Thanks Big K - he does seem a bit mean to us. Any room for Tim as well?

Scharmers - I guess I understand you if you enjoy it as it is. I guess I’m just sad its not for me…yet and hope it will be, because its the best looking sci-fi game out there and it does a lot of things right. :-)

As for X3 it just seems too old, mangy and not very interesting.

I don’t think scharmers want you to go away Raz, he’s saying there’s an alternative that has just about everything you’ve mentioned that you can totally play today.

I recommend Albion Prelude my own self, it looks great, has a focused campaign and plenty to do. If Elite isn’t your thing of course, which it doesn’t sound like it is.

I’ll leave that for you and Tim to decide. ;)

Non-judgmental “no thanks!”

More or less this. It’s like hating on Coke because it’s not 7-UP, but then saying that 7-UP is … IDK obsolete or something.

At any rate I am looking forward to this Fight the Power or whatever 1.3 expansion stuff is going to bring. FD needed to do something in the PvP space – which FD seems to desperately want to getting rolling – beyond the broken ganking model it is now; the 1.3 redesign now gives us a little more to squabble over beyond “Fuck I’m bored, LOL a stock Hauler ahoy!”

For me it’s that it adds… direction, focus, and context to what I’m already doing. Okay, yeah, I can blow up pirates or even run some missions and get my standing up with a local faction. But there’s no why or reason to it all. The only real driver for anything in the game right now is “make money”. That’s well and good, but it does tend to make things a little monotonous and flat after a while.

With Power Play, it sounds like I’ll now care about helping Faction A over Faction B. The fact that the factions will be providing perks, but some of those perks are only applicable when in territory controlled by that faction, means I now have a reason to dive into a Civil War between the two. The Community Goal is Lugh was nice and all, but most people just worked on both sides to double up on rewards. Because at the end of the day, it made no impact whatsoever if Crimson State Group or the Fed-aligned faction controlled the system.

Like I said before, I don’t play in Open, it’s just not really my bag anymore. I still think this 1.3 update is going to add a lot to the game for me, though, even if I’m not doing engaging directly in PVP with other faction pilots.

Just face it, it will take time to add content, but mark my words, done right, this is a good can of awesome

that said, I wish he’d stop with this faction warfare and crap, there is a whole galaxy of mystery and treasure, why can’t they fill it with that, there is no reason to turn this int CTF when you got this siiize

Honestly, X3 has incredibly mediocre combat, especially in comparison to E:D. Everything else it does is wonderful, though.

New drones for collecting cargo, prospecting, mining and transferring fuel to empower you whether you favour trading, combat or exploration, whether you prefer to fly with friends or alone.

Oh Hi Elite. How you doin?

I spent tonight hammering at a so called Community Goal. The aim is to turn is as much imperial bounty vouchers as possible at LaMing port in HR706. You get a bonus that depends on your contribution to filling the bucket. I already made it up to the 40% tier. Great fun.

Scharmers, you are SO right about the beam/gimballed cannon combo for the vulture. It is a-fucking-mazing.

Was there a change to RES that i missed? I got my x52 back last week(they replaced it completed, hooray for mad katz/saitek!), and last logged in about a month ago…so yesterday i had a chance to log in and test my muscle memory, went to my go to RES and…flew around for 10minutes without encountering a single pirate…flew to another one, 15 minutes…3 small pirates, like 60k total…the vulture needs bigger food to feed itself! Was this just bad luck, or did something change?

Just bad luck. The 1.3 update should be adding “high intensity” RES, which should help.

log out and in at the RES (or jump in and out), it should reset the instance unless there is another player there.

I’ve put a few sessions into that one and racked up about 10mil, putting me currently in the 15%. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like there’s enough time left for the maximum tier to be hit. The Alliance is due for some combat goals. I don’t like working for the imperials, but the Imperial Clipper I want to upgrade to next will require me being mercenary.

I wish you could put extra ammo in an internal compartment. I’m torn between double gimbaled pulse and a beam/cannon combo. I’ve been playing most recently with the twin lasers just so I never have to go back to base until I’ve really had my fill.

I can’t wait until 1.3. I already have been trying to work with the rather thin faction system by choosing where I hunt or fight based on who I want to help. I’ve been trying to promote alliance democracies. Even just having some more fleshed out background for the factions and minor factions would be welcome.

I’ve only just recently begun to fully appreciate some of the 1.2 features. At first enemy wings seemed to only have added a sliver of challenge to my bounty hunting. However I’ve now gotten myself into hostile relations with some of the pirate groups that I’ve been beating on for a while. Those factions will now shoot on sight. A few times now I’ve been working on the ships of one pirate wing, when suddenly a separate wing of three other ships will join in and turn things into a real fight.

Thanks to my top 5% performance in the recent Alliance community goal of turning bounty vouchers in at Ridley Scott station in Zaonce, I am up to 70mil in the bank and tonight I plan to find a station with a Fer-de-lance for sale.

For anyone looking to upgrade to a Python or Anaconda, due to the community goal there’s a 16% discount on all Faulcon DeLacy ships for the next couple of weeks.

Grabbed this last week (which means a sale by next week for those who haven’t bought it!!!) and it’s pretty daunting to get into. But not so much that it doesn’t keep drawing me back. Which hopefully means a long enjoyable career as a virtual space pilot.

So my initial plans are mostly for an exploration end-game for me. Just seeing what’s out there orbiting that tiny ball of light in the distance. Any advice/direction for a total newb in this regard? I’m still getting used to the interface, but deep space is calling me…home.

And I’m currently using m/kb and am getting used to it. I’ve read some folks swear by a stick while others use and prefer m/kb. If I don’t stick with m/kb it will probably be a xbox controller I would try next.

I play with xbox controller and keyboard on my lap.

Look around your cockpit. See the controls the pilot is holding? That is on the market as the saitek x52. The game is developed on those and the in game controls are modeled after it. So there’s that.

Put “Elite Dangerous exploration guide” into YouTube and you’ll find plenty of helpful videos (as ever with space stuff, Scott Manley’s are great, though quite old) which explain the “trick” to discovering new bodies within a system. Equipment wise, you need a discovery scanner and a fuel scoop and a decent jump drive.
