it works but it wasn’t until Thrusters were off that i got icy). With Thrusters off you can massively extend your fuel use. This might be very handy in FAO if you want to just glide along on your vector without using any fuel, although i suspect you might not be able to do Super Cruise?

Anyway the training is going very well, i’m discovering all sorts of little bits of control info from experimenting beyond just the remit of the actual training missions goals, and loving the vistas that are going along with it. I figure in the next few months before i try the actual game, they should have fixed a bunch of stuff, and i should be a pretty good FOA pilot by then.

Hah, yes. I was boosting toward it when it flew up and into me. Apparently we both bought it as I now have whole new bounty vouchers. ;)

They must like doing that. My first fight ever against one and I got one shot blown up when the Imperial Clipper veered off in the exact same direction I did and smashed into me. My poor little Viper didn’t have a chance.

Great post on Kotaku about a group on Explorers hoping to chart every system in the game:

Try to increase your local faction reputation at a number of places by trading high demand and high supply goods, and try to do the donation missions for federal factions, but only after you find a source - specific places seem to ask for a few specific items repeatedly. This is how I got my empire reputation up.

Thanks! I have another dumb question - how do I know something is a rare? Is it from the commodity screen or bulletin board?

Yes, a million times yes. I like where your head’s at, Tony M.

They will show up in the commodities market and stand out because they are a different color than regular items. They also have funky names.

Question; When i’m in warp speed and approaching ludicrous speed, it seems like the game ‘stutters’ as I get closer to my final objective; maybe it is asset loading or whatnot. Is this something you all experience or is it just on my shitty system? Also, the game executable the launcher downloaded was 32-bit, is there a 64-bit available or planned?

I think that’s a network hitch as it makes sure to load things. Just my guess.

Hah, wow, they must be so upset about their boy Duval being in the hospital that they’re committing suicide by ship. ;)
