So if I like keeping a clean HD should / can I uninstall the Dangerous 32-bit client?
Man, I can’t do this because the game requires an updated launcher. Ugh.
This is like a fumbled snap. Not sending your new launcher to Valve. ‘Nah wel’ll wait on that, how many Steam copies did we sell anyway? Psht hardly any. Oh, we gave everyone a Steam key? No biggie, we’ll make them all reinstall in another folder, they’ll enjoy that.’

Kinda seems par for the course for Frontier. They do some things really well, and some other things very, very badly… usually in a way that leaves you scratching your head.
EDIT: Oh goody. Now that I’m downloading the new client (assuming the Steam one doesn’t work), it’s now going at a blazing 0.21mb/s. No worries, folks, the ETA is only 9 hours for getting this baby installed. I’m going to laugh (i.e. murder someone) if I have a separate 64-bit download after this one.

Presumably you should be able to. Your character info is stored on Frontier’s servers, the only thing you will need to make sure you move over are any customization options like changes to your keymapping and/or joystick configurations.
I Twittered them.
Knightsaber: Why don’t you send the new launcher to Valve?
Frontier: We will be doing this as soon as Horizons is available on Steam, no ETA at this time though.
Well I guess I’ll wait then. I like my games in one place, downloading at Steam speed.

Confirming for everyone current version of launcher is 0.4.4347.0
For anyone who didn’t jump into the beta, this video with a couple of devs walks you through the new Horizons features including equipping the SRV, planetary approach and orbital cruise, planetary flight and landing, SRV deployment and control, resource collection and synthesis (crafting), dismissing and recalling your ship and finally boarding the ship and taking off!

Good stuff, Mr. Jones. I will have to check that out as I don’t know any details on how the new Horizons features work yet so that sounds perfect. I did end up purchasing Horizons last week so am ready to go although I didn’t download the new build yet.
I never did request the Steam key so at least my launcher/setup will be the same as before.

Gentlemen, start your installers! 8Gb inbound…

Weird - my steam is updating with 8 Gb of Elite.
Just one thing to note if you’re upgrading via the launcher - you need to select the version you want (e.g. 64 Bit Horizons) and click install to get it. If you just open the launcher and hit Upgrade, it will only upgrade the version you had selected, which was probably 32 Bit Elite Dangerous, and could be a waste of bandwidth.

In addition to the 2.0 Horizons launching today, there is the 1.5 Ships release for the base game. That is why Steam is updating.

Just to be clear, if I buy the Elite: Dangerous that’s on Steam right now I would not be getting Horizons and I’d have to buy it separately?
Correct, it would be Season 1 (E:D) only. You would then need to upgrade to Season 2, which is Horizons.
Nevermind me, I need more coffee and better reading skills.

On the other hand, you could buy Horizons on Frontier’s Store (if they’re not currently hammered) and I believe it comes with the base game. And if history is any guide, when it does eventually come to Steam, they’ll also give you a Steam key.
Horizons is now on Steam as a separate product, which is surprising to me. I thought it’d be an add-on to the original. Kinda weird.
Heh, there’s a portion in the Frontier Store to claim a product key for Horizons, but it keeps crashing on me.

So, Horizons is on Steam now - My account is linked with steam. Should I not have access to horizons on steam then? I see I can purchase it for 40 euros, but nothing about it being in my library already.
