Isn’t there some sort of federal reg about a notification period before mass layoffs?

Yes - the laid off employees will need to be retained for 60 days before they can be terminated under the WARN Act (it requires 60 day termination notice)
Ok, then. Sounds like 61 days from Friday Twitter offices will unlock.
Or, these aren’t very bright guys, and they don’t think the rules some to them.
Although the whole “Check your personal email to see if you’re laid off” makes it sound like they’re planning on disabling email access (and maybe badge access.) So would they just keep folks on payroll the 60 days and call it severance?
That was my read as well, check your personal email, because if you are gone, you are gone gone - access immediately revoked. I’d assume they’d have to pay them out 60 days as a minimum because of WARN, no?
But it’s Musk, so he’ll try to screw them all.
Yeah, if I’m reading correctly, apparently they can revoke all access and ability to work, call them “employees without responsibility” and keep them on payroll and on benefits for 60 days to satisfy WARN.
There was an article this evening on Bloomberg (paywalled, unfortunately) saying that 60 days of severance would be given, which matches the WARN requirement I guess.

Twitter also has the option of offering MORE than 2 months severance, and in return having the (immediately) terminated employee sign a document to voluntarily waive their rights under WARN.
Huh. I never received a PM. Just an automated message and straight up Qt3 jail temp ban once upon a time.
May the internet gods have mercy on the poor souls tasked with this tomorrow:
Tomorrow? You fools. Their inbox has already exploded.
If they’re smart, they haven’t activated that address yet. A big assumption, but hey.
I’m sure the next-gen A.I. responses will be appropriate and helpful.
Remember when I predicted exactly this? Looking forward to the new lawsuits over impersonation on the platform!
You were hardly the only one here predicting it.
Maybe they change it before it rolls out. But I don’t see how they implement ID checks of any rigor and still roll all this out on Monday.
Guess the cuts are beginning overnight.
And a twitter product employee responds to Casey – who is a journalist specializing in social media – thusly:

I wonder what’s going to be trending on Twitter tomorrow morning?
I have two friends who work there. Hope they survive tomorrow, though I can’t imagine most folks wanting to stick around long-term. I’m guessing Musk culled 50% because he figured he’ll get to his expressed 75% soon enough through attrition. What a bizarre and sad situation.
All those people saying we should leave Twitter?
In Musk’s America, Twitter leaves you.
