Some nice bits about planetary landings in today’s newsletter.
Although I generally keep to myself in Elite (though playing Open), I love the odd bits of emergent gameplay that come out of a multiplayer environment. Such as the Fuel Rats – a team of pilots who make it their mission to rescue stranded pilots. Here’s a nice video (from a CMDR with an amazing radio-ready voice) on the occasion of their 2,000th rescue.
Just as a note to those who may still be considering buying the Xbox One version: please note that the final release is this Friday, October 6. Up until that point, the game is still in preview and can be bought for $30.99, but on release date full pricing goes into effect and will cost $37.49. Not a huge amount, but worth pointing out again I figure.

Just remember - We have fuel, you don’t.
that is really cool.

Sounds like you got to make up your own story. Come on man! Where’s your imagination? Does everything have to be spoon fed to you?
I spent some time puttering around. I’ve ditched my cargo hold for a fuel scoop, so I’m just looking for discoverable objects and running small courier missions.
About 5 times out of 6 I can get refueled without overheating my ship, I’m getting decent at dodging interdictors, and the only time I went to look at a contact I found 4 enemy ships and ended up getting clear at 25% hull.

New game: See what finishes first, server maintenance on Frontier’s servers before the new patch goes live, or a proper read of the 1.4 CQC changelog.
Fixed high ranked AI ships not being able to fire due to empty WEP capacitor!
This should have been hotfixed a lot sooner.
Updated Pluto and Charon to use rocky template rather than icy
I guess there isn’t a “mashed together KBOs” template
Still a pretty nice fix list, though. I could care less about the CQB bollox, but the new hazardous areas should at least liven things up.

I jumped into a couple of hazardous RES sites while mucking about in the CQC beta, and it is exactly what you want from a bounty hunting RES site, only without the annoyance of having to reset the instance until you get one you’re happy with.
Do you actually need to group for that one or is it doable solo?
Explorers might want to tread carefully for a day or so. Frontier have mentioned exploration data is being migrated and there maybe “discrepancies” but have been strangely evasive about what this actually means , should we stop exploring? Sell? Dont sell? Weird statements and a pretty big deal if you are out in deep space with a million credits in exploration data.
edit reddit saying folks have lost recent data. This would piss me off mightily as I have been doing a ton of exploring the past two evenings.

I was fine solo flying my space murder machine (aka vulture), just be prepared to boogie at the drop of a hat.
Thanks for the heads up, as I’m doing a little sight-seeing myself at the moment. Hopefully the issues will be cleared up by tomorrow when I expect to dock.
Did just run across my first “salvageable wreck” while scanning around 7 Trianguli. Dropped into it to find a “small survey data cache (stolen)” floating amongst some space litter. Probably just something to sell on some black market, but still a little cool.
Two steps forward, one step back with the update I think. Did some extraction site bounty hunting last night.
Good stuff:
The hitch/stutter I was getting in asteroid fields (which was happening even though I’m on a pretty robust system with crazy good fps) seems much smoothed out.
Asteroid fields look much better. No more band of white rocks in the distance.
Little graphical and audio tweeks everywhere (on top of an already beautiful-looking and sounding game).
NPC’s seem a bit more viable in combat. Also, a bit more variety (i.e. encountered a wanted Anaconda at a low intensity extraction site).
PLanetary graphics looking even better. Maybe some prep for Horizons?
Not so good:
I’ve never seen NPC’s bumping into asteroids before, and I saw it perhaps five times over an hour. A couple of my bounties managed to kill themselves by hugging asteroids.
Couple of minor irritating audio effects, such as a “plop” sound which is apparently keyed to the little extraction robots gathering up rocks. It’s louder than just about any other background noises at extraction sites.
Some complaints on the board about interdictions now heavily favoring the interdictee, to the point where you fail even if you perfectly ride the blue circle. Hopefully it’ll get tweaked.
I seem to have a problem with anti-aliasing. Haven’t investigated yet.
And some other nuisances. A lot of it, such as the interdictions, seems to be the result of Frontier doing some balancing by pushing the dial too far in the other direction. The good news is that they are great about post-update support and we’ll see some patches in the next few days to iron out the bumps.
Bring on Horizons, I say. Can’t wait.

I’m going to pick up Horizons but I think I am going to wait until I get a SteamVR headset before really diving back in. Can’t wait to experience the game like that, and having a whole new expansion to play with seems to be an opportune time to dive into VR!
Love that shot, nice! I am steering clear of the latest update for a few days. Explorers are noting some significant data problems still so I am gonna let Frontier wade through that until I dive back in. Also it seems likely they will dial back the interdiction problems they just introduced, no way do I want to get ganked returning to civilisation in an unarmed ship stuffed to the gills with data :)

Steam users beware. There is a bug that breaks the mouse cursor usage. This turns out to be a STEAM bug.

Word seems to be it should be fixed soon.

I have been making a metric crapton of money from powerplay since i made rank 5. I made that rank by doing the privateer thing; interdicting rival power ships in one of their systems.
Im afraid that well is drying up. Interdiction has become #&&£@ing hard. And damages the ship a lot more. Making the amount of kills necessary to maintain rank may no longer be feasible.
Oh man, that sucks, I was having a ton of fun interdicting.
