Kind of zero interest in this update, myself. “Now you and up to three friends can discover the wonders of endlessly grinding funeral ships, wedding processions, and technology traders!”

Groups are a step in the right direction but core content is still so thin on the ground.

They also said there would be larger, more lethal USSes for groups to find a challenge in, so hopefully that won’t be as big a deal.

Fine, if the AI has been trained to actually go aggro when one of their buddies has been smacked. Hopping in to a USS that’s holding a bunch of pissy pirate Vipers would actually become something to fear.

Fine, if the AI has been trained to actually go aggro when one of their buddies has been smacked.

Isn’t that what people were complaining about the most before the patch to adjust wanted same-faction behaviour?

AI is utilizing wings (wings of law enforcement, pirates, etc) so one would imagine they would react to attacks on each other.

Here’s hoping :\

@Ginger: no, the AI behavior there was due to factions. If the cops and the wanted guys were in the same faction, then hitting a wanted guy turned the cops against you in that USS as well. I believe that’s fixed. I’m talking about entering a USS with like three pirates; you shoot one, and the other two continue to fruitlessly and repeatedly scan you for cargo. AI nonsense like that is all over ED.

Very interesting review of Elite:Dangerous by Chris Thrusten in the latest issue of PC GAMER. An entertaining read!

Hits the nail on the head as to the strengths of the game ("…delivering some of the best stories about spaceships you’ve ever taken part in." In fact a large part of the review IS one such “story”. I find Elite amazing in that it generates stories you simply HAVE to tell someone…ANYONE!)

And the weaknesses ( “The MMO pretensions of Elite…”, “It needs more STUFF…DEEPER stuff”).

Hopefully WINGS will address some of these weaknesses. And answer the question “Why am I spending so much time in a Hauler in OPEN play?”

I really want a hangar or something that i can store my shit in. I can’t believe they dont have that. I’m docked, and want to travel a bit, so i go to swap my viper for my eagle. Oops, cant swap while you have cargo. Ok, so i’ll just sell my cargo. Nope, your cargo’s illegal and there’s no black market here. Ok, so i undock, jettison my cargo and…get fined, for dumping too close to the dock. oh, for the love of…

There’s that part of the gaminess that i hope will get peeled away at some point. Looking for pirates, i find some floating cargo. In any other game, that’s good loot and a reward for going out and exploring. Here, it’s called stolen, and at the very next unidentified signal, i find the system police who have the most omniscient system in the world that can immediately identify that this space loot is not mine and fine me 2.5x its value. grrr…

So, anyways - i’m floating off somewhere, i know not where, but not a lot of human traffic witnessed. Should I go to Sol? (or anywhere in particular)? Is there something better there? I kinda like the area that i’m in because there’s a handful of systems nearby with some complimentary traits(imports/exports/black markets/ship building/outfitting/independent/anarchy/federation), but really have no clue if this is like a 90% perfect area, or 50%…

finally, is there really that few empire outposts? Alliance is about 40ly away from me, but i can see an obvious density of them, i can only see one empire outpost and its like 70 ly out…It’d kinda be nice to cash in these creds though…

(irritated)

Top 5 things you could do with loot found in a space game(no particular order)

  1. sell to legitimate commodities broker (advantage(A): higher return, disadvantage(D): risk of discovery/repo)
  2. sell to black market broker - (A) no risk, (D) Lower return
  3. turn in to local police - (A) Rep gain, (D) no return
  4. Give to preferred faction - (A) rep gain, (D) no return
  5. Store/use yourself(equipment) (A) free (D) need to be able to use/store

and, a free one…

  1. return to rightful heir/owner - (a) rep gain (d) lower return, more effort

Almost all of these choices could trigger additional missions/arcs (return to the police, who ask you to help with the investigation of what happened ; black marketeer wants to know if you can help out with a problem etc)

grrr…ok, sorry. I’m better now…

Is Elite still only available at the developer’s site?

Yes AFAIK

I think depending on how it carries it’s success forward, it will probably only ever be available from Frontier themselves. You could wait a couple of years, and it might possibly appear in other places, or just bite that bullet and jump on now (although i still feel it is a little rough around the edges/still seemingly in a late beta type stage/in need of more content both SP and MP).

It is easily worth the price of admission imo and has a metric shit ton of unfulfilled potential that is being worked on. which is great. its good and only getting better over time.

Oh yeah, definitely worth getting. It is a great looking/feeling space game and nicely ‘hardcore’. But don’t expect it on Steam anytime soon.

Just downloaded the Elite:Dangerous “Wings” 1.2 Beta test.

Initially I thought " OK…What do you do?!? As per usual Elite forces you to scamper to the Internets to glean any info on the game."

But then I noticed there is a lot of WINGS info under “NEWS” on your main panel when docked. Good job Frontier! Still confused as to WHAT TO DO!?!

BTW the Wings Beta somehow “separates” itself from your main 1.1 game. You start off Wings from where you are in 1.1 and that remains saved. I already see signs of griefing and abuse of this in the fact that there is a Super Sale of ships (but only Transports…and the Sidewinder) at Dalton Station and already griefers are set up shooting at everyone and everything near the station. I managed to made it inside and it was well worth it!!! Sale ships are only for the Beta Test only though…

Let’s see if “Wings” provides a step forward in the “MMO pretensions of Elite”.

Buzzed around a bit in the new ships. They are nice. The Vulture has two class 3 hardpoints. The Fer-de-Lance has four class 2 points and one class four. Both are hard to fit properly in the current iteration.

also… E X T E R N A L motherfucking V I E W S ! ! ! !

Halle-fucking-lujah!

Hey! I had forgotten how Frontier were talking up this feature in their newsletter. Another example of how the forums are a prime source of info when playing this game. Thanks schurem!!! Gotta purchase and deck out a Viper now!!!

You are welcomely Here!! Please to be letting us all here at Quarter To Three know about your adventures in space. (!!!)

How much money is the FDL going to cost when 1.2 hits? Asking for a friend.

Hey!!! I am a Graduate of the Larry King USA Today School of Forum Posting…I look forward to providing you daily quips…and quotes…of my adventures in space…space space space…dot dot dot (!!!)
