I’m the wrong guy to ask, as I’ve never traded in them, but a lot of players see them as the quickest road to riches. I’m sure there are a bazillion guides out there with the details.

Great, thanks!

It seems to be network related, because when I play in Solo mode I typically don’t get it (or it’s much reduced). If I’m in Private Group, even with no one online, I stutter pretty bad. This is an area where they recently made improvements shortly before launch, so hopefully it’s something they’re still actively working on.

Ugh, that’s depressing.

I love WoW but I’m glad I played Elite back when Dikus were barely a glimmer in a MUD-coder’s eye.

I had seen their site before but then couldn’t find it again later, so thanks for posting the article. I find this fascinating. I’m not a combat guy, so I may very well look into this more, as I’ve always wanted to boldly go…

Yeah I don’t have the time to put into that kind of activity but just knowing that this game offers that kind of experience is incredible to me.

Also I’ve got a little over 100k in the bank and thinking about trading up to an adder, should I cash in my Sidey for that or keep it around?

cash it in. you dont need it anymore. later, when you get into the big leagues you me rebuy one as a runabout. the adder replaces it in every conceivable way. except perhaps as a demo for your oculus rift because of its more narrow cockpit.

Gotta say, I dislike this. For a game that is incredibly immersive, the use of contemporary names is very non-immersive.

In 3301AD there are trillions of fans of the 347th remake of Aliens.

Seriously, though, if it bothers you there’s no shortage of other star systems to put around in.

True, but Aliens 346 was much better IMHO.

Hey, who is running that Mumble or Teamspeak server? Thinking hopping on that might be fun just so I’m not floating in space all alone all the time. :)

It’s Harkonis.

So how is this game evolving socially? Are players grouping together in guild like fashion and trying to control areas or is it 1’s/2’s just snooping around looking for bounties?

Bit of column a…bit of column b. We’re all waiting for actual grouping to be implemented, really.

And working chat, I would assume? =)

Although; In space no-one can hear you type might be an apt simulation.

Is the Eagle that comes with the Mercenary Pack free if it gets destroyed (like the Sidewinder is)?

If it is not I am thinking of selling it to get a Hauler or Adder.

Hey, how does it work when you own multiple ships? Is there any provision to shuttle between ships at different locations? Can you have a non-active ship moved to your current location?

What are the bits from column a? Until the game supports it, I can’t imagine there’s much guild-like activity going on for most people playing the game. What am I missing?

To your first question, Tom, not at this time (and I don’t know if ship shuttling is planned). I think you’re better off selling off the non-base equipment and then the ship, and just buying another of the same model wherever you want it. Plus, I think I read at some point that the plan is for stations to charge a fee to store an idle ship, although it may not apply to the free Eagle that comes with the Mercenary edition.

In keeping with the game, you can only swap ships by flying to the station where it’s stored. You play your pilot, not your ships.

I think Brian means that there’s a lot of interest in better grouping and communication tools, but right now you’re effectively playing a space sim in an online, persistent universe where you can occasionally encounter other players as hollow squares on your scanner. Using Mumble to get around the lack of real communication in-game offers more possibilities such as coop combat, but E:D is mostly centered around the solo experience right now. Much of the social experience is found in the forums, and groups like the exploration group linked above, so many players would like better tools to arrange this stuff in game.

[edit] I wrote this before Papageno’s post appeared

a basic sidewinder is pretty disposable once you join the millionaire club. its no biggie imo. having a ship transfer service would detract from the simminess of the thing. bit like fast travel ina bethesda RPG (which i rarely if ever use). This game is about travel. all else is secondary.
