Has anyone heard when the existing-owner discount for Horizons is ending? It’s very much on the Christmas wishlist I gave my wife, but it occurred to me that with its release next week, the sale may end before/at the same time it’s released on Steam – which is the only way she would have of buying it for me.

Thoughts?

Don’t take this as gospel, but my understanding was that it was for pre-orders. I would imagine that it wouldn’t be available anymore as of the 15th but that’s pure speculation on my part.

I ended up just buying it over Thanksgiving for that reason, when they offered the paint job pack with it.

A 10 GBP discount is still available as of five minutes ago.

Edit: Misread your post. Yeah, it does make sense that they’d end that when they went live.

QFT, even though you were probably being sarcastic. I believe I just saw a typical PvP SCB Boat Imperial Courier “tactics” video.

Dat terrain though – makes me miss Battlezone.

Actually no, both times I’ve died to a Clipper it’s been due to high-speed ramming.

Running into a Clipper with either a Vulture or Courier is no joke. Been there too.

ooh them Fehu runs are good fun. pay well too. better than doing a rare goods loop. too bad the game is taking ages to jump in and out of hyperspace tonight :(

Switch to solo play, it helps.

Also with all the Fehu runs i managed to buy a Python o/

Awesome!

I’ve been reading that with 1.5/Horizons, they’ve made some changes to long-distance hauling missions, greatly increasing the amount of cargo they ask you to deliver (which kind of makes sense–if you’re gonna make the trip, you may as well deliver a boat-load). So don’t be surprised to see quantities of 50, 100, and 150 in future missions. I have no idea if the payout increases as well, but suspect it won’t be some dramatic. Normally I would say this would put a big damper on those who might want to continue doing these runs in the future, but…

I don’t think there’s anything preventing you from filling your hold with delivery missions at the Resort, say, then flying out to the Asylum and dumping your cargo en route, only to take on even more missions there. Then once you get to your delivery target area, you just buy it all back from local sources to fulfill the mission requirements.

Sure, sounds hinky as all hell to me, but it’s not like anyone in Carenes is going to be able to tell they’re not actually eating Fehu bananas…

So, I’m getting this game reinstalled tonight so I’m ready for Horizons tomorrow. That was the plan, anyway, but I unfortunately seem to be experiencing a problem that I had with the game originally at release. The game refuses to detect my joystick or receive any inputs from it in the menu, although the joystick is working fine everywhere else in Windows (it’s a CH Fighterstick + Pro Throttle).

I remember I had this problem at release, but for the life of me I can’t remember what I did to fix it. Has anyone had this problem and know how to get Elite to see your joystick? It’s not even accepting joystick input in the menu.

EDIT: If anyone else has the same problem, I had to disable the joystick on the Logitech G13, then reboot and load Elite. That did the trick. Can’t believe that hasn’t been fixed in all this time.

I’ve wondered if this was the case. Do you know for sure if this works?

I can’t say it works for every mission, but I accidentally sold some (of what I thought was) excess personal weapons on a black market mission out of Fehu last night only to arrive at my destination without them. After finding a nearish station that sold them, I was able to complete for the full reward. Luckily Fehu being Fehu, almost all of the cargo hauling missions are of the food variety, so loading up a ton of missions and restocking closer to your objective seems doable.

Thankfully I made enough during my Fehu exploits to have upgraded to a maxed-out Asp and have enough banked to upgrade to a Type 9.

Sadly the 1.5 change log contains the following:

‘Unique cargo missions - you have to deliver what you are given’

Not sure if these are specific missions to carry unique items or if all cargo is now specially tagged.

Yeah, it’s a bit vague. We’ll find out in a few hours.

Horizons launch trailer.

Im sorry if this has already been covered but I am confused. Will the Horizons 64-bit upgrade overwrite my 32-bit base install? Should I manually uninstall my current 32-bit install and then will get a fresh 64-bit install for everything? Ugh

Edit: I read the notes, the unique cargo missions sound like a new type of mission to me… indeed we shall see.

Horizons is only 64-bit, so I doubt it will overwrite anything. More likely you will get 2 separate entries in your launcher, Elite Dangerous 32-bit, and Elite Horizons 64-bit. Launching the former will bring you into the game at patch-level 1.5, and the latter at 2.0.

Does this work on the account side like a MMO? The question I’m really getting at is I’m wondering if my current install will update correctly. Here’s my setup:

-Kickstarted Elite, so got the game from Frontier directly.
-Added my game to Steam, once they gave everyone keys.
-Pre-ordered Horizons (so it’s through their store, not Steam)

Just wondering if I’ll need a separate install from their site, or if it’ll just check my permissions on the backend regardless of what client I’m running.

If you’re playing on Steam, you’ll need to grab the Frontier launcher from Frontier’s site and install Horizons using that. Horizons has not yet been made available on Steam, so you won’t be able to download it that way. I expect that once it does, you’ll either get a separate key for it like they provided for the base game, or it’ll just work. But until then you’ll need the Frontier launcher.

That all said, this may or may not work to add Horizons to your Steam install.
