I really should finish my trek to the center of the galaxy and head home. Those big credit long-haul missions sound interesting, and I could refit my exploration asp for the purpose. Still got a mothballed imperial clipper, but it might not be well suited for it. Has excellent cargo capacity for regular trading but the Fehu stuff is picking up a lot of trading missions, right? The jump range on the asp would probably be more useful for hopping around faster. Although I might wanna play around with it on Coriolis, clipper could drop weapons and shields and rely on boost to outrun almost everything which might help.

I just had a pretty amazing evening, it was also exhausting, but at the end of 3ish hours, I’d made around 8 million credits, and had a ton of fun.

I headed down to Fehu and got a few missions, all of the long distance missions they’d let me take. When I was about to depart, I noticed one of the missions had to be done in 30 minutes. I had to get 320 LY in 30 minutes, and two of the other missions were at 38 and 45 minutes.

I’ve never flown as long a route as quickly before in my life. I barely scooped just enough to make it the entire way without any further scooping, but with maybe 5 minutes to spare, I made it to my first stop. Then my second with four minutes to spare. The final rush mission had me arrive at the outpost six minutes before it expired…and all the pads were full. I kept hitting the docking button but kept getting denied. With maybe 3 minutes left, I was able to dock.

This took a lot out of me, as I had to fight a lot of interdictions, but I still had several more missions to finish all over the area. I THEN noticed ANOTHER mission to advance in the Imperial Navy, this time from Outsider to Serf, so of course I had to take it. This involved picking up some trade data, so I had to scour for a weak signal source. First, I began hunting in the wrong system, as I misread the mission description, so when I finally go to the right system and found the trade data, I was elated, and opened my cargo scoop…

Or so I thought. It my fatigue, I dumped all my cargo, which included five tons of cargo needed for my last long haul mission. In trying to scoop them back up…I destroyed two of them. ARG. Thankfully an outpost nearby had some to sell, so after I picked up the illegal trade data, I headed there to rebuy the cargo, of which they had JUST enough. I then flew down and turned in my last mission for the night.

I am so spent, but I’m now a Serf and 8 million creds richer. I am so doing another one of these runs this weekend, SO FUN.

I also love how, at every system once you’ve picked up cargo, someone’s there to stop you, either to give you info or to interdict you. Makes for a crazy trip, and it’s great.

So yeah, loving these long runs. Can’t wait to do more. Thanks again ConVurt for the tip!

You seem to lead such an exciting ED life, lol. One day I’ll be able to do these runs! Thanks for the impression, Brian. It’s exciting reading about other people’s impression!

I’m in the same boat, or at least, travelling the same path. I’m a good 7000 LY from the nearest habitation, and just meandering along nicely. But all this talk of stuff and missions and then the new moon stuff kinda has me jazzed. Then, with the new exploration community goal(if i read that correctly), this should just all fit together nicely…as soon as i go the next 1000LY to a cool looking nebula…and then i’ll go home :)

Can I assume that a Cobra Mk III > Hauler for this?

After a few hours of pirate hunting this morning while getting back into the groove of things, I can probably afford a Cobra + good FSD.

While both stations in Fehu will support it, many of the stations you deliver to are typically outposts, with no large pads available to land a clipper. :( Definitely go with the asp.

Absolutely!

Glad its been working out for you!

Yeah, I find that it’s a lot more fun than just running laps in a regular trade route, or jumping into the CZ pool, as there are just enough little things to keep track of to make it interesting. And while you can make some good money off of it, it doesn’t require that you have already made ludicrous amounts to begin with.

Exactly, I told my friend who died twice last night in a DBE to load up a Cobra for hauling (he can’t afford an Asp yet) and do this run a couple of times.

Also, how funny is it that the two stations in Fehu are a resort and an asylum RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER.

You guys may talk me into bringing my Asp over for a run :). I got blown up in a High end CZ for the first time in a long time a short time ago, 680k insurance payday and that is even with the early access lower ins rate.

It’s a long trek, but it’s a good one.

I made that trip in a Cobra a few weeks ago when $muggleMania was all the rage. Of course by the time I got out there FD nerfed the big money smuggling missions so I had to settle for much less lucrative legal hauling missions. :-(

That was Sothis, this is Fehu.

Actually Fehu was another go-to destination like that for smuggling missions, just much less well-known because it hadn’t been involved in a Community Goal right before IIRC. One advantage to Fehu was that it was slightly closer to the Bubble as well.

I see some reasonably high end system requirements have been published for running this in VR next year.

I wonder if there’s any chance of the headset display being mirrored in some intelligible way (eg half of it) to the screen. To let the eager pilot fly his wife around basically :)

I’m a bit perplexed by those requirements unless they’re planning on completely revamping the VR experience. My OR DK2 runs Elite just fine via my rather old and pathetic ~2.5ghz/6GB RAM PC. Granted, I do have a decent GPU, but everything else is well below their recommended specs.

What’s the cargo size would you recommend to try this out on a Cobra? I get intrigued and would really love to land a couple of millions of cr.

My experience hasn’t been so great, but I think that’s largely down to me being a cheapskate on components. 4A FSD and Fuel Scoop definitely go a long way and I regret not purchasing them earlier. Dropping the 2T cargo bay for fuel isn’t a bad choice, either.

As I look at the galaxy map, it’s just so unbelievably vast, our universe! Fehu is so far away!

Your first run is probably going to be something of a test run anyway so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Certainly the missions you are offered will depend on your trade rank and how friendly you are with the local factions, but in general, even penniless traders should be able to find 3-4 missions available if you check the boards on both stations a few times, and net you around 2M+ CR and take maybe 20-25 tonnes of cargo space. So with a cobra fitting a class 4 shield and scoop, you should still be able to carry 28 tonnes of cargo.

Checking out the thread on the forums, it appears there is also a CG at Lave Station in Lave for exploration data.

Forum thread that stays updated with current CGs:

I may grab a couple scanners and take my Vulture over there just to try them out and get on the CG board. Don’t forget to sign up for the CG before turning in data if you try it! It may be a good starter way to make money as even the top 100% reward is 300,000 and bound to go up if it hits tier 4 or completes at 5/5.
