His charity ultimatum very much was out of the blue. All Sweeney did in his tweet was wish the dev success.

Well his winky, you know the one with a tongue, might imply he was making fun, and the person who asked him wasn’t very nice about it to begin with.
This seems like exciting, uncharted territory, criticizing a forum member for a post they didn’t make. :D
But, c’mon, you can’t expect me to post on your time-table instead of my own. I’ve got a life and plenty of games to play!
I’ll try to explain:
With Ooblets, you said he was an ass and it rubbed me the wrong way because I didn’t think he was being an ass but I chose not to comment. Later (I think the next day?) you said he had a screw-off attitude and that’s when I decided to say something.*
With DARQ, Dave said ass and it rubbed me the wrong way because I didn’t think he was being an ass but I chose not to comment. That’s where I was when you called me out for not calling him out. So maybe TIL I have a two strikes ass policy? Dave hadn’t reached strike two yet.
But I hope this evening you’ve seen that I’m willing to defend the honor of game developers even if you’re not the one I’m talking with.
*That something I said was an attempted analogy that referenced a good point you had made elsewhere about racism and that analogy went very wrong and I regret that. I’m still not sure if it was poorly-worded or completely misunderstood. Probably both. But when you said that I was the one bringing your biological make-up into the discussion I realized things had gone badly off track. That’s when I realized I should avoid analogies in the future because they aren’t worth the trouble. Shit that makes sense in my head all-too-often gets lost in translation. :D

It is tough. However, most of that toughness is due to the vast number of great games.
EGS will result in higher game prices if it’s successful, therefore I think it’s preferable if EGS fails. I think Valve keeps game prices down by favoring consumers over publishers more than Epic would.
Part of the reason EGS is getting support isn’t just indies trying to survive, but it’s also an attempt by publishers to take market power from Valve and consumers. It’s fundamentally anti-consumer.
For what it’s worth, I see your point!
This sarcasm is so obnoxious, Nesrie!

Yeah that was pretty clear.
It’s just, what does everyone think we’re doing when we get mad at devs for saying things that aren’t well received and go EGS exclusive. Probably the same thing you’d do with any other community, something annoys you, you come bitch about it in the community you talk about this kind of stuff with, remove it from you Steam WishList because no point in having it there, and that’s about it. You’d think we were tarring and feathering these people. I’ll just do what I do with all the other EGS games, forget about it because it’s not on my wishlist and by the time it’s released, probably not care because I’ve moved onto something else by then. There is so much freaking content out there I probably wouldn’t have to buy a game for years and still not run out of fun. Unlike a lot of game hoarders around here. I buy my games to complete, and often I do!
As for the removal of wish list, well during the sale it seemed like a big deal because it was out of sight and out of mind. They’ll get what they want with EGS, so I suspect they wouldn’t mind anyway.
Until today I assumed most would’ve defended this particular dev’s exchange because the group that was so strong for EGS seemed to imply imperfection is okay and that EGS is all about helping out the indies with quality games… and here one is. An imperfect entry to a previous exchange where they called Unfold Games into the discussion; he responded imperfectly, and took an opportunity that had no real hope of success to talk about his quality game and even sacrifice his earnings to get it on the store.
And that is not what happened. Now it’s about interpretation except it was not okay do that before.

Exactly this. I’m not sure how EGS supporters miss this…
Yeah, I am not sure how pieces go up when a new player enters the market. That seems counter intuitive.
And so far, that 10 dollar off deal made the games I purchased much cheaper then expected. And of course the free games are cool too.

Good Lord, Brad. A charity ultimatum? This?
You’ve been wildly misrepresenting what people say throughout this entire thread, but this one takes the cake.

Because Epic would have fewer sales, and because publishers would be able to get away with more sneaky stuff because they could threaten to leave.
Why would there be fewer sales? The publishers decide to participate, same as they would on Steam or any other platform.
Also, why would there be more sneaky stuff? It’s not all asshole developers don’t exist on Steam already, or have we already forgotten Paid Mods for Skyrim?
It sounds like you have decided that only shitty people sell on Epic, so they will obviously do shitty things.
Apparently the voice he hears in his head when reading that tweet sounds like a kidnapper using a voice changer. Maybe try out your internal “chatting with someone over a beer” voice instead.
I don’t mean to sound naive or Pollyanna-ish with my see the good in others instead of the bad comments… but with our 8chan president troll in chief, this has actually become a political issue for me. It feels like a matter of life and death on our screens.
…Plus I think most of us on Qt3 are sliding hard into grumpy old man territory. Remember how grumpy old men seemed to you when you were young? Do not go willingly into that shitty place! Yikes.
Otherwise stated, charity won’t get any money if you don’t reverse course. It’s gross. It’s shocking so many of you are incapable of seeing that.
How the fuck do you know? Maybe Mr Tim will just donate the money from every sale on Steam as upmanship. Maybe the dev will anyway. Maybe Gabe will. Maybe the customers will.
Either way, there’s no hostage, charities will keep filing the void the state doesn’t have the political power or will to fill and everyone will move on to serious stuff. Like how terrible the last GoT season was.
Misspells Steam in the first word.

So are all the devs on EGS similarly as gross, since they’re also not contributing their sales to charity? Are they even worse monsters, since they haven’t even offered an avenue for charities to get money?
By that logic, every promotion involving charity is “gross”

The Humble Bundle guys hold us hostage with every sale they make. If I buy a game on Steam instead, they won’t give the charity money!
