That’s not up to Steam, you can throw whatever engine you want, so it’s not really possible. That’s bad if you have a game that breaks if you look at if funny, but it’s a godsend for using multiple small mods that get constantly updated (PDS games).

After manipulating your personal data. That’s a no no, with a fine since May.

I am familiar with it. No, it doesn’t do what EGS needs.

Nonsense. Prove me wrong (good luck with that).

Interest article that came up in the comments.

“And then there’s a sloppy implementation which makes a copy of your file before prompting you whether to import your Steam friends, and that’s something we’re fixing and cleaning up. It’s just a manifestation of building all our social features quickly and not enough forethought about how we ought to be doing it.”

- Tim “Epic” Sweeney

Everyone fucks shit like this up, by itself, well, realistically, shit happens. It’s still one instance of shadiness that doesn’t deserve a defense, as they have more than enough resources to do it right and they know they’re a big hacking target.

Former Valve Developer Says Steam Was Killing PC Gaming

Wow that’s news to me!

I am so overwhelmed with new games to play, have a backlog a mile long, and can barely keep up. Steam must’ve been horrible at killing the PC gaming market.

30% is a big chunk of change though. How much should a middle man be able to earn?

It’s pretty hilarious watching supporters of Epic’s scheme show-up and claim how emotional everyone else is why they constantly, repeatedly, doggedly claim to be mind readers and are very eager themselves to shout down anyone else who says otherwise.

Absolutely, you only need to look at how much the middlemen profit year after year with (usually) decreasing infrastructure costs, which isn’t normal. I was going to say with little innovation, but that’s really hard to say without details I don’t know.
If I had a lot more time, I’d be looking a lot at itch, but I have so much good stuff already. It’s just too flooded a market with a high barrier to entry just to do the same basic things others do, let alone your unique take.

There is a special place in hell for people who use the “couldn’t care less” incorrectly by saying “could care less”, next to child molesters and people who speak in cinema.

And people who complain that they have to pay same price for games as everyone else.

I was just thinking the same thing, it’s kinda bizarre

A lot of people are just increasingly tired of Gamer Drama.

If people don’t care, can’t they just happily buy their exclusives and not click on this thread?

Celebrity Drama, Movie Drama, Disney Drama, Diet Drama, DC vs Marvel Drama, Facebook Drama. When people care about something, they speak up, and they don’t always agree.

You want to know when PC gaming starts dying, it’s when something happens and no one gives a shit. Then you can start worrying.

Lot of people are just increasingly tired of condescending I Am Better Than Others Drama.

For anyone that is ready to go all-in with Tencent, they just quietly launched their game store/client WeGame X to markets outside of China.

My questions might come out wrong (if so, I apologise), but I’m genuinely confused by your post @AntediluvianArk.

  1. What’s the above screenshot supposed to evoke?
  2. EGS only has Tencent as a partner. What’s the relevance to this thread?
  3. Who is going all-in with what? There are people here who don’t mind the EGS because it’s just another game launcher that gives the devs more proceeds; all the other launchers are still around. And those who are vehemently against it on various grounds: exclusives, privacy, features, … So what’s the going all-in about?

I’m in the middle of a short pause during my workday (brain half fried), so am likely missing something obvious.

If I wanted to go all-in with Tencent I’d just play Fortnite.
