We should probably shut down all our Star Wars topics since there are critics in there, and two of the actresses are still not on social media…

Actual, I don’t think I’ve ever said anything about Twilight. Not a thing, accept the funny meme about Up being a better love story in the first 10 minutes.

That was comic gold. Oh, and I believe she is rolling in the money, so I hardly think the author is down on her luck.

And the same goes for Disney and Star Wars. None of them are exactly down right now, except the people that played Anakin. Those people went through hell, and I won’t say anything about them. Nobody deserves what they went through.

Anyway, I haven’t seen either the Twilight movies or the last 2 Star Wars movies, so I really cant make a critique about them, and I haven’t.

I’m sticking by what I said, you don’t kick a person when they are down. That’s just my policy.

It’s been a good policy and I think this world would be better if others followed this policy.

Oh, as for the homophobes vs people that dislike Epic, I see them both as being rather irrational. But that’s just me, not being able to fully understand what people are going through when it comes to Epic (except the people on Linux, I really feel for them, they have a just and fair anger against Epic).

Other people being utter shits isn’t going to stop me from voicing my opinion.

Oh I forgot End Game. We should probably stop talking about that one too. The actress who played Hawkeye’s daughter is being targeted, she even made a plea for herself and her family. Stranger Things is now also off limits, that actress was chased off Twitter.

Otherwise all I have to do is find someone to threaten me, and then nobody can criticize me anymore.

If it truly impacts you to point of crying, I think that’s fair.

Just make sure you have a epic break down because of it.

And that is where we disagree. I do not see a fair and reasonable critique as kicking while they are down.

Isn’t that the point of EGS exclusivity anyhow? To provide a level of financial security for those devs, so that they are (financially) secure right now.

Wait, what the hell? I hadn’t heard either of those.

Let me guess, toxic assholes attacking them for portraying strong or independent women who are just as capable as men.

Yes. What happened to the Ooblet developer happens to a lot of people, all the time. It’s just not the gaming industry specifically doing it.

Ghostbusters 3… there’s another one, Leslie Jones. No more criticism about her or that movie. Should delete that topic.

It’s to break into a long established market. Didn’t we have this discussion a while back?

Exclusives help new companies break into established markets and fight against the momentum that old established groups have.

Also, there was that steam policy that someone posted that games on steam had to have similar prices as else where, so games sold on steam are less profitable then games sold on Epic, so either developers need to take a loss on steam games and pass 0 savings to the client.

There may have been other points as well.

Again, not a movie I have every been critical over, nor seen. My policy stands.

Look, I understand from a developer side why they would take an exclusivity deal. Doesn’t mean I have to like it from the consumer side, but I really do understand it.

And it has everything to do with money. And good for them, I do not begrudge them that one bit.

I think you’re both right and it comes down to the nature of the criticism. It’s no big deal to say, “That Ooblets developer may have shown bad judgement in how he worded his statement.” Compare that to name-calling like we saw in here when he was called an ass and other similarly insulting language. That’s what raised my hackles and made me want to come to his/their defense. That felt like cruelty towards someone who was already suffering.

Yeah, it sucks that these types of attacks are so utterly predictable.

Hard to compare these mega-blockbuster properties to the two people making Ooblets.

And I will not defend attacks. I don’t know that calling someone an ass is going too far, I neither participated or observed that particular kerfuffle, so I will refrain from judging there.

But certainly I can agree that making statements with overly insulting or personal natures is going too far. But it is certainly a grey area where some level of judgement is required on a case by case basis.

There is a mountain between calling someone say stupid, or rude, or an ass, or a bad actor, or talentless and then going after them with racist, homophobic and threatening language or just threats and vile pictures.

Gaming wants to treat this as they always do, like it’s special, like it’s so unique and the culture so toxic, but the fact is, if someone says something a group doesn’t like, or they perform in a movie they don’t like, or they play music a group doesn’t like, or they say something bad about something a group likes, they’re at risk for this kind of behavior. There is every day language and swearing, and then there is this swarm that is seen in almost every industry… politics, books, employment, tech, movies… all of it.

All the time. I don’t recall the shut-down of Marvel, Star Wars, Ghostbusters discussions… any of that because those people endured essentially the same thing. And no, not all of them are like some untouchable super star.

It’s easy to continue a Star Wars discussion without allowing continued complaints about the actors of color.

Criticizing people’s actions or works brings them down. We shouldn’t criticize people who are down. Ergo, criticism is disallowed. That seems to be the gist of it? What an absurd philosophy.

Of color? the lead actress is not a woman of color.

Are we going to stop complaining about Daisy’s breathing now because she had to leave social media? How about all the complaints of Rey, and how the actress handles that character. I’ve yet to see that stop.

All the Ghostbuster girls were targeted; we are going to stop criticizing their acting because of that? It certainly didn’t happen. lots of remarks about their abilities in that movie … while they were down which also happened to be at the release of the movie.

I mean I know what you’re getting at…
