If you guys get a wing up and want some help some time over the holidays, post a place and time and I will try to be there. Would be fun to get a group together sometime for some fighting.

Hunting for bounties in low intensity resource sites and nav beacons generates a pretty nice income. I’d suggest swapping into an Eagle, which is pretty fun to fly as a starter ship for bounty hunting. Find a station near a resource site, kill some bad guys, claim your bounties, rinse and repeat. Keep an eye on your targets and don’t get too ambitious (i.e. don’t take on a Anaconda by your lonesome). If you gang up on a nice prize with the local law enforcement, you can make some really nice money with a single kill.

As you generate some cash, kit your ship out with better power and weapons. Once you’ve got a million or two under your belt, your options open up for other ships and other things you can do (missions, mining, trading, etc.)

Count me in! I’m bored of flying solo, would be a nice change for a bit.

Indeedily!

make sure you’re putting it in the right place. there’s multiple installs for horizons, 32bit E:D, and 64bit E:D.

Yeah, Horizons has a binding folder plus there’s the previous appdata folder, put them in both and still nothing.

Well that sucks. Other than checking ED’s support forum I’d make a new control scheme within the game and then exit it to see if it got saved in the bindings folder or somewhere else.

Can confirm that my Appdata custom binds are showing up in Horizons, no worries. Mind you, I haven’t just done a fresh install…

Try making some binding changes in game, then exiting and pasting your .binds file into the Appdata location. Does it have a custom name? Give it one and see if it shows up in the controls dropdown.

Ohhhhh, solid notion, I’ll try that in the morning. Thanks!

If anyone spots me online, I’m usually in the Veloxi group these days and not doing anything terribly important, so feel free to fire a wing-request my way if you’d like an extra hand with something.

This might have already been covered, if so i apologize for bringing it up again but what is the deal with the 2 versions of the client now (32 and 64 bit)? Does the 64-bit client make an appreciable difference? If i install the 64-bit can i then delete the 32-bit client? Will that mess with any of my saved state?

64 bit apparently has better graphics and such. Little things I’ve noticed so far are increased traffic in stations and the like.

So get this. I was trying to copy a binding file from the HCS Voice Pack I own with Brian Blessed, and it comes with several. Previously I used the base mouse and keyboard binding and added my axes and stuff onto it. That didn’t work this time.

Since I’m using an X52 Pro throttle, I figured I’d try that binding, and lo and behold the game saw it. So crazy. I was then able to build upon that binding to create a new custom binding file, which works great! Thanks for the help!

The client is now fully 64 bit for Horizons, so I guess supplying a 64 bit for the old base game is transitional.

The general benefit of 64 bit is access to more of your system RAM. With the procedural worlds in Horizons, I guess they needed to do that - you can see the min specs have increased from 4gb to 6gb RAM.

You should be able to delete the 32 bit, and it shouldn’t affect your save (it’s cloud based after all).

I’m also interested in the base game for $15 bucks! Is it decently playable w M/K or a gamepad? I don’t have a joystick ATM…

No worries, glad it’s all working now!

I made three custom-named .bind files way back, so I could stuff around with setups for HOTAS, 360 controller, and mouse/keyboard without affecting or conflicting with the default ones. They’ve all shown up in the controls dropdown in every update so far, including after changing to a Steam install, so I hoped something like this might work for you.

Absolutely! It’s best with HOTAS but the default 360 controller mapping is definitely playable. And highly customisable.

They showed up on the previous install of windows just fine, but not this reinstalled version. Very weird.

So apparently the HCS Voice Packs folks updated their packs for Horizons and I somehow missed this. I only found out about it when someone in my stream told me to dismiss my ship so I could see how cool it looks.

“Why would I want to dismiss the ship?” I say.

Suddenly, I hear Brian Blessed, through what sounds like a CB radio, say “Orbital Navigation System Online” as I watch my ship take off, and then right before it disappears, he yells, “SPAAAAACE THE FINAL FRONTIER. OH WHO IN THE WHAT SAID THAT?” and then poof, ship gone.

I died.

I have never had an issue with mouse & keyboard. (Trackpad and keyboard actually). So yeah, dive right in!

I did a run, but I think that’ll be it. Those 32k LS runs are just painful. :)
