You need to set your faction once you enter the zone, via the Function tab.
Booted up E:D for the first time in a few weeks today and holy hell is bounty hunting more profitable! In a little over an hour at a RES, I’ve already made 1.4 million credits.
Indeedily, even sharing with wingmen netted me over a mil this evening.
We then headed down to Lugh. Even the low intensity combat zones were nuts.

Yeah, a wingman and I hung around Lugh for a while, fighting for the Crimson State. I’m up to the “C” contribution level, which as it currently stands should net me 12.5 million credits. That amount just happens to be the amount of total credits I’ve earned thus far in the game, so needless to say it was well worth my time! Crimson State is pushing the 9th reward tier as well, so who knows what the new reward value will be!
Meanwhile, I (sadly) traded in my Vulture for an Asp to work on Imperial rank (I really want to fly that Imperial Clipper for some reason). I’m up to Knight so far, but I’ve hit a brick wall and still have Lord and Baron ranks to go. I took a break from mission running and went back to bounty hunting in a RES and, while the Asp performs pretty well in combat, it’s certainly no Vulture. I didn’t realize how spoiled I got from the Vulture’s shields. I was expecting the drop in maneuverability to be noticeable, but my shields feel like they’re made out of tissue paper and rainbows.
How do you do the contribution thing? I couldn’t find a mission or anything for it on the bulletin board, even after choosing crimson.

What station? The Crimson State community goal mission can be found in Balandin Gateway. Accept the mission, then cash in your combat vouchers, and they should be added to the goal count.
Yeah, I fell foul of this too. Just joined a conflict zone, piled in and earned nothing for my kills. You need to join the community goal at the specific station it’s hosted at.
Ah, Balandin Gateway, perfect, that was the missing piece, thank you.

An important thing here to note that bit me: You can turn in Combat Vouchers in any Crimson State station and get the money, but you only get contribution for them when they’re turned it in at Balandin! So save your vouchers to turn in there, not other stations in the system. I lost about 400,000CR worth of contribution before I figured out what was going on. :)
Yeah, I did a bit last night and when I was about to turn in the bonds I was like “Wasn’t there something ELSE I was supposed to do…?”
Luckily it was only 61k.
So I made my way to Lugh and thought I’d try my hand at a Low Intensity Combat Zone and got my ass kicked almost immediately. Regarding factions, is there some option to set it, or do I just go in and start shooting the people on the other side? Which is what I did.

Once you enter a combat zone, hit 4 to bring up your ship status display, tab over to FUNCTIONS, and the top option will be FACTION. Select it and choose your poison. Once you do, half the targets in your volume should display red. Shoot them with your new-found extreme prejudice. …Profit!
Gotcha. Thanks!
So at first blush, this seems less profitable than bounty hunting at an RES with a stream of 80k-200k bounties… is there some other or larger payoff?
EDIT: Yes, clearly there is. I’ll have to see what contribution level I’m at.

Yeah, if the global reward tier has been pushed high enough, it can be pretty lucrative. Compared to how bounty hunting was until a couple weeks ago, it was probably much better. For the most part, though, I enjoy it for the fun and put the credit/hour ratio aside. Sometimes I like having a large brawl to take part in instead of having to scan each ship and competing with 17 security vessels for the kill. :D
So hey, I’m not seeing the mission. Am I missing something?

It may have finished. Once the progress bar completely fills up, it’s over, even if there would otherwise be time remaining.

Yep, it finished today. After hitting the 9th tier, the “C” level contribution reward was bumped from 12.5M to 15M credits! I went and picked up my reward and also managed to snag another Imperial rank… one more to go and I can grab the Imperial Clipper! Thanks to the community goal in Lugh, I also should have the funds for it (although it won’t be pimped out in the least).
Ohhhh, that makes sense. Looks like it’s back to Lave for me!
Has anyone here tried E:D with the original Rift dev kit? Is it actually playable at that resolution?
Even with the DK2, I had a hard time really playing. Text is very hard to read. It was a great experience and very cool, but I don’t think I could play regularly like that. I suspect the DK1 would be even worse, unfortunately. :/
