Also, there was this from the EP on the forum:

There are some online changes as well which Andy will post in his update, but one change is worth mentioning here - there should be an improvement in matchmaking that should mean you are more likely to see other players if they are in the same region as you.

In my defence the game is not finished yet and i’m really here for the game Elite IV that i suspect Elite: Dangerous will eventually be, and that is the follow up to both Frontier and FFE, games i played shit tonnes off and loved to death. So yeah i’m here for the planetary landings and pretty much all the stuff i currently enjoy in FFED3D+AndyJ mod:

So i’m in no rush to get into ED, for my requirements it still has a fair way to go.

Have you played Paragon yet? You should, it’s pretty great.

As for ED, you’re missing out man. This is some good shit.

Paragon? No…i’ll go check it out :) And ED is just going to get better, and i don’t want to find myself thinking too many ‘If only’s’ (which i would/do currently…keeping up with the forums and chat here etc). It’s just not ready for me yet, in terms of the actual game. I’m loving the training missions (the combat ones get tough quick!), i’m using them to learn FAO, it should keep me going for just about long enough for ED to be ready for me.

Paragon - http://store.steampowered.com/app/291250/

And yeah, that makes sense, it’ll likely evolve into the game you want it to be, then you can be wonderfully surprised.

Ah a paid for version of Pioneer (which i do know and play (badly)). Ummm maybe? But def not from Steam (i don’t do Steam). I’ll read up on it, if it really is that much better than Pioneer than maybe, i take it i can get it from other places than Steam? Anyway i’ll go read up on it, and back to the ED banter.

I’m glad they fixed the empty missions thing that the new patch seemed to cause! And some of the small updates sound good, hopefully sorting out the psycho cops issue will be a proper fix to some of that oddball behaviour.

I find it humorous to read that you won’t do Steam, only because I have a friend who refuses to buy Elite because it’s NOT on Steam. It’s amusing how people can latch on to vastly opposing things as criteria for the same outcome (purchasing or not purchasing a game).

I’m just a ‘rights’ over ‘convenience’ guy, in many things, not just computer games. Convenience is the bedfellow of the Devil ;)

I also favour the Alliance over the Federation or Empire in Elite. And that is another area of ED currently that needs a lot of work, the Alliance is pretty much not really done as a faction compared to the others at any rate.

Tom is my hero, protecting me from evil space game loving cyber-bullies.

Today I finally managed to do a full-on chase of my quarry! I was blatting away at a Federal Dropship somewhere in space, as he was rocking a 38K CR bounty, I drop his hull down to around 40% and of course I see “Surge Detected”. Right, here we go. He jumps away, I scan his wake, I jump after him and end up in another system. There’s a blue dot accelerating away, and sure enough it’s Alfred (no seriously, that was the guy’s name). So I accelerate and fumble around forgetting that my interdiction device is on mouse 2 and not mouse 1. By the time I realise this, poof! He’s turned into a low energy wake. So I slow down, target it, and eventually drop out of SC into normal space… only to be faced with an unregistered platform in the middle of nowhere. Well I was getting close to a planetary system so perhaps it locked onto this instead, or maybe he’s run to the station to repair. But wait! There’s another high energy wake! The rascal. I scan that, and I’m off again, dropping out of hyperspace I find his ship again. Come back Alfred, you cannot escape! This time he’s in an anarchy system with no planets on the map, but he’s heading away at speed. Fortunately I’m faster, and eventually get close enough to get the interdiction tether on him. Yes! I pull him out of SC, ignore his complaints, and lay into him once more. This time he puts up a far more serious fight, and I nearly lose my shields, but he’s not going to take me down. He spews cargo cannisters everywhere in an attempt to distact me, but eventually he goes boom. No bounty, what the hell? Damn, I guess I needed to use the kill scanner on him once I was in a different system, right?

Instead I check out the cannisters, which turn out to be rare items! Wow! I start hoovering these up as quickly as I can, although the cloud of them is spreading out quickly. I manage to get 4 into the hold when they start disappearing. POP. AARGH! There must have been a dozen of these things easily, so frustrating, but that’s life as a not-very-efficient bounty hunter. Now I just have to find somewhere to sell them for enormous profitz.

That sounds super awesome, Krok.

The bounty is for the current system, so yes if you go to a diff system you have to use the KWS.

My update is moving at a fucking crawl. Won’t be able to play tonight.

I’ve been home for hours and forgot about the update. Should have started it as soon as I got home.

Same. Is it big or are their servers slammed?

edit: lol, servers I guess. it just ziped through 90% of it in a minute :)

Probably both.

I had no trouble updating it, around 30 minutes ago. But my wife is home, so I’m going to check it out tomorrow at the earliest.

Wow. Mine just completed. The update went from barely moving at 1% to zipping along, so perhaps it was a momentary server snafu.

Sorry to complain so quickly. But I love this game and want it when I want it.

Complaints? I’m not sure what one would complain about to a bounty hunter or pirate!

Had a sloppy landing in a station because I was impatient and pissed off at the game because I had to travel all the way back to the station to pay a measly fine because Sheriff Buford T. Justice crossed my line of fire while I was engaged with a wanted Anaconda. Ended up getting my first 100k credit for killing a bad Anaconda but I had to high tail it out of there because I was hostile to every cop in the extraction site. Well that sloppy landing just cost me my ship and that 100k because the whole godamn station opened up on me from plowing into the control tower that sits in front of the pad. The AI needs more wiggle room in determining an outright attack from an accidental grazing and the motherfucking stations should not destroy a player’s ship over stupid crap like a botched landing. I’m so fucking livid right now. I love this game but they really need to tone down the AI’s aggressiveness in punishing the player over petty shit.

Is there a method to finding better equipment? What type of base would have decent friendship engines :)

I bought a hauler and eventually want to upgrade my power and engines. But I only see D equipment (not that I can afford the A grade yet).
