Oh yeah and FUCK yea baby :D

I have accumulated a few Alliance bounties. Not a significant amount. Only 7500+ credits. But I figure it’s a good excuse to go on a long journey once again into territory where I can’t plot the route. Maybe i ll do some exploration along the way using my newfound ability to move my head around the cockpit.

So I traded in my Sidey last night for a Viper and had enough left over to upgrade most of the internals to C, and another 4 ton cargo Bay, and throw a multi canon on as well. What kind of weapons should I put on this to start collecting bounties to help me earn that Cobra?

At this stage I feel as though lasers and multicannon are superior to any other weapon out there in performance (especially price to performance). On my cobra I run with two class 2 lasers and two class 1 multicannon (well, technically I’m using missile racks at the moment, but I feel the MC are more effective in terms of earning money). Just make sure you gimbal the class 1 weapons or you’re not going to hit anything. :)

Thanks for the advice Kevin, can you explain the difference between classes of weapons? Is class 1 better than class 2? I know a is better than b is better than c, but the classes confuse me.

The class is the size and you definitely want the biggest size you can put on there for the weapons. I am currently using fixed class 1 beam lasers and gimballed class 2 multicannons on my Viper, but used to have them the other way around with gimballed class 1 multicannons and gimballed class 2 pulse? lasers.

Fighting anything but a very large ship with deep shields, the class 1 lasers are plenty fast to burn through them so I prefer the bigger multicannons, but did just fine the other way too. I do like having my lasers fixed now to at least have an option against chaff and it forces me to be a little more skilled in my aiming (and they do a bit more damage I believe), but gimballed work fine too for the most part.

I referenced this page when I started to kit out my Viper.

Anyone know what turning off the cargo racks (or hatch) in the modules list does? Will it jettison cargo?

I haven’t tried it. You could always just buy some super cheap good (algae, biowaste or whatever) and see what happens.

That’s great thanks! Okay next question, I hung out at a USS and destroyed 2 wanted ships and collected 2 bounties. Where do i go to turn these in? I thought maybe the closest station in system but the contacts/bounties screen there showed no bounties to collect.

It’s always been a good logical upgrade from the Cobra in relation to keeping the things that a Cobra is good at (combat and jack-of-all-trades). Having said that a sizeable clique of Elite players swear by the Cobra forever…and depending on it’s stats that Fer-De-Lance is looking another good bet. It was a great ship in the previous games.

The bounties aren’t showing up in the “transactions” tab of the left panel? That’s where they should be.

Yeah, check there and make sure to go to a station that is affiliated with that faction and then you should be able to turn them in.

Okay thanks I’ll give that a shot

I feel like I’m flying a WW2-era bomber! IN SPAAAAAAAAACE!!!..

I decided to ignore the stuttering every 20 seconds and just play. I’ve already said “fuck yeah” out loud once in the combat tutorials. It was the one against the transport and Sidewinder escorts. Nailed a Sidewinder with those cool non-heat-seeking rockets and flew through the explosion.

Pro-tip for where to put your HOTAS: if you have a traditional desk, pull out the top drawers and balance a large thin hardback book on them to make a flat surface for the controllers.

I totally loved my Cobra. But I was starting to feel a little invulnerable in it, and that can get boring. Looking forward to see what the Fer-de-Lance is like!

Finally found a system that actually shows the stations in current Civil War status after scouring the Frontier forums today so now I am off to Ross 780 to fight for the federation for a bit! Should be some conflict zones there it seems. Only 84.88 Ly to go!

It doesn’t, no. During my extended trips lately, when I wanted to quit the game I have taken to flying a few Ly from the star, and shutting down pretty much everything. This saves having to dock at stations, because I’m currently playing in Open that gives pirates less chance to find me. So far I haven’t had anything float out of the cargo hatch. In fact the only thing I don’t switch off is Life Support obviously, and the Power Plant which can’t be turned off anyway. It’s nice to come back to the ship with ice covering the windows, then fire it all up, warm back up, and continue my journey.

I wish there was a mile counter on my ASP. That thing must have about 20k ly now since i bought it. Yea that sound. neeeeooooOOWWWRRRRRRrrrrr

Also a shit ton of pew pew. I currently only rock a 5C shield and an A class power distro. Plenty tough, but sometimes the bad do make me pop a shield booster. Perhaps I’ll try a 6 once i get the money for a good one. Dreaming of a 6A. that costs more than twice as much as the ship herself.

I also am still pondering the weapons. Currently I rock four (count 'em, 4!) gimballed small burst lasers. They melt the frack out of everybodies shields, but they do tend to run dry and make me put pips away from shields. So they are candidates for swappage.
the two medium gimballed autocannons however are never gonna go. They do put a lot of hurt down and have a LOT of ammo so they dont run dry often. The bad thing about the gimbals is that they lack the accuracy to properly snipe specific bits of a ship such as the power core.

So anybody got ideas?
