So I’ve been knocking support tickets back and forth with Frontier and after several failed “try this” attempts to fix things, they’ve now implemented a fix in the client itself. It hasn’t gone live yet, but when it does one of two things will happen: 1. I will finally be able to get into the online game, or 2. It still won’t work.
I’m hoping for the former, but I’m expecting the latter! ;)
And jp, yesterday your name popped up as a friend in the top right corner of my menu screen, but today it’s vanished. I couldn’t actually interact meaningfully with anything, there was a line with a X through it which I imagine means you weren’t connected at the time, so now that it’s vanished I’m not sure. Still, until I get proper connected like, anything could happen.
I hope when they fix the client for you, krayzkrok, they don’t somehow mess it up for everyone else. ;-)
Wouldn’t that be ironic, given that I’d still be unable to play with anyone else.

Hahaha that would be awful. Dangerous Aussie animals strike the Internet!
Remind me again what major features they’re planning to add after the December 16th release? I ask because endless-development games are killing me lately. I need a well-defined entry point.
I’m sure it’s been discussed, but you guys simply post too much about space sims! :)

With their MMO approach, it’s clear they will have to continue work on the universe, I hope they will focus more on exploration and wonder than squabbles over dirt by factions, we got that in bucket loads by other games, seemingly billions of stars doesn’t change the need to take someone’s else’s shit.

I haven’t followed this game very closely, and I must be the only aging gamer who never played Elite. But I still plan to buy this, probably when it releases, even though I gather it won’t be complete. I like the idea of getting into a pretty spaceship and wandering around the Milky Way. Sounds fun. :)

Player wings, which are like groups. Being able to share mission rewards, trade, bounty, etc. All the existing systems will probably be improved and added onto.
For expansions: FPS, the ability to fly into planetary atmospheres. I’m sure there’s a lot more, that’s just off the top of my head.

I am looking forward to being able to land on a planet. When that gets in, the game will be a true successor to frontier; elite 2 which was my entry point to the game and cost me a great deal f time i should have spent doing homework back then. The other thing that will be added post-release that i am really looking forward to is more ships. Fdev have comitted to 30 ships eventually iirc and that means theres quite a few still to come.
I dont give a rat’s ass about a first person shooter like getting out and about your ship portion. The mere thought of it brings back baleful memories of eve-o trying that direction for a year or so and failing miserably.
but the thing I am most eagerly looking forward to is the Oculus Rift Consumer Version. Once that gets out, I will never need to go on vacation anymore.

X:Rebirth went down that road and failed spectacularly as well. Maybe third time’s the charm?
I feel the same way as you. I mean, it might be neat to walk around your ship for a time or two but after that I’d think I’ll completely ignore it. It’s fine as a curiosity but as a major feature? No thanks.

You’re not alone. I never played Elite (I’m 45).

I made a million! Combined with the funds tied up in my ship I am now worth about two and a half gigacreds :D Made a trade run from Eranin to Lave to Sol carrying ‘rare goods’. Offloading at Sol netted a clean million <whoop! whoop!>
I think I will invest it in a pimped out viper and go pwn some NPC faces with that. I really want my combat rating to go up a little. It does not do to be rated ‘mostly harmless’ lol. I am one deadly motherfucker!
Man, I need to start playing again now that there won’t be a wipe.

To the guys who’ve recently bought into the game (pre-ordered): Be shure to log into your store.zaonce.net account and download the game. You should have access to the training scenario’s already. This means you can get your controls sorted and start getting a handle on how to fly, fight and die like a bitch. One of them scenario’s should be named Kobayashi Maru ;-)
Yeah I downloaded the combat tutorials and messed around for a bit, God this game is gorgeous! I only have K&M right now which wasn’t really working for me, the second mission was too difficult with that setup. I did spend some time in the first tutorial just zipping around the asteroid field and soaking in the amazing sound quality. The tutorials don’t seem to let you check out the galaxy map or interact in any meaningful way beyond combat but I am very excited to lose myself in this on release day once my joystick arrives.

Yea the greater galaxy is not in the tutorials. you can try a limited travel scenario so you know how its done. You could try it with an xbox controller. Some people insist the game is quite playable that way. Im a snob myself, I say HOTAS or bust. The controls your pilot is holding in the game are modelled on saitek’s X52 set. just sayin’ ;-)

So I sat down and gave the combat tutorials a try with my X52 Pro last night. That was a lot of fun, even though it was a bit rough at first. I found a fan made user manual that explained a lot though. Can’t wait to play the real game when it unlocks. Curse my limited tutorial access.
Stop tempting me! I can’t afford the time & money.
Damnit, now that I’ve posted this here, I’m lost.

Being all flush with cash, I flew back out to Lave and stored the Lakon truck mk6. Bought me an eagle, kitted it out as lush as I could and went for pew pew in the neighbouring Riedqat anarchy system. What fun :D
Hotfreakm dont make me break out the Do-IT-dude again… ;-)

But… can you afford NOT to partake of the best space sim in well over a decade?
