For sure, but that still leaves the rest of Steam’s spammy shit. I have never gone to buy a game on Epic and seen dozens of various assholes and bigots shitting up a games store front. If I want to see that I will go on Twitter, as god intended :) Epic has taken the Netflix/HBO path which I prefer.

Steam doesn’t give me that so they are now my second choice. “Steam last” is how I buy nowadays. Interestingly it seems thats where the bigger game publishers are ending up as well, Launch it on the premium store front (your own or Epic) first then throw it on Steam later for the discount buyer who dont mind Steams presentation/ features…

It seems to work well for everyone.

*I should note I am NOT referring to the quality or volume of games here (we need more games not less). Steams best feature is the fact they dont pretend to guess what “quality” means and refuse to censor or judge games except in extreme cases. Epic mistakenly believes they can curate for quality. They are wrong.

Neither of them have a discovery system for shit though. So I may as well go buy on the cleaner store front. It sure would be nice if someone solves the discovery problem, but if google cant crack it, maybe we just have to keep to the old fashioned way or ads, PR & word of mouth.

How is Steam’s storefront affected by various assholes and bigots? I assume you’re referring to the Steam forums, which you can completely avoid.

User reviews. I cannot avert my eyes :) If you can then that’s cool. I can’t. I am like a moth to a flame 8)

I just dont like my entertainment served up that way. I am not buying a commodity where I need to know if its safe or works properly, I am buying a work of art/entertainment. Presentation matters to me. I want to be treated well in a classy ambiance. That aint Steam for me so its my last choice if I can get it elsewhere.

If it doesn’t to others that’s totally cool. Happily we now have more and more choices of where to buy PC games.

Not sure what your beef is with the Steam community. It’s waaaaay further down on the store page and never visible when go to shop there.

It doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I think you have a fair point though.

It seems the Steam reviews on store pages for games is fairly new. I was just looking at a few. You have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to reach the reviews. They’re sorted in such a way that reviews by your friends will appear first. The next thing it’s sorted on seems to be some sort of global rating of the review. I’m going to look at some controversial games to see I can find some trash, but I suspect 99% of the reviews you find on store pages will be of semi-decent quality at worst.

Fair do’s. Yeah its a me thing for sure. I am the guy who shouts at youtube every time it shows me a video of political opinions I dont like. I cant just look away I have to click on it to get angry. :)

I just looked at the store front for two games that I thought might have some pretty vile reviews: Metro: Exodus, which was pulled from Steam as an Epic exclusive, and Gone Home, which is a walking sim featuring a gay protagonist. I didn’t find anything offensive. I know it’s out there, but you kinda have to look for it.

Yeah to my eyes I honestly think that screen looks really bad and not a high quality store front. Shrug, its cool, all opinions and taste. If it works for you that’s great.

Yeah, that’s on you then. I haven’t gone through all the extensive options in the Enhanced/Augmented Steam but I don’t think “hide reviews” is an option. You could always use uBlock Origin’s eyedropper tool and block those out but I don’t know if the rule would block it out for just one product page or the entirety of Steam.

Lol, Maybe they meant the steam community was the reason people were going to epic.

All 5 Linux and Mac gamers upset Epic owned Rocket League dropping support in March.

Steam reviews are amazing. Sure, you get some crap, but the ability to know right away what people have issues with, what the game gets right – steam is amazon for games. GOG reviews, for example, are far more nostalgia-driven, and the sheer number of people on steam means you get a better balance of viewpoints and a higher chance of a quality review appearing.

Yeah, I find the Steam reviews valuable. I mean, you have to first use a fish scoop to get the biggest turds out of the water and then apply another filter after that, but there’s good info to be had there if you take the time to dig a little instead of solely looking at the aggregate scores.

Steam discussion forums also document problems and fixes where most games no longer have forums.

It’s the first place I go when I have a problem. Guess who else goes there for in game problems, Epic users.

I am Jack’s total lack of surprise, as I said at the time of the purchase. Fuck Epic.

Epic doesn’t have enough money to support Linux. They spent it all buying exclusives and giving away free games.

And I appreciate it!

Yes, it’s hard for such a small company with so little profit offer the same support that AAA developers like Psyonix, inXile and Obsidian previously did.

As a smaller company it might have been worth it for them to broaden their appeal but the calculus done by a larger parent company seems to indicate the return on investment isn’t worth it for a smaller unprofitable niche. What’s wrong with that?
