Dang, his children are the only thing protecting @CraigM from being ignored? For what, disagreeing with your assertion about Steam?
Like or dislike Steam, Epic, or anything else, why are you so emotionally invested in this?
EDIT: And I’m sorry in advance if I’m coming across as belligerent or rude or anything like that. I’m also not intending to sound like that, I’m just honestly a little shocked by your reaction(s) here. No ill will towards you intended.

When you ignore someone, just do it and move on with your life. Don’t proclaim that you’re doing it. It should be about what you want, not insulting someone else.

The kindest possible reading of your posts is that you do not consider how they will sound to other people. You might want to adopt a pause, re-read and consider phase prior to hitting submit.

Why should you be shocked?
People can point and laugh, give history “lessons”, say just literally good lord, and I show up point out someone has to have really selective memories to believe that if Steam didn’t happen maybe Impulse, Stardock, would have just done the same thing. And wow, yeah getting that idea in someone’s head is, yeah, wow.
But somehow that’s crossing the line, somehow that’s the you don’t have kids so f off point.
That’ ridiculous. It’s a double standard.
No, for the snide remarks he has been making. Attacks on people’s character aren’t necessary, but they seem to be becoming very common on this particular thread at least from Nesrie and Grifman, and I’ve decided that life is too short to deal with it, so I’ve decided to Ignore it for a bit. It sounds cruel, but I don’t think either person really wants to communicate with me anyway, and it might be for the best. I certainly can see myself reacting in ways that are unkind and I just don’t want to be that person if I can help it.
Your own comments are a bit troubling, but I think they are justified. My comments about having kids was less than clear. I enjoy the stories people write about there kids and I can relate to it, so, again, I’m more likely to give more slack to people, even if my feelings are hurt because I wouldn’t want to miss out on that. It’s something I value. As I mentioned, parenting can be tough and I like to hear how other people deal with it and celebrate it.
Everyone, please. This thread is in danger of being locked temporarily if the derail doesn’t stop.

FWIW, I don’t think Craig attacked your character at all, unless you’re referring to posts prior to today. He attacked the validity of your statement about Steam, but not you.
You might be right. So, I guess there are a lot of good reasons not to block CraigM.
Hypothetically, what kind of derail would get this thread locked permanently? Asking for a friend.
If only there were a like button!
Oh, I bet complaining about the lack of a like button can get this thread locked!

OK, but is it still murder if a Triceratops gets an abortion?
What triceramester are we talking?

Oh just the ones where I try to defend myself.

No, the kind where you have to defend yourself from unfair comments directed your way. And there were several things over the line, as far as that goes, and I’m not sure what it is about this thread that brought out those kind of attacks. I’m genuinely confused!
We’re talking about a freaking digital store front for computer games. What brings out the nasty, not just towards you but definitely you got more than deserved, about that?
As ever in these sorts of situations, I’m reminded of my favorite bit of short fiction from SlateStarCodex.

With QT3’s lax moderation (which is a deliberate policy decision), sometimes all you can do is claim the moral victory and move on. You don’t have to defend yourself past the first exchange, instead you can simply count the damage your attacker does to their own reputation as a win. Otherwise the troll gets what they want (a contentious derail).
It’s an interesting quote, and not to derail this thread too much, but there were real reasons that people rebelled against the Romans. There were 3 separate rebellions, the first of which caused the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple.
Jews were forced to pay a Jewish Tax if they wanted to practice their religion and it was very humiliating since that money went to the upkeep of the Temple of Capitoline Jupiter.
The Romans were an occupying force that used crucifixion and other brutal methods to retain control of the region, often to the detriment to the people living there, Although the film makes a point about the good the Romans brought with them, it certainly doesn’t mean that the Romans should be considered to be ‘good guys’. The movie ends with them crucifying the main character.
Anyway, maybe the film is a better analogy than you meant it to be. Sure, steam has done a lot of good (although I contend that it was more of a happy accident than any plan on their part, and it could have just as easily been Impulse or some other contender at the end of it instead of Steam), but, like the Romans, that good comes because it’s a means to an end, not some sort of good intentions on their part.
At the end of the day, I think Steam’s 30% cut is gouging the industry and is a bad thing and although I’m not a huge fan of Epic, I do understand that the only way to make Steam change is to vote with my dollars.
I would like to see a lot of things in the industry change, but this is one I can do something about.
30% cut always seemed good because people were accustomed to the bigger retail margin. So at first it seemed great, in comparison, but it never was from an objective point. The reality is that, once you have an important volume of sales, it cost much less transferring data over internet, processing fees of credit cards and maintaining a software app.
It’s estimated Valve is the company with the highest profit per employee in USA for something.
Now that 30% is like the ratio that retail had before, and new people have to show how it’s possible to have a more competitive cut. I won’t say 12% like Epic says, but for example 20% would be possibly more adjusted and proportional.
