What I REALLY want them to fix is comms to friends in game. Even the supposedly implemented ones now (let alone small group chat or whatever) fail half the time. At least before, you’d get a visual indicator that let you know if a person was reachable, no such thing now.

Now I did read somewhere that there might be a router setting or something that could be causing a problem in this regard, but I can’t remember where I read it.

Hoorah, finally saved up enough to buy my Cobra and kit it out with 1m creds of gear. Just need to save up some insurance cash and then I’m heading to some conflict zones to wreck shit.

[QUOTE=KevinC;3695083]Do want.

I can quite imagine gallivanting around the galaxy in one of those, thank you very much. Actually the Fer-De-Lance was the ship I was hoping they’d kept as a surprise Christmas present after the initial release on the 16th, so it’s nice to see it first up for inclusion. The game badly needs MOAR SHIPS.

Yes, best fun I’ve had with the game so far. I do so love my Cobra.

Yeah I’m not talking about the hitch from loading assets or whatever. I haven’t even seen that yet but those kinds of things don’t generally bother me. This is literally every 20 seconds, just spinning around in place in the first tutorial. I assume no one else here has this problem, but at least a few people on the forums have similar issues so I don’t feel quite so alone.

Yeah, sorry Tim I’ve not experienced that my own self.

Try turning on the frame limiter to say half your screens frequency. So for my 60hz screen that’s vsync on and for limited to 30 fps. Rocksolid. Too bad that trick don’t work for rift.

How do you tell that there are player ships in a system? Do you look at the Contact list on the left panel? Are they marked differently than other ships?

I’ve been playing almost always in Open Play but I’ve only encountered a player once that I know of. He messaged me saying it was the first time he’d seen a real player, and I messaged back, and I asked him if he was the one currently trying to interdict me, and he LOL’d and said no. We talked briefly via /r replies. But I always wondered how he knew I was in the system, and where he was, and how he saw me.

hollow rectangles are one way, also pulling up the comm screen zoom will have them listed there as well I believe

I love this game so far, even though nothing is making sense to me. I tried just leaving the docking bay and flying around, and I feel like I can never get to where I went to go via the FS drive.

Does anyone know of a resource extraction zone in an anarchy system? Just had another Fed fly into my stream so I need to go anarchy but I checked out a few nearby sites that are listed as refinery and extraction but they had no RES to fight in.

It’s not super obvious, but when you are in super cruise you are throttling the rate of acceleration or deceleration, and when approaching a destination the assist in the drive attempts to decelerate you automatically. So where you see the time to the target, it’s a snapshot of the time it would take to get to your destination at the current velocity – but since you wouldn’t be able to stop safely at that velocity, the assist continues decelerating. The consequence of this is that the time to target is never an indicator of how long it will actually take to get there, but its rate of change is measure of how stably you are accelerating or decelerating in relation to the distance you just travelled.

In practicality, this means you throttle up until the time to target approaches 10 seconds or so, then subtly nudge the throttle up or down until it settles at about 7 secs. Counter intuitively, this can last for several minutes of travel with your readout pretty much pegged at the same 7 seconds, which is actually what you want. Too much below there and you will reach a critical rate where you can’t decelerate fast enough and will overshoot. However, you can push it a little more (say down to 3 or 4 secs) as you get very close to the target, because you (by virtue of the auto assist) are moving much slower as you get closer.

OMG I got my EDTracker head tracking thingy today! I gotta say, wow, after fiddling with calibrating the thing, EDTracker (I got a pre-built 9150 enclosure) works pretty damned great!!! Yay for head tracking!!!

Congrats! Head tracking is something, isn’t it? When I bought into the Standard Beta at the beginning of August I finally coughed up the coin for the TrackIR 5 (although I stuck with the “baseball cap bill” reflective clip vs the “pro clip” with the LEDs). Now I wonder why it took me so long. Haven’t used it in ETS 2 or any other driving or flight sim, but I do want to at some point.

I’ve ordered one too. How big is the enclosure? Will it fit comfortably on top of my (sturdy) headphones? I was thinking of just attaching it with blue-tak and a couple of rubber bands so I can disconnect it when I don’t want it, but it would need to be fairly light for that to work.

Not very big, maybe 1.75 inch by 1.25 inch. I also affixed it to the top of my headphones as well with Velcro tape and rubber bands.

Picture please.

Well done! If you find a system with some active conflict zones, please pass the information on. I am pretty sure I still don’t completely understand how they work or how to find them as I am still looking and am pretty sure they are still going on.

Is there a way to look through the galaxy map to find them? Once in a system that may have them, how do you find them? Originally I figured they would just show up in the Navigation panel, but now it sounds like you need to be within 1Ls of the planet the station is near that has the Civil War? I am totally confused :).

When I passed through Barnard’s Star over a week ago, I saw in the Navigation panel listings for High Intensity Conflict Zone and Low Intensity Conflict Zone. I was just using Barnard’s Star as a stepping stone to Sol, so it’s not like I left the vicinity of the star to spot the zones. Presumably you can find other ones by using the in-game news feed to skim news items for systems leaving the Feds or defaulting on their loans and the like.

So I’ve reached the point where there’s not much I can do to my Cobra to upgrade it anymore, and while I’m totally happy with the ship, I was wondering if the Asp is a step up and worth the price. Anyone give it a good test-drive yet?
