That was their game.

And the odds of this turning out the same way, immeasurably low.

Last I heard that was only in the US. Have they updated the price in other regions?

What are these other regions you speak of?

Seems like that’s in the works.

In Australia it’s US$64.99, which is $15 more expensive than it is in the US. The prices are displayed in US dollars, not AUD in the store right now. The Gold version (including season pass) is US$99.99.

Exactly the same in NZ

In EU, which has arguably more target audience for Russian or Eastern European made games the price is identical as it was on steam before it was pulled. Who knows though, maybe Deep Silver have some internal data which shows that 90% of Metro players come from the US, but I doubt that’s the case.

Only in US, and even in US you could have bought Metro for 48 dollars from Razer, authorized seller, and get steam key to boot. But then they took it down and made it Epic exclusive.

Their free games help.

Well their free games encourage you to install EGS so you can play them, but once there the only incentive to stay currently is exclusives and bargains. We haven’t seen any bargains yet ($10 off Metro Exodus for American customers notwithstanding) so currently it’s down to exclusives. Their mercenary approach to those so far hasn’t exactly won them universal acclaim, I think you’d agree. It will be interesting to see where they are in a year’s time. How will they compete with Steam sales for example? (outside of their strategy of ensuring that Steam can’t discount them if they aren’t selling them!)

How’s is that different from any over service.

You can talk a big game all you like about steam services, but really, I only care about were I can get the best price. Nothing else matters.

In that case you should probably hope Epic store has as few exclusives as possible so they do not have zero pricing competition from other stores

Plus galyonkin mentioned on twitter he is not fan of frequent sales

I have a rough idea of what AAA games go for. Even with exclusives, we should have an idea of whether the price is more or less than what we expected.

Well yes, the expected price is 50-60 dollars/euros. With competition, that can go lower. Without it, it can’t.

This. The whole narrative that the game is cheaper is bunk. It is currently $50. It could have been purchased for $48 before. This is not cheaper. Moreover, with competition from multiple stores selling Steam keys the chance it would be significantly cheaper is much higher than if it is just an exclusive on just one store.

If legowarrior just cared about the best price he claims, he would be truly upset at having to pay more now and most likely later.

I am concerned about the best prices in the long term which means needing more competition.

Free market 101.

I also refuse to buy shit from Razor for good reasons so that sale doesn’t count. Obviously.

This position is incongruent with Epic’s current policies. How many different retailers can you currently buy keys for games hosted by the Epic client? How many can you currently buy keys for games hosted by the Steam client? How many developers has Steam locked up with exclusive contracts? How many has Epic?

Long-term this may be good for competition but not currently.
