My main copy is direct from Frontier so it should be fine? My steam copy is for my son to play crewed, I havent tried that yet though.

Weird though. maybe its just a bug in the new update they will fix? Hope so, I love elite in VR.

I think the Steam version (which is what I’ve been using) now requires you to launch in SteamVR mode. I may just go back to using the Frontier version like you are.

I got an email update the other day, something about in-game avatars are now available for the Xbone version. I hadn’t fired it t up in a bit, so I spent a few hours playing.

First, of course, I made an avatar that looks like me (or at least my idealized, world-weary-cool version of myself). That was fun. Then I got back to the game itself.

There must have been some changes since last I logged in. I was running an Eagle, getting my ass handed to me regularly. missions were paying absolute shit, so I couldn’t get any money together to move up, and actually going into debt because I was dying trying to do bounties. It was no fun, so I stopped playing.

They must have rebalanced something, because now short trade missions actually seemed worth it, and after a few hours of playing I’d made enough to graduate to the Cobra MKIII, and I’ve got 1.2 million in the bank on the way to getting my next upgrade (Diamondback Scout? When I can actually find one for sale).

Just curious, but is the Horizons expansion complete now? Have they hinted at all (besides the Aliens, of course) what’s coming next?

With everyone raving about VR support for this, I’m really hoping it’s added in short order if/when Scorpio and the MS VR solution comes out.

There should be one more part for horizons, and that may coincide with the first part of 3.0

Learning how not to die should be done in sidewinders. They can be quite feisty when tricked out but are very cheap to lose so shouldn’t put you in debt. Ah well you seem to have made it past that part anyway. Good luck in the cobra! That’s such a fun ship.

What schurem said. Also dont be in a rush to ditch that MkIII Cobra. It is an EXCELLENT all rounder ship. If I was to do my early days over again I would have stayed with it for a lot longer.

Cobra Mk IV here for the extra chunkiness and additional small hardpoint. All A, engineered a little bit with some low-hanging-fruit mods. Does 20LY jumps. Plan on keeping “THE SQUARE DEAL” for quite some time; not really in a hurry to Asp up or go Vultch.

Oh but dude the ASP has that cockpit.

Seriously, as much as I love the Cobra, if you can get an ASP, do so.

I’ve had both Asps and the Vulch in previous CMDR lives. I liked the Vulch (other than its pathetic glass jaw) because it punched many pounds above its weight, but hated it because that was ALL that it did. As for the Asp, well, yeah, probably one day I’ll need to spend all my credits on something, but then again I look at my measly 350K buyback on my fully kitted out Kobra and just smile.

Ah, yeah, if you’re gonna bounty hunt and care about your buyback costs, the CMK3 is a way better deal.

ASP is a brilliant ship no doubt, but I did jump (hur hur) too quickly to it. The way I could just outrun just about anything in my Cobra though… I miss that :) Good times, good times.

My boats:

Lady Ada, a python. She’s my main ride. Has the shields, the cargo hold, the pewpew and the range. She’s engineered to the gills and can jump up to 24ly even carrying a modest load. She’s armed with a large beam below and two large burst turrets up top. On the front sides she has two gimballed autocannons that are engineered to do heat damage as well as armour piercing. The lasers are engineered for efficiency so they can keep going all day long.

My Fer-de-Lance called Blue Streak. Its my pew-pew boat. That single huge beam below just can’t be beat. To back that up she rocks four medium railguns. Haven’t done much engineering to her yet.

My sweet little cobra runabout, Fireball. Here pictured investigating the aliens.

And sometimes one needs to go far and get curious about what’s out there. Nothing beats an Asp for that. Mine’s named Cassiopeia after my cat. She’s kitted out for range, but not to the expense of everything. She still is shielded and armed just in case.

Nice!

Hey Scharmers or anyone really,
I have to ask because I’m thinking about it. Have you ever reset your commander? You know, start over. I’ve had my commander since the bubble beta days. I got burnt out and haven’t played at all this year. I don’t have a ship bigger than the ASP and was grinding to a Python when I quit out of boredom.

I guess I miss being small. Is it worth the reset in your opinion?

What is the point of resets? Erasing standing with groups/factions?

sure it is. i used to reset all of the time in elite2. being small fry is when this game excels, it generates its story effectively then. This becomes harder when you become space-trump and you need to define your own goals for yourself.

me, i havent reset. I want to make triple elite first. The minute i do, i screenshot and reset lol.

In the grander scheme I don’t think there is a point. However, I have heard that when your rep is reset there is a lot less AI grief. It’s a personal thing really. I was hoping if the goal posts were closer together I might get back into it. Eh, not a big deal.

Numerous times. Schurem called it; the best part of this game is taking your time and scrapping your way up. Buffing out that first Sidey, deciding which of the low-end ships to go from there, feeling the satisfaction of A-rating your Cobra. Everything is pretty much grind and downhill from there.

I dont agree with that mate. The game was not going downhill for me. It did get less urgent in its sense of direction. Getting a big ship kitted to perfection is glory. There are few virtual vehicles I have felt such a strong connection to as the Lady Ada.

It’s not grind if its a result of just pottering about with a podcast on lol.

Commander Creator is pretty cool! The characters look really neat in VR, nice art style to them. Nice job on the bland mono-colour suits, almost had me reaching for the wallet for a slightly better one. ;)

Is anyone using Win 10 Creators Update and noticed performance issues? This may be placebo or coincidence, but everything appeared to substantially smooth out for me when I disabled the Xbox Game Bar thing.

Those are some sweet rides, @schurem! I think I am due for a visit back. I always wanted to get a Fer-de-Lance someday.
