Because Take-Two needed another nail in the coffin. Wow.
Am I the only one who thinks VC’s next game should be an NCAA game? To hell with EA and now to hell with ESPN! Give us a good college game finally!
Man, it’s been a bad winter for Sega/VC/Take-2. Talk about EA taking it to the mattresses. They oughta cut their loses now on the ESPN brand and rebrand MLB 2k5 (and even re-release the other 2k5 games) with something they own outright.
Bad winter? Uh, hasn’t GTA: San Andreas sold a gajillion copies? I’ve no idea how healthy Take 2 is overall, but I’d imagine that things can’t be too bad if they’re publishing and developing the biggest-selling franchise in modern gaming history.
Ok… edit that down to Sega and VC.
Mutant Leauge Football on the NFL 2k5 engine.
Just don’t call it Mutant leauge that’s an EA game. We played the hockey ML more than any other sports game in my college years. Played as good as '94 but hell, you could pay off the ref, or blow up that annoying 99 rating goalie.
Does anyone really and truly think that this is a good idea that would also be profitable?
I mean, honestly…how many of the football gamers out there (not just the internet trolling variety, mind you) purchase Madden because, well, it’s Madden - not because they have any desire to play something new and different, but because it’s basically at its core the same game they know and love, but just slightly tweaked enough to have some freshness.
Do you, or does anyone else, think that this type of gamer would be willing to buy a non-NFL non-Madden football game? Or…at least that enough of them would to make this a viable idea?

I think it’s a good idea, yeah. A new MLF game just might fill the gap left by NFL Blitz (before someone says it, no, this is not currently being filled by NFL Street).
Sure it is, they are almost the same game with a bit different view point. The basic difference is you can’t stomp on people after they fall to the ground. :)
I would love it if Sega made a college game with online stuff. That would be incredible. I never picked up the EA NCAA football just because I knew it was based on Madden and never really cared for Madden.
So… EA is serious about football. Quite a bit.

Nah. I liked having a full team, a real NFL team, in Blitz. NFL Street is just… dumb. I liked having uniforms and commentators and stuff.
MLF wouldn’t give me that “oh I’m playing the Eagles” thing back, but at least it would let me play a full team in a stadium with a time limit again. Plus, it can make up for some of the lost charm with added weapons.
I’m willing to bet Sega didn’t lose much on the deal. they weren’t making that much anyway, and I’m sure it was arranged so VC took the biggest hit.
MxO, on the other hand, may hurt them a great deal.
Is it back???
Competition can only be a good thing here, but 2K’s handling of the NBA games in recent years doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.
Apparently it won’t compete with Madden.
Some kind of action games based on NFL, not a simulation like the old NFL 2K games.
Sweet. I really want a more arcadey NFL game, like Blitz or 90s Madden.
