Yeah I wasted a lot of points because I didn’t accept the mission first before turning in the data.

Huh. That forum post says the exploration goal ends on the 17th, but the game launcher says the 10th. Either way, kinda lights a fire under my ass to get to the center and get back. Currently 15,000ly from Sol and closer to the center of the galaxy than human space, but I’ll still have to really haul ass if I wanna make it there and back in time.

Still, good reason to finish my exploration madness and get some bonus credits. Stopped scanning the primary stellar body every time and getting in to a good rhythm for speed jumping, the laid back pace was making the trip take far too long. Had one incident with an emergency drop at a neutron star but still at 95% hull and got a repair kit to keep my internals in working order.

Edit: Holy crap, it finally happened. Out around 16,000ly from Sol I found a bunch of unexplored black holes and I pissed allllllllllllllll over them. Getting first dibs on a black hole was something I had wanted to do since tagging unexplored Earthlikes and neutron stars and such isn’t that big of a deal, but every black hole I had found up until now had already been tagged. SCORE!

@Ponicus
Everyone makes that mistake with their first CG unless they’re warned ahead of time. I know I did.

Grats on that! I’ve had the same goal, and concur, even at 8400LY out, i hadn’t found an untagged black hole yet. I was pretty happy to get an untagged O star this run though.

Good luck on getting back quickly though - I’ve been working at it for the past two days(including way too long today), and i’m still 2500LY out…ugh.

I’ve also had a similar experience as you with a Neutron Star - i wonder if there’s any systems out there that are lethal to warp to? Maybe binary neutron stars or some other crazy thing…

Yeah, I hope to get to Lave tonight to check on the progress. They also warn you on that post that community goals can finish early if they meet their final goal. It only shows it at 3/5, but it hasn’t been updated on that forum post in quite a while so I am not sure how close it really is right now.

It seems combat goals are really hard to ever complete at the current settings, but I have heard of others completing quite fast like the trade/mining ones. I have no idea how fast exploration ones progress. I should be able to check in on it tonight when I get home from work to see where it is.

EDIT: Wow, that is awesome on the discoveries. I can’t imagine being that far out from civilization.

So, anyone got potential issues with the expansions being 64bit rather than the current 32bit the main ED game released as? I’m ok (my mini-itx build is all 64bit) but i hope a bunch of ED players are not going to be caught out with that change?

Thanks for the tip about doing the hauling missions out of Fehu, I am a new player and just bought an Asp yesterday, flew out there and made close to 10 million credits! Pretty awesome!

Now I just need to learn how to get the faction bonuses to maximize slave trading, my next ship goal is a Type-7. This game is a blast I must say!

Went to Robigo to find those famous smuggling missions but i guess my trade rank isn’t high enough :(

Atleast i got this lovely view.

The exploration goal is about half finished (the bar is at 50%) having hit 4/5 tiers. It says it’ll run for another 10 days (the launcher date is wrong, I think), but it looks like it might finish early, and at this rate, in only 2-3 days (OMG the launcher is right!!!)

Congrats! That is super-awesome!

That’s great! It’s a lot more exciting than running rares routes, which is probably how I made my first 10M in an asp. :)

The number of people on machines capable of playing Elite Dangerous that run a 32-bit OS is pretty small. I think Frontier is doing good by them by making sure the old 32-bit client is still going to be supported for a little while and I see no problem with a later expansion having higher system requirements.

Honestly, running a 32-bit OS in (soon to be) 2016 is just absurd. EDIT: Absurd if you expect to be playing the latest games, I mean.

If somebody is not running an x64 CPU and an x64 Win OS by now (late 2015)… sheesh

What’s the deal with Robigo?

Lovely pic.

Smuggling missions, i saw some that gave 5m each but they aren’t as common and they need a high trading rank.

I ended up grabbing 12 normal hauling missions from there.

I’ll have to try that once I get bored of Fehu, which likely won’t happen for a while. ;) Thanks!

Played around with Horizons a fair bit this weekend. The SRV driving mechanics are just too much fun. There’s a great sense of speed. Using the jump thrusters on low grav worlds is just completely engaging. I spent hours just heading off to the … errr … horizon, leaping off the edge of immense craters, bounding through the inky blackness of deep canyons.

Flight mechanics are also fun. Landing a big ship on a high grav world can get interesting. I think I’m going to go buy an eagle just for flying NOE.

Good performance for me, but I’ve got a beefy machine. The visuals can be a bit hit-and-miss, mostly due to the lighting. Sometimes it’s jaw dropping. Sometimes, there’s a lack of contrast and everything seems a bit flat. I’ve gotten in the habit of touching down along the terminator, where the deeper shadows look great.

Also had a good time collecting materials, but I find the points-of-interest pretty blah. As far as I can tell, they just randomly pop up (too often for some unpopulated rock at the ass end of nowhere). I guess they are the surface-bound analogue for USS’s. Most of the time, they are things that give me WANTED status and fines if I engage with them , so the point sorta’ eludes me.

That aside, for now, I am completely engaged in just hopping from one world to the next, looking for interesting features from orbit, and jumping into my SRV.

That sounds awesome, BB. I’m really looking forward to getting back into the game with Horizons.

Have they given any timetable in regards to when the multi-crew functionality will be implemented? I know it’s in the Horizons expansion, but my understanding is that the initial release will “only” have the planetary landing portion of the game. Is that correct? As always, their communication can be a bit… lacking.

I think multi-crew stuff is later in the…er…season…

Yeah, I was mostly curious if anyone had heard if they mentioned when in 2016 that might be coming. Is it going to be 2.1 or the last update of the year, that kind of thing. It’s all a little muddied for me because they’ve spoken about multicrew in Horizons previews/interviews, but it’s not a feature that’s going to be shipped.

I’m frightened and confused about this whole SaaS thing (I actually think it’s great for game development, but a little more clarity from Frontier would be nice!).

They are playing their cards close to the vest here. IN some of the Q&A sessions, Braben and others have alluded to earlier in the season or later in the season for some features, but I don’t believe multicrew has been giving a timetable. My guess would be fairly late in 2016, but that’s an ill-informed guess.

I’ll need to friend you guys in-game at some point. Thus far, I’ve been living a pretty sheltered Elite experience, but I am sure Multicrew will force me out of that shell.

Even in open, unless you’re hanging out at popular spots like Lave or wherever the goals are, it’s rare to see other players.
