So the beers are on Brian then. ;)
Did you sell them back to RSI or privately?
Well no, I just wanted to sell the others as well. I’m keeping the Freelancer from my initial pledge though.

There is going to be a Star Citizen presentation tomorrow (iirc) most probably showing live gameplay of multicrewing and large (double precision or what-not) maps. I know you don’t like the flight mechanics (neither do I), but might be a good idea to wait and see how that looks first. Also that’s a lot of parentheses in one post.

I think I’ve read people saying both these things, so I’m unsure myself as well.
Here’s a decent Horizons Q&A with Michael Brookes on the expansion’s scope and availability and such.

There is also this development post regarding Horizons. Also saw a post on reddit saying we’ll see gameplay footage next week.
Oh, I’m still in, and still have my Freelancer, I just don’t think I need the other ships.
While I don’t begrudge anyone from liking this game, it’s just not for me. I don’t believe I’ve gotten my pledge amount’s worth from the base game. There’s no way I’m buying an expansion.
That said, I don’t see any reason for outrage over the pricing or the scheme of selling “seasonal” content though expansions.
I think the word “season” has some negative connotations, and I kinda wish they’d avoided that. I also wish they had a “Horizons Only” package so folks who already own the base game would stop their bitching. ;)
“Seasonal” wasn’t great phrasing, but I get why they avoided “annual” or “yearly.” That’s a little too evocative of a subscription, even if that’s essentially the plan.
There are two more large content and feature drops - 1.4 “CQC” and 1.5 “Ships” with everything they include on top of what’s already there before they call the base game / Season 1 done, and there will still be essential upgrades down the line. It’s been frustrating waiting to see them fulfil their obligations to backers and existing players (especially the ship count), but now I’m happy that there’s a timeline for that and for delivering some value for my expansion pass. Once 1.5 is in, I think E:D will be in an excellent state and they will have more than delivered on my expectations prior to any expansion.
Kvetching cats have obviously not run out of kvetch.
FD have done nothing to prevent me from throwing more money their way to give me the opportunity to slam into cumulogranite clouds.
I just wish that I could launch Kerbals off of these panets.
Oh, wow. I completely misunderstood the issue!
So, it’s $60 for the expansion and base game for new players, but old players get a $15 discount, effectively paying a lot more overall?
That’s the same issue Guild Wars: Heart of Thorns and Destiny: The Taken King have.
It’s getting more common. That doesn’t sound good.

The Heart of Thorns issue was that there was no discount for existing customers, initially, at least from what I recall.
As long as there’s a decent discount, I don’t mind. I mean, saying original players are “effectively paying a lot more” is true and one way of looking at it, but the other is that original players have been getting a lot of mileage out of their $60 purchase over the last year.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter to me. It all just comes down to one equation: Does the content look good enough for the asking price? Jury is still out on that for me, but I don’t have any problems with them offering Horizons as an expandalone with a discount for existing customers.
I’m personally unaffected by the issue. I already declared that I wouldn’t buy any expansion for the game, because I didn’t even like what I got in the base game.
I was just commenting on the fact that I originally misunderstood why people were angry about the expansion’s price. I just thought people were upset about the dollar amount. I didn’t know about the bit where new players get the whole thing for $60, while owners of the base game would have to pay $45 on top of whatever they paid for the game already.
As for the comparison to other games, this is an issue that MMOs have had for years. At some point, you have to give new players older content when they purchase whatever is current or you risk driving them away with the pricing. Imagine if you had to buy WoW and pay for each expansion now as a new player.
Yeah, I don’t have a problem with the pricing, really. The “all in one” package is hopefully great for bringing new players in, and existing players get a discount and an exclusive ship. To ME it seems reasonable, but what do I know?
They really want to push the game as premium no matter what tier you buy, and to some extent they can because there are no other cutting edge space sims out there right now that come close to Elite. It’s more than worth the price as-is, and rewards time spent within it. They could have been more generous to existing players in the discount on the expansion and the temporary sale on the lifetime pass.
Yeah, I think that’s the rub, lots of folks feel like the discounts aren’t enough. They also don’t advertise that the discount you get on horizons also applies to the lifetime pass too, so it’s $180, not $195 for existing players. They REALLY have some issues with communications…

That’s more BAD news.
So, rocky planets isn’t “phase 1” of Horizon, it’s what you get and that’s it. For more types of planets you’ll have to pay again:
…Planetary landings will split over at least two expansions then. People had generally assumed SPL would be one expansion up until now.
We’ve always said that we’d come at it in stages - it’s a massive amount of development!
But the worse thing is that it isn’t basically a yearly subscription as we thought, it’s 6 months. So they expect $45 every 6 months to get the updates:
What time scale determines a “season” in regards to this? 3 months or a full year?
What we’ve done this year so far (and including 1.4) is about a season.
I’m baffled they think this is a feasible business model. $90 every year is way too much for what they offer.
Besides, you can skip this crappy season, wait 6 months and get both of them plus the full game. It’s a model that actively punishes those who beta test the new features. You really can’t wait 6 months to land on those rocky planets?
If this game also had a monthly subscription, then maybe, MAYBE, I might get behind your ever-present doom and gloom scenario, HRose.
As it is, I would gladly pay what amounts to $7.50 a month for the amount of enjoyment I’ve gotten out of this game, and I’m sure I’m far from alone. If your math is right, but it isn’t.
8 months for “about” a season isn’t 6 months, the game came out in December silly. There are also two more major patches coming, 1.4 and 1.5, that will constitute season one as a whole. Horizons (seasons 2) drops around a year after the 1.0 release. So let’s say that’s $60 a year with one season a yearish, or $5 a month. Without a subscription model, that’s not bad, at least in my opinion.
So…you don’t like the game (I can’t recall, do you even own or play it?) and you don’t like their business model so…why are you here? In the vain hope that someone might believe you so you can go “HA HA, I’m right!” for a few seconds? I mean you have nothing constructive to add to this thread except shit you’re blowing out of your ass about how this game is awful and doomed and so forth, it seems.
So, again, I’ll ask. Why are you here?
