The fact the game launched already playable with an Xbox controller indicated to me that this was an avenue they were likely pursuing. I’m a PC elitist snob but my concerns with console involvement typically come from designing games for a console first, as there are significantly more hardware limitations in terms of both performance and controls. Elite is already out, though, so I’m with BleedTheFreak in that I don’t see this impacting Elite negatively.

Yes, you are correct, this may be a positive. I purchased E:D based on their description of Planetary Landings and if this provides cash flow to make it to that expansion I’m glad.

I tried playing Elite on my 50" TV, kicking back on the couch with an xbox controller. I didn’t enjoy it as much. It was missing the intimacy of sitting in a cramped cockpit, because the cockpit dashboard was suddenly ten feet away. Completely killed the immersion for me.

And now that I have a HOTAS flight system, there’s simply no going back to a game controller for me.

I actually don’t like to play any game from my couch to my TV - back when I had the console plugged into the main TV I’d grab a chair and sit about halfway between couch and TV. Eventually I moved my PS4 to my desk and plugged it into a second monitor. Er… then I got rid of my PS4 as after a decade of trying, console gaming just continues to be second fiddle to the PC. I tried!

Did my first ever bit of rare trading today. It was profitable, but it was also my first trip ever in a Type 6. It’s awful. Overheats at the drop of a hat, so I’ll switch to a Cobra and keep going, as it was a nice change of pace.

Wings…Clunky right now but you can see its potential.

Currently the game has the feel of a group of Solo players being FORCED to play a MMO. No one trusts a hollow ship icon.

I managed to bounty hunt my way up to having a few million to spare in addition to my class A viper. I was starting to get a little bored since at my rate of play it’s going to be many many months until I can afford a larger fighting ship. I figured with the cash I had laying around I’d purchase an advanced discovery scanner and start scanning the systems for which I have no data that I occasionally pass through. While doing this in an anarchy system I got interdicted by an Imperial Clipper. That fight was the most fun I’ve had in combat in a long while. I had never run across one before in a nav point or RES so it was totally new to me. The fight wasn’t near as difficult as the anaconda assassination missions that I’ve been doing, but something about the ship made for an enjoyable dogfight that kept me on my toes. I can’t wait to get jumped by another one.

I also had a recent evening of my most profitable hunting yet. I found a system that had both the Alliance, Federation, and an independent faction represented, plus two RESs. When I dropped into one of them I found it was lousy with wanted anacondas. I regrettably had only an hour or so to play that night, but the whole time I was collecting huge bounties. Between various faction payouts I made a million in that one play session. Sadly when I returned the next evening it only contained the occasional wanted sidewinder.

Now that I’ve experienced an anaconda filled RES, I of course want to find more. Does anyone know if there is some system to the intensity of RESs, nav points, and the like? Is it just totally random when you drop into one? Is it at all based on the situation in the system? Or other than the existence and type of authority vessels are all RESs basically the same? I notice that if a RES seems to only be spawning sidewinders, that doesn’t change no matter how long you are there. I’ve also tried leaving and coming back and observed that doing so can turn a RES of only sidewinders into one with cobras. It would seem the type of encounter one gets in a RES is determined once when it is entered, and can be reset only by exiting and re-entering.

I’ve had a little time to think about it, and it was always stated from the start of the Kickstarter that ED could come out on other platforms, so the Xbone reveal is not a surprise as such, but it might have it’s own effect on the game, both positive and negative.

The good side is the extra money it will bring in, which means the PC version survives longer with the power kept on at Frontier. It will also require that the current peace-meal way the game communicates stuff to the player is more ‘polished’, and ED needs lots of that kind of attention.

The bad side is it will undoubtedly have an effect on the type of content the game gets in the future, which might pull the game even further away from where i was hoping it would go as a proper PC based sequel of the series of Elite games (and not a stripped down ‘lite’ modern version).

Whatever, i’m not that massively into ED currently that it will have a huge effect on me, but if it all goes ‘bad’ it would be the most expensive single game i never played much! So it will retain a level of infamy through the rest of my life, as the previous games in the series have attained their level of fame in my gaming history.

Has it been mentioned anywhere, whether its an exclusive console deal, or whether it might come to the PS4?

I don’t see how that follows. Can you explain what you’re talking about? Just a more integrated/fleshed out tutorial? I can’t see them changing all that much about say, GalNet or the mission structures just for the Xbox version. I suppose the galaxy map is going to be more streamlined on Xbox, but I don’t see that as an improvement.

Yeah, as noted above, it’d be a concern if it were a simultaneous release as with Inquisition and other such games, but we’ve already got as PC a PC game that has been released in the past few years complete with an absolutely bonkers amount of keybinds and a nice immersive interface in-game. If Xbox sales result in them producing more content, that’s great for everyone. Honestly, my only concern would be that they may not be getting as good an experience as PC gamers because they haven’t a keyboard to fall back on for additional binds.

I could never find a conclusive answer to this other than it depended upon population size of a system. It’s very hard to stay motivated to bounty hunt Sidewinders and Cobras after dinning at an all you can eat buffet of Anacondas.

I’ve been in a few dozen different RESes in different systems, and rarely have I found one to have several Anacondas. Anarchy-based systems seem to fare better in this regard, I’ve personally seen, but even then you’re still at the whim of the RNG.

From this comment, it sounds like a timed exclusive with other platforms (i.e. PS4) to follow at some point.

Spent the last hour or two playing with the Debug Camera feature in Wings 1.2.

Intuitive and fun.

Making your very own YouTube Epic Space Opera has never been easier.

I can try a little :) Everything about the way the game communicates to the player feels ‘rough’, except in the area of the actual feel of flight and fight. Elite is the most immersive and stunning looking space shooter because that part IS awesome. Everything else, from the horribly obtuse control setup menu (that we all HAVE to go into) to the pretty thin ‘tutorials’, to the info in game; from Ship upgrade parts (which is better, by how much etc) to plotting your trade route (getting better with patches), to info about the planets and systems around you in the galaxy.

Everything else, except the flight and fight bit, feels like a throw back to the early 90’s, and not in a good way. There is little to no personality to anything, no NPC faces, no connect to system x over system y (as they all feel the same). The game ‘communicates’ badly. Space is vast and varied (as would be the people/places in it), but in ED the game communicates all that variety in a way so it feels all the same. What is the real difference between the Federation and Empire? (Don’t mention the Alliance!) GALNET is not making the difference, players are not really able to either currently, the background sim is all smoke and mirrors according to tests.

Now FD themselves are kind of the worst Dev’s at communicating, even when they say they are trying to not be (or even giving the update threads etc). And the game they made is exactly the same. It might be that it was just released too early, so much of that is simply not functioning as it should? We can’t know, but i’m quite serious when i say i find the game obtuse much of the time, i’m always fighting the games communication to me about the simulation it is running. Sometimes it is a bug, sometimes it is a ‘beta’ feature not fully realised, sometimes it is just flat out being ‘difficult’ (as in stubborn/awkward) for the sake of it? e.g why default the scanner to shortest setting all the time, just so i have to reset it to long range? grrrrr.

I completely get why you have so many ‘Frustrated’ type threads all over their forum, and much of that (when not a bug thing) is nearly always down to the poor communication of the game to the player. You can work around much of this and i think this is what we all nearly do, but it doesn’t really have to be there in the first place, the devs just need to address the issues and make it better like the majority of other AAA games do. I seriously find FFE and Frontier less obtuse than ED, and those are more complex games.

Considering they have been selling skins from the off it is kind of crazy this took so long to appear!

Thanks - I’ve bought a full lifetime pass on the PC, but I might be interested in taking this to the PS4 instead actually.

But why is being on Xbox going to change any of that?

Will your profile be cross-platform? If so, I may double dip on Xbox One.

I actually don’t know, but I HOPE so.
