I haven’t, but the pulse lasers should have decent uptime because that hinges entirely on the power distributor. And if they didn’t you could certainly replace one with a frag cannon or what have you.

This is what I’m flying at the moment. http://coriolis.io/outfit/vulture/04A5A4C3D5A4D3C1e1e00040n-4a35f2-68.AwRj4zyA.Aw19kA==

Edit: Although it is worth keeping in mind that Coriolis’ numbers aren’t datamined and set in stone in the game or anything. For example I know the speed ratings for my vulture are completely wrong since it moves and boosts much faster than that (Especially since according to Coriolis a fer-de-lance is faster than a vulture, but I was overtaking one I interdicted relatively easy earlier). It’s entirely possible the shield numbers are out of whack too, but by and large it seems accurate.

Some pictures, since schurem gave me the secret to the external camera:

Explorer-hauler at the most interesting system I ran into on my brief exploration trip, a super-close binary pair.

Explorer-hauler is now sold for an Adder-explorer, which can be a lot more effective a lot more safely.

Crimson Eagle:

I have a lot of money sunk into it, for an Eagle. In my bounty hunting, I’ve encountered only one thing I can’t reliably kill when it’s flown by an NPC (leaving aside super-heavy things I just won’t tangle with): the Imperial Clipper. They’re usually fit with gimballed weapons, and they have enough pitch maneuverability that I have a hard time staying out of the way of the way. That much laser and multicannon picks me apart very quickly.

Right now, I have a presumably-standard pulse laser and gimbal multicannon fit. I experimented with pulse+cannon, but found that the cannon’s optimal engagement profile is sufficiently far from the pulse lasers’ that I just went back. I might try something like a tri-cannon loadout sometime down the line, maybe even fixed. If I can be effective with that, I can bump the protection a little more.

I finally caved in and bought a copy during the Steam weekend sale.

Question: if I complete a smuggling mission without getting scanned, are there any negative consequences to my reputation? The mission screens seem vague on exactly what is happening reputation-wise. Right now these missions seem like the best way to earn quick credits, but I don’t want to harm my reps until I have a better handle on what I want to do long-term.

@J Thomas

I don’t know the real answer to your question, but I’ve always assumed that you wouldn’t get negative rep with the faction running a station if they never caught you or fined you, but the rep with the faction you’re smuggling for would go up (and presumably that faction’s influence in the station and system as well).

I’m totally getting this… at some point in the future.

I bought it this past weekend - Callsign: LordPolish

Getting my feet wet little by little. Nice to have a reason to break out the old Sidewinder force feedback 2.

Yessssssssssssssssssssssss. Such a wonderful stick. See you in game, and welcome!

Not sure for how long, but on account of some in-game lore reasons, the imperial anteater–I mean–courier and imperial clipper ships can now be purchased if you have just one naval rank with the empire.

Yes! Serve the Emperor above All Others!

And I just worked my fucking ASS off for that courier thingamie

Heading to Shinrarta ASAP to downgrade the python and put a clipper in the hangar. Because I am NOT grinding that fucking empire navy no more. Fuck 'em!

Wow, so maybe now is a good time to jump back in and try to get that one naval rank with the empire.

Not that I’d have the money to buy that ship anyway though. How much do the Imperiar Courier and Imperial Clipper ships cost?

The clipper is in the 20+ Million range.

The courier is just about two million tho

Wow, I’ve been eyeing the courier! Of course, this is right after I just dropped a ton of credits on my Vulture. It’s a great killing machine, but it’s so slow!

If I remember right, the Courier is in the 2.5m range. coriolis.io has the prices on the front page.

After another death and a third narrow escape last night, I finally worked out how to beat NPC Imperial Clippers in my Eagle—exploit the Clipper’s relatively poor yaw and roll. If the fight doesn’t devolve into a close-in battle, I run; otherwise, I make it my goal to stay within about 600 meters. (Conveniently, that’s about the effective range for the gimballed cannon, against medium-large targets.) I need to use up-translational thrusters to pull onto target, usually, so I’m tracing a very small circle inside the Clipper’s larger one. When it looks like he’s going to bear on me, I either flip to down-translational thrusters to push me into a lag pursuit, or use the side thrusters with some roll and a little bit of back thrust to spin our concentric circles ninety degrees from the starting orientation.

I’m really glad my throttle has a little thumbstick. I mapped that to the up/down and sideways translation axes, and it’s been helpful in tight fights and around asteroids.

Next on my list, once the Eagle is fully kitted out (a few nights of bounty hunting from now): build out the Addexplorerer, or save for a Lakon-T6 for some space trucking.

Hey, is that exploration project still going? The one where they are trying to map the whole galaxy?

Is that even possible? I think the number of stars in the game has been said to be 100 billion or so. Let’s say that on average there are 5 stars per system. In that case, it would take 1 million players each scanning 20,000 systems to fully map the whole galaxy. For comparison, I’ve done a fair bit of exploration in the game since December, and it’s telling me I’ve visited less than 3000 systems. At that rate, it could be a while.

There was a scanning based community goal, but that’s over now.

Nice. I had been ranking up a bit with the imperials to grab their ships eventually so that makes it easier. Will have to do a hair more killing to pick up a clipper since I just dumped millions more in to my vulture and I’m not gonna trade it in yet, but I’ll definitely make sure to grab both a clipper and a courier while the getting’s good. Just buy them stock and park them somewhere until I’m ready/inclined to fit them so I don’t have to deal with empire rank later.

Welllll fuck, I just found out merit vouchers do NOT carry over week over week, so if you don’t turn 'em in, you lose 'em. I had 300+ from last week’s undermining adventure, but hadn’t yet had the time to hop 100+ LY back to a control system to turn them in. Now, they’re all gone. This might’ve just killed PowerPlay for me, as I don’t have the time to maintain that kind of thing.
