The only thing this is missing is Force Feedback. Hopefully it gets added. Then I’ll do some sort of hybrid MS Sidewinder FF 2 + X52 Throttle setup.

Heh I was having a desperate dogfight against a pirate in a python the other night and at one point he suddenly stopped and I just couldn’t evade his big fat overly armed arse and flew into him. I had a sliver of health left, like 3% hull integrity. So did he. I said fuck it and jousted one last time with the bastard. Cost me one percent (one third!) of the structural integrity I had left and him his ship. BAM 13k in the pocket. And then I noticed…

The sounds were off. The HUD wasn’t displaying in the middle of my windscreen. The rest of the canopy was all sharded and shattered. There was a small blue timer ticking down to a terrible death of oxygen deprivation. The sounds of my ship faded further and I started to hear labored breathing. I kicked her into frameshift and prayed I’d be in time.

As the timer ticked down into its last minute, I dropped out of frameshift and made a fast and sloppy entry into the station. With mere seconds to spare the barely living wreck of my ship was lowered into the safety of the docking bay. Phew! Space is fucking cold man!

I haven’t followed this game very closely, and I must be the only aging gamer who never played Elite. But I still plan to buy this, probably when it releases, even though I gather it won’t be complete. I like the idea of getting into a pretty spaceship and wandering around the Milky Way. Sounds fun. :)

The worst part is that now I have to wait until the 16th to enjoy it because the pre-order doesn’t get access to gamma. :( I guess I will continue my reading of the Foundation series on my kindle and avoid reading posts like schurem’s which are just going to make me hate myself for not splurging earlier on a beta copy.

Nice patch!

I need to enjoy this pace of development while I can. One drawback about releasing right before Christmas is that development slows to a crawl right after release, as developers are taking much-deserved holidays. I’m going to miss the patches and content coming in fast and furious. :)
