There’s a solo mode, but I thought there’s no offline mode.

Ah, yes, that would be it. I must have been leaning over, for it went right over my head. :0

Sorry about that. Yes, was just kidding.

ED is like a year-long Advent calendar for space-sim fans. Instead of stale candy corn and boiled candies, we get awesome.

I personally think it’s the most important event in the genre since the release of Freespace 2 or I-War 2.

That joke supercruised right by you.

Yea! Spiral your joke approach next time, Hotfreak.

Wow, that trailer…

Please tell me there is no slow-mo walk to the cockpit in ED though. I just got done ragging on Star Citizen for all that stuff. I only have an hour or so at a time to play games, I don’t want to waste 20 minutes of it watching myself launch and land my ship. I thought you never even see yourself (pilot) in ED? Isn’t it just all ship-based?

No slow mo walk. Your ship does get drawn into and out of the station hangars but that takes about… 7 seconds, maybe? I’m usually using the time to plot my course or interacting with the station services.

Iteration is the enemy of humor…no, that’s not right… Iteration is the enemy of spontaneity…no, that’s a platitude… Let’s go with the first one.

The trailer isn’t gameplay footage and is honestly not very representative of the game, none of the ships move or fight like that either.

You cannot leave the seat of your ship, though that is something that’s coming in an expansion.

He might mean the slightly OTT one of the guy walking to his ship. That is 100% nothing in the game right now, and may be just an artistic view of what one of the possible expansions will be, having an actual body that you can see as you walk around your ship etc. But it might never happen, and if it did it won’t look like that most likely (they don’t have SC budgets for a start).

I expect it might look like Minecraft 3rd person view :)

HOLY EFFING SHIT!

They fixed it, those crazy Frontier folks! I still need some crazy port forwarding shenanigans, but now it actually works.

I can now go online and play the open world game. :) :) :) I feel unreasonably happy at all this, perhaps because it’s all been denied for so long.

I shall see you out there at some point.

That’s great krazykrok!

But how did it get done?

That’s so exciting, krayzkrok! We’re on different sides of the world and all but hopefully I bump into you online at some point!

WOOHOO! Congrats!!! YAY!

Glad to hear! I used to run with lots of folks in Perpetuum from Australia very early AM here so may run into you at similar time frames in Elite. Glad you got it sorted out, krayzkrok.

OMG do awesome and I so want to know the exact technical details what had to be done!

OK everyone, we’re up to 13 group members. Make sure you join the jpinard private group session when launching the game if you don’t want to be in full-on PvP open play. Currently texting got broken in the 2.0 update so no response is due to that. Also, if you feel private group play lags more than single play you should note that.

I should also reiterate my thanks to everyone on here who tried to help, which wasn’t an inconsiderable amount of effort. I think it all helped.

I reported the fix, and asked for more details if they had any. I’ll let you know what they say, if anything.

Of course I only have a few more days left here before I head to Europe for Christmas vacation with family, but I’ll get online this evening. I’ll certainly be online (I hope!) when I get to Europe as well, although it may be on my laptop. We’ll see. At the very least I know it’ll be waiting for me when I return.

Just bought today so only have access to the SP combat tutorials, but was pleased to see it runs quite well on my dual core machine. I hadn’t been sure. Hopefully the full game will do just as well.
