A 6A power plant gets you more power for less weight and better heat efficiency than 7C. More price, admittedly, but if you lose the heat sink launcher (your pulses won’t overheat) and replace it with another 0A shield booster, and drop the shield generator from 6A to 5A, you’ll have basically the same shield strength for similar cost, but less weight. Also, I’d gimble the weapons at the very least. While the hardpoint placement for fixed is great on the python, it can be very sluggish to turn and keep a bead on your target, especially smaller ships.

What I don’t get here is why having my throttle at 50% while the assist is off has anything at all to do with how many degrees per second of deflection I can get from the ship since its just using the body mounted thrusters ports to rotate the ship.

I mean the actual answer is “because game”, but on this specific point I don’t think it’s even fictionally true. To the extent that the FA On model is actually portraying something “real” on the ships, it’s vectored thrust from the main engines. The thrusters are separate (and indeed you can fire them in the opposite direction to your main rotation).

I am off again into the big black. As much as I have been enjoying doing missions the lure of discovery calls.

The only big choice I have remaining is whether to take an auto repair module or a vehicle hanger. It is a harder decision than you might think. I simply love the idea that a few weeks out there and Frontier releases things to find on deep space planets, unfortunately I know I will be tempted to just “go for a spin” at some point and landings are always hazardous. On the other hand I can imagine having an accident that leaves me cursing myself I never brought an auto repair module. Hmmm…

Here’s what I’m tooling around in: a kitted Eagle which is great for moderate-to-high-intensity RES hunting (using the maneuverability to stay out of fire arcs, and failing that, using the armor to absorb damage or run away), while nevertheless being cheap enough to lose basically at will.

I’m way less rich than most of you, and my goal right now is to use my Cobra to haul my way into a big payday from one of the next CGs so I can buy the Type 7 I have my eye on.

After bouncing off this for a while, I finally found a groove.

RES Hunting for the past few days. Driving a nice Viper III, about to swap to a Vulture.

Any pointers on activities or increasing yield? Glanced at powerplay, but it’s a bit overwhelming. Missions seem to be pretty thin too…

Once you swap to, and fully equip, a Vulture, your life now consists of trolling the most-dangerous RES sites you can find. Vultures are PvE death machines. So much, in fact, that I consider the Vulture a PvE “end game” ship. Once you’ve got one, and you just want to blast fools, there’s nothing better.

Lose the shields and take both? (Just be extra extra careful when landing.)

There’s just something about skinny dipping through a star’s corona to refuel… ;)

If you’re bounty hunting primarily, then powerplay is probably worth taking a second look at even if it is overwhelming. A couple of the powers give better rewards for bounty hunting, and I’ve read that as you level that up the multipliers increase pretty dramatically.

Yeah, I’m really just trying to limit cost here. I have 130M and I’d rather ensure that keep 10-15M in reserve given the 6M insurance cost. I can always upgrade those components later on.

Your point about the gimbals makes sense, though. I hadn’t considered the nimbleness of a Python.

Hah! Shields are staying, so is the auto dock computer. No way am I going on a long trip only to blow it getting jumped or mislanding as I come home :)

Auto dock? Are you crazy?

Python purchased! Woo.

Finding components is proving to be a bugger though. Anyone have non-Founder’s World suggestions for class 6 and 7 A-level components?

Lol autodock. To each their own but dude. Real men land MANually :p

My battlepython rocks a 6a power plant. The 7 is hugely expensive and overkill for my needs.

Agreed, and I’m aiming for a 6A plant. But I would like a 7A FSD, distrbutor, and thrusters. Where’d you find your 6A plant?

Try using inara.cz. Make a (free) account, set your settings, then go to outfitting and choose the module you want. It’ll give you a list of places you can buy them.

EDIT: For example, if you’re near ORCUS, it claims that Tombaugh Station carries them, if I’m reading it correctly.

Brilliant! Thank you!

Yeah, yeah, you two laugh away. :)

After a month of not docking I just can’t handle the nerves of a manual dock laden with exploration data.

Autodock is handy when smuggling since it goes almost psychotically fast. Otherwise yeah, much prefer manual docking.

If I can spare the slot, autodock.

I would vastly prefer that instead of the shirty interdiction system they have now, if they would replace that with dropping out of cruise some distance from any destination and then deal with piracy and combat out there on the approach lane. That way a freighter is running for the safety of the port, police ships are already present patrolling like in a RES. In fact just treat dropping to a station just like a RES. Drop me 30-50 km out and let me walk it in. Bounty hunters would be able to patrol around the station and clean up trouble for the incoming transports.

Super cruise as implemented is a tragic mistake.

Aszurom: Agreed. You probably know already but one tip is if you are doing a high value trade run to just park with your butt facing the star and wait for a few minutes as soon as you enter a system.

That lets the pirates sundive and kill themselves like lemmings. Then you can make your docking run before the respawn hits.
