Definitely this. Keyboard + stick + oculus results in some rather unfortunate situations when you aren’t pressing the key you think you’re pressing.
Scroll down somewhere near the bottom of the keyboard control customization menu, you actually have to set the key you want it to, as IIRC it’s not set by default.

Well… this does take every ounce of patience and fortitude i have to stick with the python. I have been trying to make a buck in a community goal combat zone and getting my fucking ass kicked. This close to rageselling the boat and buying a vulture.
The Vulture is pretty much a pure death machine man, might as well.
In combat zones, I found the python’s lumbering maneuverability and relatively slow speed to be frustrating. On the other hand, with enough cash and a decent power supply, you can really tank the shields. Even with one less large weapon and lower shield strength, I definitely had more fun with the vulture for pure combat, and my python has been berthed for pure trade missions and community goals.

Ok, so I have not gotten to play this for a while, and it looks like in early April it was released on Steam. Is there a way to get a key for this if you had purchased in Jan?
Yes, you can redeem a Steam key from your Frontier store account page.

I still keep reading that the content of this game is just not there, and despite new patches and features they are simply not working on adding that content.
So? What’s the status of this game?

I started it in January, got hit by a frustrating bug, and then put it down for a while. A picked it back up a few weeks ago when a co-worker started playing.
I feel like it’s still light on content, and can be pretty grindy at times.
But despite all of that, there’s something still very neat about piloting a starship on your own through the universe. The place is huge, and I feel like I end up with a lot of interesting stories from it (especially when playing with a friend).
Not where, exactly?
I mean if you’re looking for that quintessential Elite-style experience of owning a ship and making your own way, this has it in spades. More is being added to flesh things out, but so far I’ve had dozens if not hundreds of hours of fun just doing Elite-style things.
They just added the optional power play element, so if you want to can do stuff for local powers. Or not, you can just tool around like you did before. It looks like they’re gonna add arena combat in the next major update, and we still have planetary landings coming.
So what exactly are you looking for?

I think part of it is expectation mismatch. Even when this game is totally finished, no more development, there’s not going to be much “content”. There’s never going to be a campaign in the traditional sense. There’s never going to be cut scenes. It’s always going to be a grind of “dynamic” missions based around ferrying cargo and mining asteroids and shooting bad guys. It’s Elite. What’s going to be added, hopefully, is flavour - planetary landings, ship boarding, a more involved economy, and better faction mechanics.
HRose doesn’t play games, he just likes to talk about them, usually in a critical way.
Overall, the game is in much better shape than it was on release in December. They’ve fixed and tweaked a lot of stuff and it feels really good to play, no major issues at all. The sound team are basically world champions IMO, they are peerless. The sound design has had a lot of work done (it’s always been great). It’s better-than-Hollywood good.
The ships added since release have rounded out the roster a bit, and the random ship spawner code is working well, delivering a nice stream of ships to any particular scenario. It’s still not nearly enough however, the game needs much more variety. I’d also like to see more ambient, context-specific traffic in systems, e.g, taxis, transports and bulk carriers moving between stations and populated planets.
Powerplay is a bit of a mixed bag. The overall idea and some of the implementation, particularly the galaxy map overlay and the new Galnet, are cool, but PP feels like a system awkwardly bolted on top of the existing game systems rather than elegantly dovetailing and integrating with them. It’s also a lot of very unrewarding grind with little financial return for a lot of effort, unless you really catass to get to and maintain the higher levels. I have a feeling they’ll be tweaking this heavily sooner rather than later. As it is, unless you’re absolutely going to commit to a power, it’s best NOT to pledge with one, as it makes you Fair Game in other power’s territory, with no comeback. You can be attacked by that power’s supporters and if you shoot back, YOU will be committing a crime. This is a big downside for a casual pledger as it makes most of inhabited space more dangerous for you.
Oh, and the mission system rework is very welcome too. Bounty hunters can have a lot of fun and make money with missions, hunting in supercruise and USS as well as RES sites and Nav Beacons.
BTW - the bug affecting the stream spawning of ships and making them all < Novice in an instance has been fixed with today’s update. Glory be.

You know one thing these guys could really improve, and it’s a simple thing? The control configuration screen. Dear GOD, what a mess. It’s just… everything piled into one extremely long and haphazardly ordered list of every control in the game. For the love of all things spacey, can we please get a tabbed configuration screen so I don’t have to scroll all 367 controls to get to the one I want?
Also a bookmarks tab for the Galaxy map. I so shouldn’t have to have a notepad in cockpit in 3301.
Just bought this on “early access” for Xbox One, so I finally get to play this! Working my way through the training missions now.
Ohhhh, how’s it playing for you on the Xbox so far? Are you finding it accessible?
