Let me tell you, bounty hunting in the Eagle gets tense. “Four… three… two… one…” is not a welcome sound when it’s describing your hull state as you’re winding up for a jump.

On the plus side, I upgraded the trading Adder into a trading Cobra with the narrowly-won proceeds, doubling my cargo capacity. With the chaff launcher, I’ll be able to smuggle a little better, too.

I got a ticket to FDEVs private gamescom party. Will report all the hype and info! Brian, you are press, right? Could you deputise me so I can get a press pass? :D

Huh, lemme look into that.

Well, some news filtered out today, as there are three new ships that should drop sometime in the next few weeks: the imperial eagle (similar to the current eagle but faster in a straight line), the federal dropship mk.II, and the federal gunship (with 2 small, 4 medium, and 1 large hardpoint).

Links? Pix?

Imperial Eagle:

Hmmm. Not sure I’m happy with their filling out the promised 30 ships with variants of the existing hulls. I definitely like the idea of variants, but I would have expected that to come afterwards.

Bought an Adder last night, stripped it down, then stuffed it with engines and fuel tanks and stuff to get a 19.5 LY jump radius. Then wandered over to join the many who have climbed Mt. Betelgeuse. Wow, that’s a big star. Very interesting scanning a planet close-up simultaneously fuel scooping :) Got a few initial discoveries on the way back, including some planets in a system designed to kill interlopers (trinary star system with a close binary, when jumping in you miss the first star but pretty much land SMACK DAB in the 2nd. Butthole pucker time trying to accelerate from that one!)

I hope they have some sort of “alien biology” minigame. In STO, they used to have a minigame where you’d land on planets and do scans. It wasn’t as well done as it could have been, but it showed promise, and it showed how immersive that could be.

It would be interesting for the developers too, as they could get into alien biology possibilities.

I’m not supposed to tell, but I know you guys will keep quiet - Bioware has agreed to lend them their Mako module, enabling you to drive on EVERY SINGLE PLANET IN THE GALAXY in a Mako-style vehicle. Of course, most planets look the same, but thats just like in real life - it will be glorious!

From today’s dev update, it looks like mission types will finally get a little more love:

I’m kinda parked in orbit until they announce whatever it is they’ve got up their sleeve at Gamescon. CQC has no appeal to me and Power Play fell flat, so I’m waiting to see if they have something cool to rekindle my interest.

Anyone have any ideas as to what they might be announcing?

Total guess, but I’m thinking Thargoids and their ships.

Think they mentioned at Lavecon that Thargoids are way off. The most likely candidate for Gamescon is planetary landings, or at least the initial stages of it. Even if it’s just landing on rocky worlds/moons and dropping mining rigs, that would be a great start.

this. and i am so stoked for that!

Braben has tweeted a pic of the scale model Cobra clearly landed on a surface at Gamescom. Is this a hint?!

Squee!

Have they announced the time of the, err … announcement?

AAHHHHHHH

I don’t understand. Do you need me to check your tonsils or something?

It’s tomorrow at 3pm local time I believe.
