I think that if you bought now, you’d get a 25% discount when buying the expansion, at least it you pre-ordered it.* But the expansion comes with the base game anyway, so in your shoes I’d wait.
*At least that’s the discount they’re saying that we current owners get it we pre-order.

I wonder if flying my Viper will be like riding a bike. I haven’t played in probably 6 months or so, but may install it on my new rig today and take it for a spin. I wonder if it will come back quickly or will I start getting blown up right away and/or crashing into stations, heh.

I’m not clear on whether you get “access” to the Cobra Mk 4 (and still have to pay for it with in-game credits) or whether one just shows up parked somewhere like the “Freagle” did for beta backers. Does anyone know the skinny?

Also, it’s 27 bucks on Steam right now (were you just exaggerating for effect, there?), then presumably $45 if you pre-order the expansion, for a total of $72 (and I’m not even sure the pre-order discount for Horizons applies if you bought it on the Steam store, unless that automatically gives you a Frontier store key).

The Cobra Mk 4 will only be available to those who already own Elite Dangerous (i.e. Season 1) and who preorder Horizons, but will have to be bought by the player. So anyone who has the game and preorders Horizons will get it, but nobody else going forward from the initial Horizons release. I guess it will only stay exclusive for a limited time, possibly a year perhaps.

The Viper Mk 4 will be available as part of the 1.5 Ships update (which has now been merged with the initial Horizons release so everybody gets something new at the same time). The Viper Mk 4 will be the free ship in hanger for players who are owed one from being a Kickstarter or beta level backer, similar to the Freagle.
