Well that got me up to about 10 mil, I wasn’t in Open but I still got interdicted a few dozen times on the way. So do I trick out my DBS or upgrade to something else? What’s the next step after the DBD?

I haven’t had the stomach for the crazy long journeys --according to my stats I’ve never gone farther than 200 LY from the system I started in [Aiabiko] during the preview or whatever it was called in late November (basically the last time they reset all the beta people), so I’ve been picking up 300k/400k/500k smuggling missions that take me at most a few hops away. Today I did one into a regular station, and man was that nerve racking. Luckily in a Cobra you can dart in there pretty quickly and you’re unlikely to get scanned if you don’t dawdle.

I’m doing Sothis purely Solo only. Of course I play the rest of the game that way too.

It’s unfortunate that I seem to have caught something and am too sick to run any missions tonight. Sigh.

Class 3 shields, a 32t fueltank in the class 5 slot and an 8t tank in one of the class 3 slots. The rest can be cargo.

Like this for example.

So, based on how I like to play it looks like I should save up and try to get into a Vulture next. Those things sound amazing.

Any idea on how much I should have saved up before I go searching for a place to buy one and kit it out decently enough to be combat ready in combat zones? What are people using for the 2x large hardpoints? Some type of laser? Actually, if anyone has a link handy on a top end Vulture build, that would be great! I can most likely determine which order of upgrades to do myself based on experience, but I want an idea on total cost before I go looking :).

I expected to wake up this morning and be back down to 40% on the new CG in Tabaldak, but was still in the top 15% contribution tier with 3.244 million on bonds over my 20 runs (I have data on my progress, % ranking, and total progress written down if anyone is interested). I almost doubled my net worth just with those bonds this weekend. I forgot how much fun combat was in this game.

I have had a bit better luck joining Open Play for the combat zones and while I may lose a few bonds to other commanders in the zone, I have to jump out far less often and go back to station for repairs so it is improved progress overall, I believe.

I am also trying to catch up a bit on this thread while I was away and have been reading about this new Powerplay feature? Anyone have a link to where I can read up on how that works or have any advice? I am wondering if I should consider doing that or just stick with this CG for the next week or two.

So I’m also looking at jumping into a Vulture after my successful Sothis run. I was checking out coriolis.io and messing around with some Vulture builds and it looks like for around 10 mil you can get it functional if not quite A spec on everything. I’m right there now but that doesn’t leave me any reserve so I might leave a mil or two in the bank after outfitting and run the CG in Tabaldak. Looking at the boards I think most people are either fitting 2 C3 pulse lasers or a C3 laser and a C3 multi-cannon.

Am I the only guy who just builds up a new ship over time? I just make sure I have enough to pay off insurance, and if it isn’t completely combat capable at first I keep to the extraction sites instead of combat zones. I like the fun of trading in some bounties and going shopping – and seeing my new ride slowly improve gives me more of a chance to enjoy it before I move onto the next one.

Yeah that’s what I usually do as well. In this case I want to be able to take on some large ships for the CG so I’m trying to be more fully outfitted from the start. Even so with only 10 mil my Vulture won’t be able to afford most A class stuff or the 3C weapons, so I’ll still have some shopping to do:)

Once I can afford to buy a Vulture and keep my Viper, I may try one out with a low cost build just for testing and slowly build one up like I did with my Viper. I will have to see if I can make it work, though :). I will check out the coriolis.io site.

I wonder if this would work for a start:

A little over 8.5 million.

I would prob add 200k and switch one beam to a cannon :).

I’m going to try to get to Sothis also. I found this guide on Reddit, because I’m lazy. It hasa buildout for an Asp also.

But… I can’t afford an Asp. I have very little cash (233K cr) and a lowly Cobra with just a 10.8 LY jump range. Is getting to Sothis even possible? Is like 666LY away.

Good question. I am afraid I can’t answer that, but I do know a Cobra can reach a 20+ jump range if you can fit a better FSD. I believe even a C version should get you near 14-15? I am not sure if you can fit that in with your cash flow and have enough for insurance, though.

Yeah, I can dump my weapons and such and upgrade FSD and probably get to 20LY or so. Or, just switch to a Hauler, which is cheap. Thanks.

Tylertoo, I got to Sothis and back in a stripped down DBS that had 13LY jump range. Had to remove the shields and some of the weapons which made getting interdicted interesting! It took me roughly 4.5 hours for the round trip and 3 missions netted me a little over 9 mil so I’ll leave it up to you to decide if that’s worth it or not. Just be aware that there might not be any lucrative missions you qualify for when you arrive so be prepared to wait for a reset of missions if that happens.

Kelan, that build looks good I might use that! Although power management might be an issue with that 4C plant. I might shell out for the 4A or mess with the weapons a bit to see if I can get the power req’s down

omg, i just kinda almost had a fit there…thinking that you could jump 430 ly and wondering why i was exploring the galaxy in 27 ly increments…

Remember with the Vulture, you cannot A-spec everything, and its inflexibility is the balance to its many advantages. Protip: C class thrusters are more than adequate, you really don’t need to go A. This is my bounty hunting build.

Thanks. I actually traded in my Cobra for a Hauler and upgraded components for long distance travel. Now I have about a 22ly jump range, and can get to Sothis in about 24 jumps.

I just need to figure out how to use a fuel scoop. Never done that before.

Fuel scoop is actually pretty easy. It’s automatic once you get close enough, you can actually just park it and let it run just watch your heat level.

I’ve fully outfitted my Asp and am over 100 million liquid credits so far. I think a couple more trips is good enough. I’m starting to feel kind of bad about doing this.

Then I look at the ship prices and I feel less bad.

Have you started enjoying the game yet now that you’re out of the Cobra? Money does buy happiness after all? ;)
