A bunch of people seem to be enjoying this, going by the main thread, but info about players’ in-game handes are spread out amongst all the other myriad posts.
So I thought I’d start a thread for posting your handle in-game and what group you are playing in, if any.
So post your deets here and I’ll update the first post with everyone’s details.
Groups
Open Play, obviously
Veloxi - Brian Rubin’s group
RETIRED - jpinard - jpinard’s group - use Veloxi instead
Mobius - a PvE group spawned on the Elite forums back in beta, and now runs around 1,800 members
Assuming you don’t play solo, if you are a member of a group, you can start the game in ‘group play’, rather than ‘open play’ and the only other PC’s you will see are members of that group instead of randoms.
In practice, the universe is a big place so it may not make much difference and I gather most folk that are playing online are playing open play anyway.
jpinard - a closest we have to a specific qt3 group, although only has 16 members but useful for qt3 events along with Veloxi group

I tend to play in either Open or Mobius most of the time. Even in Open I’ve yet to encounter a player that was aggressive towards me, but I stay away from the core systems.
KK do you notice any additional lag while playing in Mobius’s group? I’m so anal about performance I can’t tell if I’m dreaming up a little slower performance or if it’s real. I certainly notice it in open play.

jp, no I don’t. When playing on my laptop I get a lot of stutter in some systems, generally when I’m close to planets or stations, and during hyperspace, but I think this is performance related because on my mum’s desktop despite a dodgy wifi connection it doesn’t stutter at all in either Mobius or Open. It could be that my laptop gets pushed over the edge when there’s more network traffic in a larger group, but I doubt your desktop will suffer from that. My mum’s monitor is so beautiful that I can’t go back to the laptop!
So I take it the 28 member jpinard group is not sponsored by frops?
Glad to hear her computer is working. What did they end up having to do to fix it? jpinard is sponsored by frops :) I wish they’d let us make up different group names. With Open Play I get stutter like you mentioned when I’m near space stations and when leaving hyperspace - something I don’t have in solo/group play.
Ah, I should probably post that in the other thread I made about it, but the motherboard was fried. Given the cost to fix it and the age of the components, we decided to create a hybrid from the remains and another PC with a better GPU and CPU/mobo that was in the house, not to mention a new monitor upgrade. It has a 560Ti in it, which is pretty impressive for a 3-year old GPU.
I’m confused by jpinard, you said there were 28 members, but there are definitely only 16 members in the group that I’m in. I thought you might be talking about another group with the same / similar name.
