Ok, thanks folks. I didn’t know it was going to be a pre-purchase, not a pre-order. That’s a good use of terms to differentiate the two. And I do feel a little stupid for doing it now. :)

Don’t. When we used to order games in retailers, you’d give places like Target, Gamestop and Best-Buy say five dollars to hold the game, refundable. They managed to figure out how to get the entire price now from something that doesn’t even require a hold because it’s digital.
It’s like @stusser said, an interest free loan.

Haha, That’s pretty funny. I suspect Gamestop wouldn’t have cared too much. They were so damn aggressive in trying to for pre-orders that people would show up at those stores trying to buy a game only to have the clerk tell them they didn’t have any and then followers the lectures about pre-ordering to be sure.
I hated that approach. Just stock the game.
Having said that, someone using a Gamestop as a bank seems… because the amounts would be so slow, but the complaints about overdrafting… maybe not talking about large amounts to begin with.

Sadly, the only friends I know who use the GameStop preused and trade-in model are working poor people with bad command of math.

FWIW iTunes store does not charge the card until it is available, not when you place the pre-order. And I agree with that policy, that means you can cancel the pre-order at any time.

So what does Tetris Effect add to make Tetris a $40 game (on sale for $32)? That seems like an awful lot for Tetris.
Another thing I really don’t like about the Epic Store: their game pages have little to no information. The more I use Epic, the more I like Steam.

It’s been my biggest complaint about the store and it hasn’t gotten any better.
What they said. Store pages on EGS regularly tell me only the most barebones “fluff” about a game while also requiring as much if not more scrolling than Steam to get to the system requirements. So if I wanted to actually know something about a random game that piqued my interest I would be better off looking on Steam, GOG or elsewhere. And at that point, unless price is a factor, why the heck am I shopping on EGS for anyway?
The webstore already has that many games on it, while still having a relatively meager selection, that randomly discovering new games I might be interested in is more annoying than Steam, which was meant to be a USP alongside the better revenue split. The whole thing needs a redesign\overhaul to be useful to me, not a good example of a good UX IMO.
It supposedly adds a lot of visual and musical flair, and has VR elements. That’s the extra cost. I’m severely tempted as well at the $32 price. It hasn’t come down to that price yet despite being out for a long time on PS4. I’m a tetris fan, and I’m also a fan of music and visual flair. What’s been keeping me away so far is I don’t have VR, so I’ll be losing out on that value add. Which is why I was waiting for a sale.
Going by their roadmap of upcoming features, the store should be more user friendly by the end of July.
Oh nice, cloud saves are also a target for July. Hopefully they’ll get those in before the release of Rebel Galaxy Outlaws.

Thanks @Rock8man. Ironically, that game is one of the few that gives info, I just failed to read it. Everything else I looked at this morning was a marketing paragraph and screenshots. So the info available must be a choice of the publisher. But then, why are they neglecting listing that info as compared to Steam’s pages?
Anyway looks beautiful, but looks like it’s made for VR. I am tempted to pay the $5 to remove adds for EA’s iOS version, but not sure I like the controls enough to do that.
There are two places I can think of right now that I would definitely not use as places to park my money:
- GameStop
- Cloud Imperium Games
that seems like a pretty great selection of free games. I’ve been really wanting to try moonlighted and I never finished Alan wake on the 360 so I wouldn’t mind trying that one out again. This war of mine is pretty good too.

Just to recap, here are the free games I’ve gotten from Epic over the last few months:
Edith Finch
Transistor
The Witness
Rime
Rebel Galaxy
Overcooked
Limbo
Kingdom: New Lands
Slime Rancher
Oxenfree
Enter the Gungeon
Last Day of June
Moonlighter
Alan Wake
Many of these I already owned, but there are few I didn’t that I’ve wanted for awhile. I didn’t need to buy anything or sign up for a membership, just had to have an account at their store. And the list above doesn’t include all the games I got during their $15 off per game summer sale. Whatever trepidation I had before, I’m pretty happy that I’ve got the Epic Store installed on my machine.
You didn’t get Subnautica? That was the best!
But yeah, same here, I’m really happy with my Epic game collection. Add Subnautica and Super Meat Boy to my list in addition to the above.
I only owned Rebel Galaxy, Limbo, Enter the Gungeon, Super Meat Boy and Alan Wake from that list.

It is a pretty great list isn’t it?
Does anyone know how much of a payout, if any, the developpers/publishers get for the giveaways?
