FA gets turned off very briefly when doing a quick maneuver. No way I’d want to fly with FA off all the time.

I haven’t purchased Elite (yet) so I don’t know how feasible this is, but I prefer to set up custom bindings through whatever software utility is provided by the hardware manufacturer if possible. Makes it easier to preserve those customizations for the future, as I only need to back up a single file or folder for all my games.

I don’t see why you can’t do both, but you’d have to set them up in your software and then in elite to make the most of it, I think. You liiiiikely could set up most default things in your software, but you’d still have to set up axis and stuff in Elite, I think.

Oh yeah, so last night I did my first interdiction. Flew down to the control system of a rival power, interdicted one of their transports and murdered it. SO FUN. Take that Delaine, you’ll never be Ron Pearlman no matter how hard you try.

At least for the X-52, there were some conflicts between the Saitek software and the in-game bindings, though they weren’t insurmountable (you just lost the use of a shift button, as I recall).

Guys, GUYS. The folks behind the Voice Attack-powered voice packs have released a teaser for their upcoming Brian Blessed pack.

AND IT IS GLORIOUS.

A Rick and Morty announcer pack for DotA and a Brian Blessed pack for Elite? Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive!

“Gordon’s Alive!?” - i do hope so ;)

Trading update from Frontier today:

The Board continues to be pleased with the progress of Elite: Dangerous to date. Total paid unit sales are currently in excess of 640,000.

As a result, Frontier more than doubled headline revenue for the full year to over £22m and expects to report an operating profit of over £1.25m (unaudited). Net cash balances increased to £10.5m at 31 May 2015.

I use FA to get turning room when flying F-104 wannabees like the Viper. Pour on the speed, FA off, throttle down to keep velocity vector constant pre-FA, spin to face opponent, FA on, throttle firewalled.

It’s basically for jousting-style combat, which is what the Viper does best.

So, I ended up taking part in the exploration-based community goal that just ended. It was fun to have a shared goal, but some things weren’t so fun:

  • Practically impossible to learn about the goal in the first place, unless you’re on the forums
  • Really encourages people to grind, which E:D already has in spades.
  • This goal just cared about system scans - there was no point in scanning different planets.
  • Poorly defined metrics for the various tiers: The progress bar didn’t really tell us how many actual reports we needed, which made it hard to know the actual amount.

I’m still having fun with the game, but I’m going to be taking a break from exploration for a bit.

It shows up on the news thingie i thought.

I knew nothing about any community goal. Were there fabulous prizes?

12 million credits and one of David Braben’s sweaters.

Damn, I feel I missed out now.

Supposedly it does - but it shows up as a news item, and then you have to fly to the station in question to “accept” the mission. I usually ignore the news feed, since it rarely has much of an impact on the game.

So, if you went to Goldstein Port in the Lembava system, you could accept a special mission. Once accepted, all the exploration data you turned in at the Lembava station went toward a community goal, which paid out pretty well. The payout changed as the total number of reports went up. We made it to Tier 6 (and were very close to Tier 7), which had the following payouts:

Current Global Reward: FSD Discount (10%)(14 Days)

Current Participation Rewards:
Top 5%: 15,0000,000 Cr + global awards
Top 15%: 6,000,000 Cr + global awards
Top 40%: 4,500,000 Cr + global awards
Top 70%: 3,000,000 Cr + global awards
Top 100%: 175,000 Cr + global awards

It turned out you just needed to turn in the system scans (ie, the “foghorn”), and didn’t have to actually scan any of the planets.

Ah. I guess that’s kinda cool, but had I known about it I’m not sure I would’ve bothered. If it was in the same neck of the spacewoods as I am I’d probably foghorn once just for the low hanging fruit and call it done.

Haven’t been doing much Elite lately anyway. All Elite playing friends have been otherwise occupied so I’ve been alone. Floating around 6 million credits now. Was considering buying a vulture for better RES bounty hunting but considering almost all of that 6 million was made by RES bounty hunting I largely stopped giving a shit. I tried doing a rare commodities trade run in my cobra which didn’t particularly seem worth it. It’s more hands-on than something that dull really should be, since you have to stop at a bunch of podunk space stations to load up on gimgaws, then line up and hit the J key 15 times to get 200ish lightyears away, then dump the cargo for 700k profit which sounds good until you remember how much time you spent getting to that payday.

Then I stared at a type 6 which is the biggest freighter I can afford, and figured it would run me about 1.7 million to buy and equip how I’d want to trade, then a trade route would net me about 276k credits profit round-trip for a single hop route, so say 7 round trips just to pay off what I spent to get the type 6 and I mothballed that idea. In kind of a gaming funk lately anyway, and trying to get space-rich so I can play around with weird loadouts was wiping me out.

I’m currently space trucking for community goals in my python. It will take stupidly huge amounts of money to be a true fighting vessel. In the meantime I really want one of them imperial courier thingamies for pewpew to offset the space trucking boredom. Should be cheap enough.

I think my imperial courier was cheaper to buy and fully load out than it cost to A-rated my cobra, back in the day.

There is the problem of farming imperial rep for it tho.

If you have the credits to burn, go to the Tamar or Aymifa systems and just do the charity missions for the Empire-allied factions there, where you just donate credits, until you get the Imperial rank for the ship (rank 3, or Master). Supposedly those systems generate a lot of them.
