Yes, and clearly you’re still upset over it. Why not just, like, let it go?

I think in his case getting harshly called out for being rude (which wasn’t particularly fair in this thread of all threads) when it turns out his criticism was not only earned, but accurate?

I don’t get particularly mad over EGS. Annoyed? Sure. Not a fan of Epic as a company? Yeah, thats not particularly new. But mad? Nah.

But tis thread? Yeesh, yeah I largely stay out of it because I don’t find the type of dismissals so rife here worth my time to contribute.

I only read this thread because, like a train crash, I can’t look away.

If you want to be a jerk, call me whatever you’d like, but calling me a shill is insulting and inaccurate.

Yeah. I imagine all of P&R is like this. That’s why I mute P&R.

This.

But whatever fuck me I guess.

It is not like this. This probably worse than most P&R topics.

I agree with a lot that’s in this video:

I mean occasionally it’s not. But, yeah. Broadly no.

But that may be because recently there is a bit more ‘our differences are less than our agreement’ these days than years past.

Going after people because they’re employees. Going after people because you think they have more money in their wallet than you do. Checking whether or not someone’s procreated. Proclaiming calling someone a name is the most horrific thing ever while four other people walk right past that person doing the same thing. Everyone running over to the how do you ignore someone on Discourse after 50 posts of back and forth here…

oh and my favorite, showing up out of the blue and saying oh gosh, I don’t know why people get so upset about an icon. that one never gets old.

That is so rare, even on P&R.

obviously not talking about you, you.

This is still the coolest thing to happen when it comes to Epic.

I mean even though I broadly am not a fan of EGS, I do appreciate those that like it. If it works for you? Great. And I would usually be anxious to hear the views of employees. One of the great things of Qt3 is how many people with industry experience exist here. So having @Lunarstorm contribute would normally be great.

But this thread? I don’t know why this inspires such passion and vitriol. Especially on the pro EGS side. Like I can broadly get many of the reservations and why people dislike it, since I am sympathetic tp that side. But the level of passion for EGS just makes no sense to me.

I can understand liking it. I can’t understand the devotion and fanaticism, for lack of a better term, for it.

Well, maybe you think Valve has way too much power over the PC gaming industry, and have been anxious for a deep-pockets competitor to come along and challenge it-- with the end goal that a larger slice of the gaming dollar goes to developers.

Or maybe you’ve just been a giggling Tim Sweeney fanboy since you first got your hands on Unreal Editor in '99.

This thread is worse than any P & R topic I can remember.

Sure, I can get that. What I don’t get is misrepresentation or dismissal of various issues with EGS, or with what Valve has contributed for PC gamers.

I mean we have people here reporting some head scratchingly bad decisions. I mean Shiva had his e-mail login hijacked by some Russian because there is no email validation for account setup. Which is just bizarre. And he was attacked for this here? Like that was so mind bendingly absurd. Like Epic has to be perfect in all things and Valve the enemy of developers to justify their position. I just… no.

So its not the position, it is the level of passion on display.

You mean like asking a developer to break his word two days after he gave it?

You’ve missed some crackerjack P&R threads.

I do have accounts on both. But I prefer to use fully featured services over one that offers nothing useful to me. I prefer to have a pricing competition between stores as well. And some people like playing on linux. But we have been over all this many times in this thread, so I find it bizzare that you would still be so surprised. Particularly as a dev with 20 year experience making and shipping games. Is it really such surprise that people prefer useful things over useless things?

You keep saying this, but there is crucial difference between company paying for exclusivity and company not paying for exclusivity. If someone releases their game only on Steam, I know I can contact them and ask them for GOG or elsewhere release because Valve is not restricting them from doing so. I cannot do that with Epic exclusivities.

So… no new exclusives announced today?

Not yet. Isn’t there some sort of event going on though they are a part of?
