Early Access is a different beast from a regular game though, I would wager. I personally only see this very rarely, probably because of the cost of selling for a single company is probably expansive.

As who cares, who is to say. I wouldn’t make assumptions. I see one side pay developers more.

Why should anyone take your word on Epic’s motives? Every move they have made has been in accordance with a good faith effort to make the PC marketplace better for creators. If they were so greedy, they would not be pumping so much money into things like retroactively reducing their rev share for the Unreal marketplace.

Ok, yep. Good guys Epic! Out for the little guy against evil Steam.

They are spending a fortune to gain market share. It’s business 101.

You realize their strategy is not incompatible with an egalitarian motive, right?

I really just want to see more competition.

Sure, but I don’t believe they are acting out of the goodness of their heart any more than I would think that of any company. They are acting in their best interests against a dominant market force. They have to provide a reason for devs to put their games on Steam. This is it.

Great job arguing against a point that no one has made in over 4,000 posts in this thread.

I thought that @LeeAbe was making that point, just being sarcastic.

You haven’t been reading very closely.

Good guys, bad guys. They are a store. That’s it. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

Some people have got their back up about it and get really annoyed and defensive if anyone says it has some positive aspects.

Some people can’t see the what the fuss is about and will or will not use it on a case by case basis.

Some people can’t stop telling others how great it is for the devs and the players.

Neither extreme side is really interested in seeing a different perspective.

The scrolling wheel of this thread turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving talking points that become entrenched arguments. Entrenched arguments fade to well worn quotes, and even the well worn quotes are long forgotten when the Age that gave birth to the talking points comes again.

I’ll concede that EGS might be good for the 0.01% of games that are there. See? Compromise.

I didn’t say anything like this. I have my reservations about Epic’s market behavior and I questioned the assumed call (which has been modified by now) to do the right thing and buy from Epic. Of course you support the devs by buying a game from the EGS. Sorry if I was tendentious about it. Nevertheless I can wonder how this works and if and how things (e.g. dependency from the customers) are affected by paid exclusivity.

Another thing is that one somehow supports Epic’s strategy of monopolizing stuff by buying from them. They might not need the money right now, but they need numbers I guess. Since I don’t like Epic’s strategy it is interesting for me to know how my money works within those deals/arrangements - trying to think the different aspects together. “Buy from Epic, be a good guy” is a bit simple I think. I was trying to look at the details / think about the bigger picture. You don’t have to call this conspiracy theory.

And you don’t have to be that rude. You are close to being personal. I have my reservations about the EGS that to me is a distribution monopoly (I don’t see an Epic code for Outer Worlds on the Humble store…) that takes away my choice from whom to buy. I’m having a hard time to see the benefit of this store for the customers in the long run. Nevertheless I was just - I think honestly - questioning stuff.

Next free game: Enter the Gungeon.

Very nice , another game that I’ve had wishlisted awhile. Priced just right for me!

Bummer, that is back to back games that I already own. With that said, they are both really good games.

It shows that you have good taste I guess.

Brad’s replies were pretty poor, honestly i could not be arsed to reply to them, sometimes wasting space on replies for some is time better spent however your above post is something I too have been thinking about and I have bought stuff on epic.

It’s like for many it has to be black or white…

I’ve been using the Enter the Gungeon theme on my PS4. It just plays the Enter the Gungeon song on a loop, which is excellent.

How do the free games work? Is it like Origin’s discontinued On the House thing? I haven’t had any inclination to install the Epic Store. I don’t really intend to mostly because I can protect myself from acquiring more games. Also 3 stores (Steam, Origin, GOG) is sort of my cap.

Pretty much. You just visit the store and go through the checkout process with a final price of $0.00 and it’s in your library for good.
