I just picked up the Episode III game because I’m a sucker for lightsabers - anyone else played it? Seems like it’s getting mediocre reviews, but on Gamespot at least the reader score was a lot higher than their official score.
One of my Son’s friends brought it over and I grabbed a few minutes of play. It is a mediocre game but because its an EP 3 game and the world is in a Star Wars frenzy, its elevated because of that. Its the right game at the right time.
I’d be surprised if there were Star Wars movie-based games that didn’t suck.
Honestly, the only good movie based games that come to mind are Goldeneye and Riddick. There aren’t too many good movie games at all.
Blade Runner was good.
No, Bladerunner was great. One of the best adventure games of all time. It really captured the essense of the movie, it immersed you into that world, without just playing through the movie’s storyline. It deserved a lot more acclaim than it got.
Pod Racer was a decent racing game, all the other Star Wars shit aside.
Well, if we’re talking starwars games that didn’t suck, how about tie/fighter, one of the best games of all time? The dark forces/jedi knight series is somewhat uneven but overall pretty good too. They’re not all yoda’s desktop adventures, y’know.
I enjoyed Republic Commando quite a bit.
There have been plenty of awesome movie-related games, many of them based on Star Wars. The Episode III game is not one of them.
Gary, get back to us after the Dooku fight or thereabouts. :)

The fact that it had two-player co-op kinda sold me on it so I’m hoping it’s at least fun in that mode.
I went out to try to rent this today, but they didn’t have any left. I took that as a sign that fate didn’t want me to play this game.
Nooo, we’re talking about Star Wars movie-based games. That’s movie-based. Most of the 90s LEC games were good, with the exception of Episode 1 :).
But… they’re all movie-based… starwars was a movie…
I’m so confused.
The one where you start off with Obi Wan and move all through the Dooku+Droids bit?
I didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. Tough but fair. (And I was playing it with powers built up by the random folks who’d chosen random powers at EB for the characters, to boot.)
What’s wrong with this game? (Sometimes I don’t feel like I’m nearly picky enough about games to hang out on this board.)
e.g. Episode III: The Game (Follows the plot of the movie closely, very linear and is basically an interactive version of the movie) vs KOTOR (non-linear, doesn’t follow the same plot of the movies, but uses their world).
The boss battles were silly tough. At least for me they were. There are long stretches in the middle game that are nothing but boss battles. And the stupid Anakin/Obi-Wan fight is just an extended boss battle. Bleh. Particularly bleh if you’ve recently played God of War or even Prince of Persia.
What are you, one of our Gone Gold refugees? :)

Do God of War and even Prince of Persia have lightsabers?
No.
Get back to me when you can rip Count Dooku in half with your bare hands.
I rather enjoyed it. It hearkens back to the side scrollers of yore. Of course, I only got past defeating Dooku before I had to return the game to Blockbuster.
