I assume only a selection of planets are landable on, right? Not just any planet, anywhere?

Barren moons/planets only this expansion, no atmosphere.
EDIT: Actually, I’m unsure if it’s barren planets only for the initial release or for the entire duration of the expansion, but either way initially that’s what we’re restricted to.
That’s more than I thought anyway! Nice. I’m not sure I’m persuaded to pay full price, but I will probably pick this up when it goes on sale some time. I’ve been enjoying the base game.
Yeah, you can see on the navigation list which planets are…er…landable? The nav list also shows known planetary bases as well, which is nifty. The thing that’ll take the most getting used to, I think, is where you manage your planetary vehicles. You “look” down to access their panel in the ship and the SRV, and from here you deploy and dock back on your ship, which took me a few moments. Other than that, it was smooth…er…driving…

Is there a date on when this officially launches yet?
The date is NEVER YOU MIND.
Actually I dunno, this will doubtlessly go on for longer than the typical week that betas last in this game.
FD needs to get 1.5 out, first, so we can ditch the 32-bit client.
I don’t see Horizons as officially coming out before next year. If it does hit in 2015, it’s going to be woefully undercooked. Not that this has stopped FD from releasing still-doughy-in-the-middle stuff before, of course.
Cheers! Sounds fun! I was thinking the credits for handing in certain planets surfaces or discovered/undiscovered worlds when you scan on the surface. Same way stars/planets do from space.
I am a tad concerned they are not going to make it, which would be a bummer as this is potentially >the< explorers expansion.
Cheers!
It only does that automagically if you have access to the Horizons beta, right?
BTW, have they announced a proper release date for Horizons?
Correct, sir. Those of us who chose the $40 (w/loyalty discount) path to Horizons get to look at screenshots.
$40 bucks? Did you get a super secret special discount or something? I paid $44.99.
Driving my moon buggy around low gravity, crater-filled planets at full speed is so much fun that I now want an entire game based on this.

Is the 64 bit client of the regular game available?

Given that I figure it’ll still be a couple weeks until 2.0 Horizons drops for the masses (and it’s been said somewhere that 1.5 Ships will go live at the same time so that everyone gets something to play with), and that while the Imperial Cutter reportedly flies like a brick it still looks damn sexy and should make a decent, if ludicrously expensive, ship for trading, I went looking for a way to rank up a bit with the Empire as well as bank a few CR-bucks in the process.
I give you: Fehu
It’s a system on the ass-end of nowhere, much like Sothis, but most of its factions are aligned with the Empire. It has two stations (one with palm trees and pink daiquiris) only a few ls away from one another. And the missions that both bulletin boards typically hand out are charity missions (good for improving rep with the various factions), long-range courier missions, and long-range haulage missions. I did not notice any smuggling missions while I was there. The haulage missions generally required you to transport 2-8 tonnes of something 350 ly away for between 750k to 1.2M CR. Often you will even see different factions offer similar missions to the same station in the same destination system. And since these are legal haulage missions, you won’t need to worry about avoiding system scans.
Bring an asp if you can, pick up 10-15 of these mission at a time (visit the nearby other station when one bulletin board runs out of missions) and in about 2h all told jumping around, you can easily make 10-15M CR or so and rank up a bit with the Empire while you do, easy-peasy.
Ohhhh, I might do that, thanks!
Ah, this is what the internet was calling ‘crotch view’. I did wonder.
Hahahaha, crotch view, that’s kind of a perfect name for it.

Hey Brian, I’m making my way down to Orcus to support the faction. My Q is how do you get your own named faction, anyway?

You need to buy Braben a new jumper that he fancies.
