Spice. It’s the variety of life.
Is that from Frank Herbert’s Dune?
No, it’s from Sting’s Dune.
Ha! I’d forgotten than Sting was in that movie.
Most people have. And I don’t blame them. ;)
Next you’ll tell me you’ve forgotten that Patrick Stewart was in that movie.
In my defense, I only ever watched it the one time when it came out in this thing called a “cinema”…so it was over 30 years ago… (OMG am I old).
Yeah, I’ve only seen Dune once as well.

There is a mini series also Brian, but I think the Dune movie sets the stage so much better

The book however, especially the first one in the series is of timeless literary quality. It has opened young schurems mind to ecology, sociology and what it actually meant to expand one’s mind.
Of course every movie adaptation failed, it’s such a thing of the mind, telling it by action and spectacle entirely and necessarily misses the point.
I very rarely laugh out loud in front of my cat with my gal not here in the early morning in fall when my windows need washing with the rent coming due with my espresso just finishing. But I did at this one.
Some things can’t be taught.

“I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
I saw Dune when I was young, enjoyed it for what it was but didn’t really follow the story, remember being freaked out by Baron Harkonnen. Read the book about a decade later, enjoyed it far more. Went back immediately to watch the movie, hated it. It felt like a bullet point list of the book’s main story, without any of the subtlety or detail. I suspect I’d enjoy it more these days having forgotten the book, and perhaps appreciating Lynch’s visual design and/or laughing at the terrible blue-screen effects.
