I’m still in my Cobra pottering about. Love it. I’m eyeing off the Type-6, and then the Asp. I’m playing fairly casually, really waiting until the mining disconnects are fixed, and I also don’t want to get too far down the ship tree before Horizons lands.
The Cobra is my most flown ship in thegamethe game, great stuff. Don’t be in a rush to get rid of it. ;-) Really enjoying the Asp too, though.
I think I’m just going to legit trade my way up to wherever I’m going. I’m up to Entrepreneur trade rank and Federation Midshipman rank from all this smuggling. Maybe take a look at the Federation ships, but I think trips to Sothis/the fringes are over for me. It’s mind-numbing at this point. To be fair, I profited greatly, and enough things opened up for me that I can grab some well paying one jump trade missions now.
It might have been a grey area but I think the Sothis thing was a great deal for newer players to get some cold, hard credits.
Is anyone else having issues with frameshift jumps taking a really long time? Usually I’m in hyperspace (or whatever) for 10-15 seconds at a time but today I’m sitting in hyperspace for minutes at a time. Makes jumping back to Tabaldak really annoying
Hey Brian, did you ever get some good smuggling missions from the BB at wherever it is in Sothis (when we were on voice comms you didn’t find any when you finally arrived)?

I’m on my way to the Fehu system now (also in the galactic sticks, but closer to Empire space).
If you play in a Private Group consisting of just yourself (same as Solo Play), that will go away. It’s a Solo-Open thing, it appears.
I only encountered one extra long hyper jump, and that was yesterday. I was playing in the Mobius group the whole time.
Yes! I thought I was doing something wrong. Had to crash the game a few times to get out of it. Glad to know it wasn’t me.
And yes, I was playing Solo.
I spent way too much money on a Python, but it’s well-equipped to shoot things. It sure does. But with that 5 million insurance hit on it, I like to keep it in the hangar and just touch it.

I have something of a love/hate relationship with the python. I’m happy to use it for a trade ship when I feel like trading, and it’s an excellent ship for mining–the mining lasers go on the medium hardpoints, and even with a refinery, prospector limpet controller and 2 collector limpet controllers, you can still exceed 200 cargo space. But in combat with small ships, it wallows like a sow in mud.
About the only thing that comes close to a solution (for me) for this is to stick some turrets on the medium hardpoints, and use them solely for those ships that like to force you into turning battles. (Turrets in congested areas like RES sites will often get you fined for hitting the wrong target.) Hmmm… Given that CZs are now “lawless” and friendly fire incidents there are ignored, I’d strongly consider bringing a python with turrets to a combat zone, if I didn’t prefer flying the more nimble ships.
Has anyone heard a voice, on the PA system in a station, that sounds suspiciously like that of the film director Werner Herzog? I heard one the other day that sounded a lot like him, and he’s popped up in so many strange places of late (Parks and Recreation, Rick and Morty) that I wonder if he agreed to do a cameo there.
There’s also a Japanese-sounding lady that I also heard for the first time recently, but not anyone recognizable.

I had a good night on the CZ in Tabaldak last night. My 4 runs netted me about 1.3 million in bonds which is really good for me. I see the current 15% reward is now at 2 mil, so that will be nice if I can keep it up. I would think it should hit rank 2 at least (which would be a 4 mil payout probably), but that the final victory condition may be out of reach within the time frame. I should be able to get into a Vulture by then if not sooner.
Are you still planning to get a wing doing this week sometime conVurt? Which day(s) were you thinking and what time frame? We are both in MI so same time zone, but I tend to go to bed early because I get up so early although I can probably push it to 9pm if that works best.
How do the bonds work with wings? Do you share the bonds as a group that anyone manages to get in the CZ? Is the in game voice chat good enough to use now?

There are going to be some teething pains getting the wing set up I’m sure, but if my headset still works, voice chat should be fine. Can do tonight if anyone wants to give it a try, say from 6pm EST. In general, I should be around any evening except Wednesdays.
I believe combat bonds are split between wing members who contribute to a kill, just like bounties are. Or at least that was the case a few patches ago when I last winged up.
Based on the other current combat CGs which have reached Tier 2, the payout schedule for Tabaldak reachinig Tier 2 will probably look like this:
5% -> 12M
15% -> 8M
40% -> 4M
70% -> 2.5M
100% -> 0.5M
I don’t really see any of them reaching Tier 3, to be honest.

Are you also CMDR CONVURT? I am not sure if I was still playing at the time and have you as a friend yet. Do you mostly play open, Mobius or Veloxi group? We could pick one to use for these hunts.
Can forget about Sothis now. Long range smuggling nerf has appeared, according to Reddit.
Bloody hell I upgraded my fuel scoop to the best. I never realized you could refill ships this quick. Whoooooo!
Looks like the Sothis runs have been nerfed due to making the missions appear far less frequently. Ah well, I was only to able to get one in, but it was fun.

I’m just CMDR VURT in-game. I’ll just start up a private group under VURT tonight when I can fire up the game. If anyone is interested in joining tonight or any other time this week, friend me and we’ll wing up. My general plan is to be in Tabaldak for the week taking out ships belonging to Emperor’s Dawn, as per the community goal offered by Rogers Dock.
Is it just Sothis or is it game-wide? Because Sothis is right next door to Ceos… Also from what I’ve read, any of the inhabited systems leading out to Sothis will also work in general. Also, there are non-smuggling, long range delivery missions too, which may be exempt from the nerf. And to be fair, even with the nerf, Sothis might be “good enough”, just maybe not as lucrative as it was. If you can make 5-10M CR in a couple of hours instead of 20-30M, for example, it still might be worthwhile for a lot of folks, especially if you’re just looking to move on from flying a cobra.
