Powerplay releases TODAY! Servers down 15.30 UK time for up to 6 hours. Suddenly the wait for the Witcher 3 patch doesn’t seem so hard.
Braben in the latest newsletter:
Q – I am slightly concerned that reputation decay will put off people from interacting with the various powers. As a casual gamer who fits in ED around family life what would drive me to help a power if all that is going to happen is my reputation decays? Basically am I going to feel like a hamster on a wheel going nowhere fast as my reputation degrades faster than I can make it!?
A – Absolutely understand about family pressures and pressures of work. Applies to me too… The reputation decay is a really minor thing. This is a separate thing - it is to help people becoming caught in a hostile relationship with major and minor factions. It doesn’t apply to your rating within the Power. The reputation is separate.
The reputation decay down from ‘Allied’ only applies to Major Factions - and as long as you gain some reputation with a Minor Faction then it doesn’t decay.
Also the credit loss on selling equipment has been removed for now.

Hopefully the system is palatable to me! I also think they’re insane for launching such a big update on a Friday evening, but hey if they wanna work some OT that’s their prerogative. :)
Work’s been kind of slow so I took the afternoon off as vacation and jumped back into this after a long hiatus. Did my very first rare trade goods run and almost doubled the money I started out with transporting about 19 tons total of goods in my Cobra (from about 280k to 525k or so). Not too shabby! Now I’m in the Lave area and the nearby systems are rare goods Meccas, so I anticipate making an even better haul on the way back.
Haven’t really looked into the power play stuff, but it might be another way to make money, and I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements to mining (collector drones and such).
Anyone else not getting a link to the forums on the main Elite webpage currently? I found it via a search, but i’m not seeing an actual link on the games main site since they changed all that? Probably a technical oversight after the changes.

I havent touched the powerstuff. Not enough of a powergamer lol. I did buy a snazzy new ship tho.
Here’s some pictures of her. She’s a python and I love her.
That looks awesome. Can’t wait to give it a go when they release it on Xbone.
Lovely. Man, can’t wait to snag one of those in 3 years with the rate I make moneys. ;)

Well, eventually they will. You rarely ever see your ship like the shots I posted tho. Its a “debug” glory shot cam they unlocked because we just would not shut up about it on their forum. The game itself is played strictly from the pit.
The ship is a bit of a bummer in combat. I expected much tankiness but she feels softer than the vulture I’m coming from. That was all A rated tho, and this isnt. yet.
She weighs in at well over 300tons, and takes about 175 tons of cargo (or fuel, now that you can put fuel bladders in place of cargo racks!) and jumps just shy of 15 ly. That bit is A rated ;)
I tried doing trade runs for a bit but omg… so much work for so little money!

The vulture has some insane shields for it’s class, that’s for sure.
I heard it described as “elite : easy mode” and really, that’s what it is.
Hey, it still takes skill to pilot a Vulture effectively. :P
I’ve bought one of the new Diamondback Scouts to replace my Viper and it’s amazing. So much fun to fly. It’s incredibly agile, and very flexible in role. Check them out.
Is logging in, in the Launcher, required in order to play the game? I bought the game today and registered on their website, but neither the launcher nor the website will recognize the account I registered, including the Forgot Password feature.
Edit: Appears that the registration feature linked from the Launcher isn’t actually creating new accounts, or something. I worked around the issue by manually creating an account elsewhere on their site, linking it to my Steam account, and then entering my Steam Key. The launcher accepted my credentials after that.
Wow, this game is humbling. I can’t remember the last game that humiliated me more, in terms of mastering the controls. I’m using the keyboard and mouse, which is supposed to be OK, and I’m seriously struggling with combat. Specifically, keeping an enemy in my reticule and, when he gets behind me, rolling and pitching until he’s in front of me again, feels way more difficult than it should be. On the plus side, I did finish the target practice and basic combat tutorials, so maybe I’m learning.
Edit: finished the Skirmish tutorial, but barely understand how I did so. I think this is a case of muscle memory forming without a corresponding conscious understanding of what it is I’m actually learning.
Yaaaaaaay, keep at it, it’ll click soon enough!

How do you enable the debug and take the exterior shots? I thought i knew, but when i tried it didn’t do anything and so i figured i just had it wrong…
It’s the name of the competition FDEV ran the other month: ctrl-alt-space.
Hey Barstein, welcome aboard! Stick with it, it’s worth it. Learning to fly well is a huge part of what the game is all about.
You might want to try a joystick of some kind for directional control. Could be a Xbox gamepad but a sick is better.
If you ever get to pay hand on an oculus, a full on HOTAS set is the way to go.
